5.0 out of 5 stars Best Head album ever?, 3 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a fantastic album! I am deeply rooted in old school Motorhead - Golden Years EP was the first metal record I owned - so its taken me a few years to get my head around anything past Orgasmatron. Catching up has been fun but this album just tops it all. There will be better reviews on Amazon and they will no doubt go for track by track critiques but I will just say this - this is now my favourite Motorhead album ever so buy it.

As hard as they try any band will struggle to top their defining album - for me that will always be Blackbird - but this is a fine album in its own right. Heavier than the previous three and in a different class to the last (and more commercial sounding) AB3. There certainly seems to be some demons released on this album and its better for it.

My title says it all - heavy as hell in places but technical and spectacular in others. This album is as daring as the last was safe. Mike Mangini is on excellent form and the rest of the band sound reinvigorated. Each track is an absolute killer and the production is huge.

This is what its all about - big riffs and a great vocal. If you ever wondered why musicians from every genre of Rock/Metal site Sabbath as an influence then check out this album. It's big, it's loud and its unrelenting. Iommi's soloing is just fantastic.

Difficult To Cure
Difficult To Cure
Price: £6.45

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly filler and no killer, 9 May 2013
This review is from: Difficult To Cure (Audio CD)
I will keep it short and sweet - loved the two singles released from this album - 'I Surrender' and 'Cant Happen Here' - past that its all misguided ball-baggery. Nothing will ever top Rainbows first three albums (IMHO) but Blackmore and co just about got the right balance of rock/commercial on 'Down to Earth' - helped of course by the excellent vocals of Graham Bonnet. This on the other hand is a step to far down the commercial route - what was good for Bon Jovi wasn't necessarily good for anyone else but God bless 'em most bands had a go and the result was disastrous.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just horrible, 22 Feb 2013
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to be new to Saxon through their classic album stage - Wheels of Steel to Denim and Leather. The steady decline through albums like Power and the Glory and Crusader finally bottomed out with this awfully produced, almost AOL nonsense. For me Saxon are the standard by which all Metal bands are judged. I like Big, relentless riffs and a great story telling vocal. This album has none of those classic Saxon trademarks.

5.0 out of 5 stars What no Frampton?, 1 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You know - despite what many will tell you, it wasn't the end of the world when Frampton left Humble Pie. Whilst Rockin' the Filmore will alawys be their definitive live album this is just as good. It's heavier and more in your face. More over it contains more original material. Plus, Of the two Marriott always got my vote over Frampton. Vocally he is on top form on this album. You must buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Born again- again - It's a miracle!, 1 Oct 2012

I loved this album when it first came out - having said that I had the advantage of not being a massive Sabbath fan (Ozzy or Dio line up) so I listened to it pretty much as a stand alone album. The remastered version is really good although a remixed version would be better. Having said that, I thought it was refreshingly roughly mixed when it first came out. Mid 80s production was starting to become far too slick and it wasnt long before the likes of Def Leppard were moving British metal production the way of American AOR bands. Although an odd combination, I loved Iommi's riffs with Gillan's vocals. All I really want from a metal song is a big riff and a great vocal so I was never going to be one to complain about this under-rated efffort. In fact I learnt a valuable lesson back in the day - ignore the critics and check it out for yourself. If nothing else give the awesome title track out on Spotify and then buy the album.

Oh my God! What a fantastic album. No bubblegum rock, no squeaky, hamster on helium vocals and fantastic production. I wouldn't touch a Vine Neil album with anyone's barge pole but this is absolute class from start to finish. Mick Mars is on great form and the standard of lyrics are raised so much higher than the nonsense that Sixx passes off for thoughtful poetry. Shame the music buying/gig going public couldn't see this at the time.

Everything that was good about NWOBHM and good about the hair metal scene rolled into one fantastic band and an excellent album. Deep it isn't but heavy it certainly is.
