2.0 out of 5 stars boring, derivative, self-indulgent, 19 April 2006
This review is from: Down in Albion (Audio CD)
what a waste of a talent. there are a couple of ok songs, but overall this is a sophomoric attempt at creative sounds - muddled, unoriginal, at times pathetic, and worse of all, flat out boring! borrow it and burn the good songs, otherwise save your money for something better....

this is fun, good, deep fried, dirty, honest music; great lyrics, superb sounds, old style. its music to dance, laugh and love life to.

5.0 out of 5 stars what beautiful soulful, quiet, acoustic music, 6 Mar 2006
This review is from: Chinatown (Audio CD)
this is a collection of gorgeously sung songs. simple compositions, sparse, spot-on instrumentation, the mandolin, the steel drum, the guitar, and that sexy husky low voice accompanied by a hushed chorus. its a cd for lovers of the slow song, the craft of music, the blues tinged with country and bluegrass. gorgeous and soulful. give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars gorgeous and interesting, 25 Sep 2005
This review is from: Let It Die (Audio CD)
i love her voice. i heard it in an add and then searched to find the singer behind it. she does remind me of pj, but i find her a more tender, more soulful and less angry version of pj harvey. she isnt afraid of letting her music reach aesthic beauty, and she isnt afraid of simplicity, which i find in itself incredibly atractive and beautiful. i like every single song in the album, which is rare these days. each has its own personality, and a story, and i found myself caring, and wondering about some of the abstract characters in the songs: "secret heart, what are you made of, what are you afraid of, whats wrong, little man on the secret heart" .... :-). together, the collection brings together a cool mix of groovy folk, 70s dance, african, blues, gospel, rock, country, french classic sounds. the other thing i love about this record is that it isnt over produced. its her rich voice accompanyied by a series of gorgeous, quiet instrumental pieces which in the end create a delicious atmosphere and emotional connection. try it.

4.0 out of 5 stars it may not be her perfect yet, but its still very good, 12 Sep 2005
This review is from: Supernature (Audio CD)
i agree with some of the other reviewers who in essence think she has more to give, and i think black cherry was unique in its near perfection. all that being said, this is still an elegantly excellent dance cd. it'll remind you of the best of 70s and 80s electric sounds, updated with modern neuroticism and interesting varied sound references like prince and, i swear i can hear it, paul simon... dont worry, it is extremely cool and wont embarass you in front of knowledgeable company. it also jigs and moves with deep bass lines. 5.0 out of 5 stars my no 1 album of all time, 21 July 2005
This review is from: Grace (Audio CD)
im 36, and have grown up with music since i was a pee wee little person. i love music, all types of music, so long as it has honesty, taste, aesthetic beauty, curiosity. i own thousands and lps and cds, and of all of them, this is the cd that i most absolutely love. love. every song, every sound, every second of it is a gift to the soul and ears. im biased. jeff buckley is my musical hero of my generation. his life is melancholic and romantically tragic. his personna gifted with more charisma than any other artist i have seen. but its all real, not hype. his voice is beyond gifted, it is lifted by his passion and courage to stretch it beyond reasonable lenghts. and when he rocks, he rocks! it is simply awesome. Marco

5.0 out of 5 stars very groovey, very trance-y, great sounds allaround, 21 July 2005
This review is from: Like Weather (Audio CD)
beautiful music. very atmospheric and moody in parts. very dark sometimes, but always beautiful and with a groovey undertone of trip-hop and hints of soul... great, interesting and captivating mixture of sounds and lyrics, just as you'd expect from someone who works with bjork. give it a try with a glass of red wine and a minxy friend. enjoy, M

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love music, try this, 24 Jun 2005
This review is from: Chavez Ravine (Audio CD)
I am biased, I think Ry is the modern genious of music. everything he does, he does with passion, love, and superb knowledge and humility. he learns, he contributes, and then he shares the result. i recommend all his music, but this one is special. it is exciting, it is curious and playful. it is musically gorgeous, and it has soul. a wonderful soul filled with life. it is a lush feast for those who love music. enjoy it, and pass the word on, with love.
