I came across this great punk book on kindle and was amazed at its attention to detail and how magic it was to be a disrespectful teenager in the 1970s. Punk ushered in the death of poxy super groups and boredom! The book captures the energy , intensity and near revolutionary aspect of young people in small towns throughout Scotland looking for change...and a laugh! Cleary misunderstood by hippies, bikers, 'rock fan's (!!) and the legions of the Orange Order, the book surges /purges through the establishment and authority figures from parents to the police, until it hits the monolith of the psychiatric unit in Auchtermuchty, a bastion of social control as much as any Soviet gulag.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, it's brought back great memories of how raw and shocking punk was seen at the time and how punks were forever pushing all sorts of boundaries in music, fashion, art, politics, and to make you THINK. If you don't enjoy this book you must have a beard and long hair!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Boredom., 1 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great book that inspired the alienated youth of France in the 1960s and revisted 10 years later by Punk rock. Classic descriptions of the fight against boredom, loneliness amd alienation through "situations" and questioning authoritys role in keeping us passified with useless junk, brain numbing TV (even in the 50s!), stupid personality cults, and downright lies! I could go on but as reelvant today as it was when it was written. Time for it to be reprinted and circulated widely!

WOMEN IN THE SPANISH REVOLUTION
WOMEN IN THE SPANISH REVOLUTION

5.0 out of 5 stars Women Incendiaries., 1 July 2013

This highlights the problems and reactions of various mens (and womens) respondces were to the social revolution in Spain in the 1930s. It can be depressing as well as exciting to read about how women were treated then, and the actual joy of women freed from their position as second class citizens and liberated from what can truly be described as insufferable bondage, only for it to be crushed by the butchery of Franco's state and church. Recommended reading.

Anarchist International Action Against Francoism from Genoa 1949 to the First of May Group (Anarchist Sources)
by Antonio Tellez Sola
Edition: Pamphlet

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only Spain., 1 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A short work on the often unreported fight against dictatorship in Spain in the 20th Century, and how resitance to Francoism was taken to an International level with some success by the First of May Group. Worthy of a read to remember that the fight against Franco did not end in the 1930s.

5.0 out of 5 stars To the barricades!, 1 July 2013

A great little introduction on the anti-authoritarian aspects of the social revolution in Spain on the 1930s. It protrays betrayals by statist elements in sabotaging progressive social and economic collectives and actions both from an individual and group perspective. I recommend the "Uncontrollables" chapter and the extensive "further reading chapter". Very enlightening, and you can see why George Orwell, when he returned from Spain wished he had joined the Anarchists in the fight for social revolution. Ironically, most of those "demands " are now freely available to the people of Spain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too right!, 23 Jan. 2013
What a breath of fresh air in this age of rampant nationalism and religious bigotry. A clear and succinct view of what nation states do to each other as the poor as their fodder.

My 3 year old daughter loves this toy and is constantly playing with it along with Jessie they are the best of mates. It is made of durable materials and easily cleaned...it still looks new even after constant playing! My only gripe as a an adult is the pernickity stand that comes with it and the balancing act to try and get it right - then again my daughter doesn't give two hoots about that!

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm alright Jack., 22 Mar. 2011
If you like Bernard Manning you'll love this book. If you like the welfare state you'll hate this book. Read the last chapter, once finished don't give it to Oxfam or any other charity...just bin it! (i gave it 2 stars rather than one, because of the Iraqnophobia joke)
