4.0 out of 5 stars with some great turns of phrase, 29 July 2015

This review is from: The Disclaimer (Kindle Edition)
Faith has written a witty book, with some great turns of phrase. The characters are larger than life and it is a fun look at village life. However I felt the end part belonged to a different book as it moves away from comedy to something much darker and nastier.

Ploddy writing style although I appreciate this is a translation. Some of the plotting is clever, but in other parts it is poor eg suddenly bringing in the protatonists sixteen-year-old daughter who happens to swing by his house having developed an interest in religeon and who is able to instantly interpret a series of numbers she sees written on a piece of paper, a code which he has been puzzling over for ages. I can't say I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge is the first step to beating panic attacks, 8 Aug. 2012
Having been a sufferer of panic attacks myself I know how important it is for other suffers to know that they are not the only ones this is happening to. The next step is to learn how to control and then beat these attacks; and this is where I found Beat Panic by Martha Langley so useful. As well as explaining the reasons for attacks, and the symptons, it then takes the reader through a series of self-help remedies. The book may be small, but the information and advice packed into it should help everyone beat this crippling problem.

The Secrets to Writing Great Comedy (Teach Yourself)
The Secrets to Writing Great Comedy (Teach Yourself)

4.0 out of 5 stars Secrets no more, 28 Jan. 2012
The secrets to writing great comedy are secrets no more - Lesley Bown has revealed them. I have known and co-written with Lesley for many years, so can I be objective about her solo work? Yes I can. In fact friends can often be the sharpest critics.

Using easily accessible advice, tips and exercises, Lesley takes the would-be comic writer through the various stages needed to produce a honed piece of work, whether it's a stand-up routine or a sitcom. Based on her own experiences she deconstructs comedy to show the reader the nuts and bolts of writing funny prose.

Can reading a book turn you into a world-famous comic writer? No, only you can do that. But you can make a very good start by taking on board all the information laid out for you in this highly readable book. And I know it is readable because I have read it right through and that is why I can recommend it.

Free Yourself From Anxiety: A self-help guide to overcoming anxiety disorders

4.0 out of 5 stars A road map to recovery, 12 Jan. 2009
I wish I had had a book like this when I had my first panic attacks. No one understood what I was going through, and no one, including the medical services, was able to explain what was happening and how it could be dealt with.

What everyone in this situation needs, and needs fast, are three things:
1. Reassurance that you are not the only one this has ever happened to
2. A concise explanation of the various forms of Anxiety and their symptoms; and
3. Help and advice which will set you on the road to recovery.

And this is what Free Yourself from Anxiety does. Using genuine case studies it shows that what you thought was affecting you alone is in fact quite common. It clearly and concisely explains the various forms of Anxiety such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic attacks, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) so that you can properly identify the problem. And finally it gives a properly structured road map to recovery by taking the reader, step by step, from facing their fears to overcoming them.

Written in an understanding and encouraging way, this book is the next best thing to having a twenty-four hour therapist at your side. If you have an anxiety problem, or you know someone who has, buying this book could be a life saver.
