5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure chest of information. A 'must have' on the Esoteric / Ancient Wisdom bookshelf., 20 Oct. 2015
Thank you so much Gary for writing The Inner Journey: Pathways to the Higher Self; the book has obviously been a labour of love. For those who haven't had chance to read it yet, it contains a wealth of information for those of us attempting conscious cooperation with the evolutionary plan. I like the short, concise yet easily readable chapters which give enough information while at the same time signposting the reader to deeper investigation if they so wish. It has to be a 'must have' on the Esoteric / Ancient Wisdom bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Product, 7 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was a long time looking at selfie sticks for my two grand children and chose these because the button is on the handle which I thought was better than having a separate remote and having both hands full which is more likely to cause camera shake. Pairing was totally effortless, phone was held secure and the stick itself seems quite robust. Brilliant product.

I'd not done any sewing for a long time and never put in an invisible zip so was rather apprehensive, not sure whether I was being brave or foolhardy I attached it to the dress fabric without practicing, perfect first time! Very reasonably priced, free postage and it arrived fast complete with instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars These strategies could save your sanity. Definitely worth a read., 7 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
When I first saw this book and decided to download it, I have to admit I was very sceptical because I thought that dealing with major life change couldn't be as easy as using four simple strategies but I was wrong. I think what these strategies help us to do is practice a level of detachment while at the same time becoming an active participant in the change process. This helps to keep us out of going into victim mode and then into the pit of wallowing, self pity and self destructive behaviour. The author doesn't claim that problems will be solved, what she does do, in the words of the inspirational quote is give us a tool kit that helps us to `accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short, Simple and Doable., 4 Jun. 2012

This review is from: I Can Cope (Kindle Edition)
This is a book with four simple strategies to get someone through major life changing circumstances. It's a very short book, only 36 pages and on first opening you start to think `how's 36 pages going to get me through this'? The writer obviously knows that when someone is in emotional pain attention span is very short; she gets straight to the point so you don't get enough time to sink back into the blackness. These strategies are very doable and they are intended to become part of your everyday consciousness. She sells herself short when she says they are to get you through major life changing circumstances. They can be used every day to keep you motivated and moving on and that's how I intend to use them.I Can Cope

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable resource, 14 Sept. 2002
This is a mammoth book, one to be dipped into on an 'as-needs' basis rather than read from start to finish. If you are looking for in-depth information on any particular subject this isn't the book to buy but if you want an easy to use resource that covers the basics and the most salient points across this interesting and large field of study it's well worth buying.
I am a student nurse and have found it invaluable for completing documentation and assignments. It's very easy to read and well laid out, the chapters are sub-divided; key words in the text are highlighted and information is supported with diagrams, colour, tables and bulleted lists making it comfortably accessible to different learning styles.
It is well referenced - making tracking down the seminal and/or other relevant texts fairly simple, has an extensive bibliography, a good index and a glossary to add meaning to terminology. At the end of each chapter there are self-assessment questions and practice essay questions for those who want to test out their own understanding. The book is supported by a website but the resources there are primarily for teachers/lecturers rather than students, although still worth a visit; each chapter though also has a list of websites where further information can be found, although some of these don't seem to exist anymore.
This book may seem expensive to students on limited income and because of this I dithered for quite some time before I bought it but it's now become the most used and useful book on my shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd had access to this 10 years ago., 28 Sept. 2000

This book is about the crisis and personal chaos that can result from personal transformation or spiritual emergence. In the east this is called kundalini, in the west it's usually called ascension or transformation and is frequently associated with transpersonal experiences and what we perceive as strange physical, emotional, mental and psychic symptoms. For anyone who has been through, is going through, or is trying to support someone else while this process is taking place this book is like a gift from heaven, a light shining on a dark path.
There are contributions from many eminent people with expertise in associated fields. Ranging from: psychologists; Assagioli and Laing to the great spiritual teacher Ram Dass. There are sections covering kundalini, psychic opening, UFO encounters and much, much more. There are no wasted words either, no padding, it gets straight down to the nitty-gritty.
There is a section on help for people in spiritual emergency and while this is mainly aimed at the professional therapist it makes useful reading. The type of help that might be needed in such an emergency is as vast as the variety of experience because much depends on cultural background, religious or spiritual affiliations, ones personal path of approach and what triggered it in the place; for most people there is a trigger. These can range from meditational and religious practices to emotional trauma and near death experiences and because of this, this book should be on the "required reading" list of all health care professionals and spiritual counsellors of all denominations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for anyone interested in personal growth., 17 Sept. 2000
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the companion volume to Gods in Everyman, both are a mine of readable and understandable information for anyone wanting to follow the behest of the Delphic Oracle and "Know Thyself". I would go so far as to say that one volume isn't complete without the other because both the feminine and masculine archetypes are found in all of us.
Through these books and with the use of the stories of the mythical Greek gods and goddesses Jean Shinoda Bolen helps us to identify the many facets of personality and the stages of growth we all go through. She gives guidelines to help us offset the more negative traits of the personality aspects she explores, she warns us of the ruts we may get stuck into and what might precipitate a mid-life crisis. She also gives us an insight into the ups and downs of the parental and romantic relationships each predominant god and goddess type might have. She doesn't confine "romantic" to hetrosexual relationships either.
Both volumes are a "must have" on the bookshelves of anyone interested in personal growth and/or seeking to understand the driving forces in men and women.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration, Encouragement, Validation - its all here., 17 Sept. 2000
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of the main themes of Jean Shinoda Bolen's work is her distinction between masculine and feminine spirituality. She maintains that the former is felt in the mind, the latter in the body. In "Crossing to Avalon" she takes us with her on a journey around the energy power points of Europe to find the source of that sacred feminine and to experience it first hand.
It is on this pilgrimage that she moves out her usual role of guide and analyst and becomes the seeker and the guided; and in doing so she reveals to us Jean Shinoda Bolen the woman. She graphically explains the internal and external processes taking place, providing throughout an historical and mythological background, which serves to set both the scene and the task.
This is a highly personal account but that adds to its readability and usefulness rather than detracts from it. Unlike many other books on finding personal meaning Jean Shinoda Bolen demonstrates to us that although the journey to find the Grail can be easily documented the actual travelling and arrival at the search departure point is as painful and enlightening for those who have gone before as it is for those who follow.
