The underlying concept of a secret time travelling bona fida history department was unfortunately scuppered by the need to concentrate most of the time on sex and relationships and dinosaurs. Thus I was severely disappointed. As the author is an historian I was hoping for some decent historical adventures. But no , it was reduced to the lowest common denominators.

I am sorry to say that this offering by Dan Brown is nothing more than a very repetitive tour guide of Florence. In fact I think most of the text probably came directly from brodhures describing the art history of said city.

4.0 out of 5 stars Moon Over Soho: PC Grant Book 1 (Rivers of London 2), 29 July 2012

If you believe London is crammed full of old and new magic, then you will love to follow PC Grant as he learns how to deal with the delicate politics of these magicians, some good, some bad, but all with extraordinarily large egos and all as old as time. A new recruit to the extremely small division of the police force, he continues his education, becomes braver and seems happier to accept that the probable reason for the deaths of Jazz musicians in the clubs of Soho has to be linked to something spuriously magical.
David Aaronovitch describes beautifully how London actually works! Whether you believe it or not depends on your humour and imagination.
I would recommend, if this appeals, then you really must read Rivers of London first.
