The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - a must read, 14 Dec. 2015

If you want to know why the world is politically and economically in such a mess then read this book. She is a brilliant writer, the research is amazing and thorough. I found it fascinating, horrifying and everything I had suspected about the rise of unfettered corporatism all dressed up as somehow good for us but ignoring what people actually want and need and that people live in societies and communities - we are not just consumers. It is hard hitting but ultimately an empowering and hopeful book. It is the history of the last fifty years and how we got to where we are now, there is hope for the future, systems are already changing and change they must as the world cannot sustain this global consumerist model any longer, we have to change for the sake of the planet now.

This is a great book, I hope they make a TV programme as it would be fascinating. Tony Juniper has done a lot of worldwide research and shows how nature underpins everything, without it humans will not survive. When will humans realise that we are just another species on this planet who is part of a greater whole.

Fat Chance: The bitter truth about sugar
Fat Chance: The bitter truth about sugar
by Dr. Robert Lustig
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to know about what sugar does to your body red this!, 31 Jan. 2014

This is a very interesting book and well worth reading. Quite technical in places but does explain how the body deals with sugar and other food types. Quite an eye opener and made me give up both sugar and sweetners, and start excersizing more all for my health, and I feel better for it am slowly losing weight.

The sugar industry is as bad as the tobacco lobby was/is. This has to change otherwse the implications for an obesity epedemic worldwide is terrible with all the associated health care costs and toll on human life.
