4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good, 6 Dec. 2013
Tells you everything you already know, but still worth reading. Your library probably has a copy. It was better than the BMA careers day. The kind of book you should read on day 1 as an FY1

MCEM Part A Practice Questions (Oxbridge Medica's Revision Series)
MCEM Part A Practice Questions (Oxbridge Medica's Revision Series)
by Dr Peter Hulme
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, better books available, 4 Dec. 2013
A good effort. Not as good as Beardsell et al. for explanations but much much better than Chitnis et al. The book offers 10 top tips to pass the MCEM but one of them is to get an online account at oxbridgemedica.com and another is to go 'a revision course' - these are also run by oxbridgemedica.

Explanations can be a bit short. It would be improved with some practice papers at the end containing a mix of questions.

Worth getting from your library if they have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 7 Nov. 2013
Very good, clear questions and well explained answers. Certainly the best MCEM A question book. Please bring out a second or online edition with more questions!

LAMY AL-star Fine Nib Fountain Pen - Ruby

5.0 out of 5 stars Great pen, 7 Nov. 2013
Writes really nicely. Get a refillable cartridge and you're away. I think it writes really nicely with an extra fine nib but you can pick these up for a few quid online

This review is from: Between Two Windows (Paperback)
Very interesting poetry and well written. A true up and coming star in the poetry world. This book has won high acclaim and it clearly deserves it. (Afonks.)

Doctors to be
Doctors to be
by Susan Spindler
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 7 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Doctors to be (Hardcover)
Fantastic insight into how it used to be - and proof that in some ways at least things are MUCH better now. There is a sense of quality to how it is written (esp compared to programmes in the 21st C e.g. "junior doctors, your life in their hands" etc

Clinical Anatomy: Applied Anatomy for Students and Junior Doctors
Clinical Anatomy: Applied Anatomy for Students and Junior Doctors

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for MCEM A, 7 Nov. 2013
This is a great anatomy book with some fantastic drawings. The text is concise and at times Ellis' sense of humour shines through. It could do with a few more diagrams and avoiding statements like "the nerve runs above and before backwards" but really these details are minor. Another book (e.g. Drake et al.) still comes in handy for details but this really is a fantastic book.
There is a new edition out now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be a lot better, 7 Nov. 2013
The authors have set off on the correct path (book written to curriculum) but it is clearly a first edition. There are numerous mistakes (as detailed elsewhere). The text is difficult to sit down and read - it has a use in checking your knowledge after learning it out of a different book. The diagrams are good but really need to be in at least two colours for clarity (not B&W) and there needs to be lots lots more of them. There is plenty of scope for summary tables etc also missing from this book.
It would be even better if a short section of T/F questions followed each chapter - then it'd be a great resource. I hope they bring out a 2nd edition, and that is is extensively revised!

Practice Papers for MCEM Part A
Practice Papers for MCEM Part A
by Jaydeep Chitnis

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, 7 Nov. 2013
This is a book which smacks of something prepared with minimal editing. The questions are ambiguous, overly complicated and confusing (e.g. use of double negatives). The answers are brief and the explanations incomplete. The questions are not divided up into subjects so it is necessary to do multiple papers. Don't bother with this, get a different book.
