3.0 out of 5 stars A very pro-pharmaceutical book on a psycho-physiological subject, 15 July 2011
This book has some excellent information on the female sexual function and so-called "dysfunction". It looks at different aspects of sexual problems and offers some advice on how to deal with them.

However, through-out the book the authors seem to dismiss many forms of treatment for sexual issues with women and repeatedly imply or state that hormone treatment is the answer for many of the sexual issues which women may face. It appears so weighted with advice recommending hormone treatment or giving cases where psychotherapy hasn't worked and pills have, including mention of specific pharmaceuticals that I believe the work is somewhat unbalanced and biased in favour of pharmacological solutions.

In my experience as a sexual health educator and practitioner, sexual issues are the result of a combination physiological and psychological issues and, in many cases, of purely psychological issues - the body after all is controlled by the mind! I do not believe the book reflects a suitably balanced account of this situation which leads me to question its validity as indendent research on the subject...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to tantric work, 6 May 2009
I'm new to tantra and found this book a really helpful intro to this amazing powerful world. I've since done workshops with Leora and found that she can create a safe, sacred space for the work and I have grown enormously as a result of doing the work with her. I thoroughly recommend the book and her work with Diamond Light Tantra

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing work from an awesome visionary, 16 Jan. 2008
For me this book confirms Tim Leary's status as one of the greatest thinkers of the late 20th century. His visionary understanding of the nature of human consciousness and of the processes of evolution are revolutionary and astonishing. As with a lot of his work it curious combination of psychological terminology and tripped out hippy alternativism don't make this an easy read, but it's well worth persisting. For me his Eight Circuit Model of Consciousness is audacious and enlightened, although he introduces it here, he does not categorise it in ways that I have read elsewhere.
A challenging but utterly fascinating read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great British gem - much under-rated, 18 Sept. 2007
Come on guys - don't knock this film so much. Yes, its dated, poor sound quality, a bit overlong but also totally eccentric and in many ways a classic. This film has philosophy, social satire, great humour, musical numbers, burlesque strip-tease, romantic interest and a distinctly dark side.

There's some great acting, especially by Peter O'Toole who beautifully plays the eccentric 14th Earl of Gurney who, upon his father's bizarrely fetishistic death, inherits the title. The only problem is he's barking mad, having spent the last 8 years in volunatary confinement in a loony bin. He releases himself from the institution to reclaim his inheritance.

Unfortunately he is convinced he is Jesus Christ and due to his erratic behaviour, his family plot to marry him off, bear a son and then have him re-committed.

The plot turns from comedy to very VERY black humour half way through as O'Toole becomes convinced of an alternative persona within him. Murder and mayhem ensue and the film loses its overt comic vein.

This film reminded me of the classicly unhinged "Sir Henry at Rawlinson End" - not many films include landed gentry in tutu skirts!

This is not a perfect film but it is a much overlooked product of its time and a gem in many ways.

Watch, laugh, cringe, enjoy!

Lord Vishnu's Love Handles: A Spy Novel (Sort Of)
by Will Clarke
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Surreal thriller, 13 Mar. 2007
What a refreshingly novel novel! Nicely written with a huge surrealist flavour. Similar in vein to Tom Robbins "Another Roadside Attraction" this book is the most fun I've read in a long time. Left me laughing, thinknig, bemused and generally wierded out! Love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent advice for men, 24 Oct. 2006
Deida is a great writer on masculine issues. This book covers a range of practical and spiritual topics about what it means to be a man, expecially in relation to your woman.

Short chapters, good sound practical advice and easily accessible language make this a great "Guide to Being a Better Bloke". Some of the language is a bit California psych for my taste, but don't let that put you off.....read and learn!
