This Book Will Change Your Life Again!: 365 More Daily Instructions for Hysterical Living
by Benrik
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will keep you laughing the whole year round., 10 July 2014
I love this book. It's full of quirky humour and each day's 'suggestions' make you look at life in a far more lighthearted way. Where do these people get their ideas from?

This book is just the funniest ever. It takes you through your life, with 'milestones' pointed out in the funniest way possible. One highlight was: 'Age 95: Escape from your retirement home. a) tunnel escape. Dig at night using whatever sharp implement is available, eg a teaspoon or a letter opener. Get rid of the earth from the tunnel by dispersing it in the camp's vegetable patch. NB: only attempt Plan A if you live on the ground floor.' From the ridiculous to the absurd to the plainly hilarious, this book's dead-pan humour is just splendid. I have bought several copies for friends and they've all (of various ages) loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, my goodness!, 31 Mar 2014

You'd think that an account of the Crusade written by a totally biased young priest would be boring. Not at all. He manages to avoid the concept that it's actually rather brutal to set Christian onto Christian, promising their fighters the same heavenly benefits to stay in France and kill Christians as to travel to the Holy Land and kill Saracens. Holy War?
Because of his bias, we see every brutality performed by the Crusaders as totally justified and described glowingly. On the other hand he has no problems describing the atrocities performed by the Cathars and their supporters, who of course are totally wrong in his eyes. The book goes into minute detail chronicling every small incident, which added incredible insight to my knowledge of the campaign. On the other hand his account of major incidents is revealing. The massacre at Beziers covers four pages of the book; he dismisses the actual atrocity with 'Astonishingly they captured the city inside an hour. What more? They entered it immediately, killed almost all the inhabitants from the youngest to the oldest and set fire to the city.' He describes the inhabitants as 'shameless dogs'.
The book is scholarly, with a length introduction, copious footnotes and appendices. The print size is small but the wealth of detail more than compensates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely to see and hear the great man, 31 Mar 2014

This was very enjoyable - not 'dry as dust' with many fascinating insights into the importance of myth. Camera-work was quite varied with some interesting shots and inclusion of other material. But best of all was to actually hear Campbell speak.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and readable, 31 Mar 2014

I enjoyed reading this book as I'm researching the period as I'm writing a novel based on it. I felt it lacked the detail of many other books - I found out a lot about him that this book didn't cover. The analysis is quite general but it makes an excellent introduction to a particularly stormy period in English history with as much excitement and intrigue (possibly more!) than the rather overcooked Tudor period.

I'm researching the period as I'm writing a novel about it and I found this to be the best book ever. It's quite fascinating, clearly written and detailed - I think many other non-fiction writers have taken information from his book. It's a bit detailed for the general reader but if you're interested in the period I'd recommend it

I've had this now for almost 5 months and have no hesitation is recommending it. Since using it my headaches have stopped; it provides a clear, bright light which doesn't strain the eyes. I have taken care not to keep switching it on and off - I can see that would cause problems as it would be cooling and heating too fast. It's adjustable so I have it at exactly the right angle for working at my computer for hours on end. Wouldn't be without it!

This review is from: From Time To Time [DVD] (DVD)
This is a lovely 'feel-good' film with Maggie Smith at her best, showing much more complexity than in Downton Abbey. She's moving without being sentimental. Excellent family viewing, though at times the pace is slow.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, 31 Mar 2014

It's a personal response and I just didn't enjoy it one bit. It has dated badly and I found the characters either ridiculous or boring. Her role does Judi Dench no favours; she seemed stilted with nothing to 'get her teeth into'. I watched the first two episodes then took it to the charity shop.

This case is very strong and easy to use and hold. I'd have liked a front to it as then the protection would have been total, hence the four stars.
