Anarchy, State and Utopia
by Robert Nozick
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book that kept Rawls up at night., 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The greatest book on Political Philosophy of all time.
Really I should say more about it but unfortuantely I am
too busy writing a dissertation on this book instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using semantics to talk about syntax that underpins semantics - clever!, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of my favourite philosophical treatise.
A priori statments about how the world is. Literally that is all that is contained within this book. Everything else is nonsense.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Logic Positivists Bible, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Philosophers know that the thesis presented here is as dead as a dinosaur but this book should not just be read out of historical interest, the remnants that can be salvaged provide the groundwork for our modern philosophical framework.

Things of interest: Analyticity, Ignosticism, Descriptivism, Verificationism and a pro-scientific/anti-metaphysical outlook.

I think the weakest part of the book above anything else is on Ethics so go and read Kant afterwords to make up for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Call me a Saganite, 30 Oct. 2014
I think this has to be one my favourite books of all time! The humanist and scientific message on these pages is incredibly powerful.
Carl Sagan was a superb thinker and communicate. I could not recommend you reading this book enough.

Down side: Very sticky glue-sticker on the back...GRRRR.

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoyed at Amazon but engaged by the "narrative", 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was very disappointed to find that my copy of this book was only half printed.
I should have complained but I didn't. I should have sent it back but I didn't.
This was the first time and thankfully the only time that Amazon's service has been extremely poor.

The book iteslf is full of interesting ideas, dangerous nonsense ideas but on the whole the text that I could read was stimulating. 3.5/5 stars.

Christmas Turd Great Xmas Present
Christmas Turd Great Xmas Present
Offered by LaughOutLoud24/7
Price: £4.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Merry Christmas: Have a TURD!, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My brother wasn't very impressed with his turd present but that was the point! haha.
A nice joke gift but if there is one flaw with the product it is that the top is rather delicate
(it tears off easy with enough playing around with it).

Introducing Marxism: A Graphic Guide
Introducing Marxism: A Graphic Guide
by Rupert Woodfin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A good synthesis, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am not a Marxist but I am a philosophy student so this does give me a bit of
license to say that this is a masterful little introduction to this stream of thought.
It is surprising what can learn from these guides it really is.

Offered by Special Interests
Price: £7.95

5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem in the cosmos of crud, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very thought provoking series which includes anything from the wacky
to the mainstream theories within (for the most part) Physics.
This is all packaged in an entertaining way, you get to hear from real
experts and of course Morgan Freeman who narrates the series. What isn't there to like?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wittgensteinian Wisdom, 30 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A philosophical earthquake at richter scale 10!
The book is sharp and the contents are sharper.
A summary of some of the contents:
- A refutation against referentialism.
- Meaning as 'Use'.
- Language games.
- Rules.
- A refutation against Private Language.
- Theories on Psychology.
You can't go wrong even if you do prefer the Tractatus.
