3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad plot but a very disappointing bluray!, 23 Sep 2009
I think my favourite of this series is still the first one. There are numerous references to the original in this latest movie and I quite liked the plot and the fact that the original characters were back. Anyway, as far the the storyline goes it was a relaxing 'low brow' way to spend an evening.

However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the Bluray itself. The picture isn't bad but the main problem is the soundtrack. Sure it's bass heavy which is to be expected but often it sounds like you are listening to it with a blanket over your head, at some points the voices are drowned out by the soundtrack, at other points it's as though the speech volume was turned down too low and you almost miss what was said. There is nothing like the clarity and surround separation you get with a top notch BD like Angels and Demons for example.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 15 Sep 2009
Watched this on Bluray yesterday evening and it was utterly superb. Picture and sound quality (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1) is top notch, a really enjoyable and gripping movie as well, highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 9 Feb 2009
This review is from: Taken [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
A common genre of movie, son/daughter gets kidnapped and father goes on a rampage trying to save them. In this case, Liam Neeson brings a new grating dimension to the role, the best I have seen. This movie really does deserve Bluray, the picture quality is superb and the sound, DTS HD MA, really does put you at the centre of the action. Lots of low frequency effects, more than I imagined, and the (many) gunshots really do get the subwoofer working. Quality movie!

4.0 out of 5 stars Happily low brow!, 3 Feb 2009
As mentioned by others, turn your brain off, sit back and relax! The race scenes are the best parts along with the thumping bass soundtrack. Overall the DTS HA-MA sound is superb and well balanced for both the speech and action sequences and the picture quality is excellent too. Recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Blurays!, 30 Jan 2009
Without a doubt, this is one of the best Blurays I have watched, the picture quality is very impressive and so detailed and the sound is comprehensive and surrounds you, definitely a disc to showcase what Bluray is capable of! Excellent film too and Norton as usual puts in a great performance!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor!, 16 Jan 2009
To be honest, I never really got into this book and I have read a number of Iraq/Afghanistan books recently. The narrative just doesn't draw me in, there is very little in the way of actual sniping accounts, lots of anti-Bush rhetoric etc., etc., pretty boring really, but luckily the book is short!

You cannot compare this to Dan Mills' 'Sniper One' which keeps the reader enthusiastically engaged from start to finish!

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, 16 Jan 2009
I enjoyed the original version but much prefer this one. On Bluray the quality is superb, the picture is crisp and detailed with an excellent DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless soundtrack. The club scenes in particular get the subwoofer working and you feel right there with them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Concert, not the best Bluray, 9 Jan 2009
This is superb concert that I can enjoy watching from start to finish or just dip in and out to my favourite parts.

I have owned the DVD version of this for a couple of years now and many of my friends have bought it too. I managed to borrow the Bluray version to compare it to the DVD and frankly it isn't worth it the upgrade if you already have the DVD. A good upscaling DVD player will give you a similar picture and the only real benefit with this title on Bluray is DTS HD Master Audio, which isn't noticeably better than the standard DTS soundtrack on the DVD.

If you don't own the DVD, get the Bluray but if you are considering the upgrade, I personally wouldn't bother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 9 Jan 2009
The series needs little introduction....

I used to own 'The Curse Of The Black Pearl' on DVD and eventually decided to buy the Bluray box set. The picture quality is clear, sharp and detailed, a huge improvement over the DVD, as is the sound. The audio is either English 5.1 uncompressed PCM or a lossy DD 5.1. I have tried both and prefer the PCM since it is a bit richer.
