1.0 out of 5 stars stopped working after less than a year, 9 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
the quality of sound is ok, but they did not last long. the price is too high for something that stopped functioning in just several months

3.0 out of 5 stars well researched, but badly written, 24 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hunting Evil (Paperback)
it is well researched, but not very well. the book takes super-long detours, is also often unfocused. great subject, great research but the book is undistilled. though if you get through the first 150 pages or so - it gets better.

2.0 out of 5 stars not much new, 24 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you followed the news, and read the New Yorker's feature on how OBL was killed you won't find out much new in the book. It is not bad, but does not dig very deep.

4.0 out of 5 stars good laptop, 11 Feb. 2012
I had a sony vaio 15 inch laptop for home use, and an asus eee pc 1201 net book for travel. so i decided instead of having 2 laptops, to have just one that is light enough for travel, but with a screen wide enough to work comfortably with long word files. ACER s3 was the choice.

have had it for 1 month. screen is good. light and easy to use. I am quite pleased. BUT - the battery is nowhere near 6 hours. for normal use - internet browsing and word - it is more like 4 hours. also the keyboard is a bit uncomfortable - I make a lots of typos. either still have to get used more or it is not fully comfortable...

another minus is the fact that USB plugs are in the back of the laptop. whenever you need anything you need to close the screen and then turn the laptop to plug a usb key or anything you need. quite uncomfortable.

this being said - i would still buy S3 for these money. but hope future version would have USB elsewhere, better battery and better keyboard.

3.0 out of 5 stars cool to use, but changed 3 kindles in a year due to frozen screen, 11 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
great machine in many respects but... had to change 3 kindle in a year due to the frozen screen problem. all changes went smoothly with Amazon but there is probably some structural fault in their design...

Sony eBook Reader Touch Edition (Black) PRS-600
Sony eBook Reader Touch Edition (Black) PRS-600

2.0 out of 5 stars constant problems, 11 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought a SONY PRS-600 as a present for my wife. (whereas I have a Kindle. so we can compare.) Sony - has constant problems. every couple of months it just freezes and cannot be recharged from either PC or directly from a plug. usually 30-60 min of fiddling online trying to update software works, but not always. seems like a pretty capricious machine. (Kindle also has a better screen and is much more comfortable to use. In all fairness though I had to change 3 kindles in a year (through warranty) becuase of their frozen screen problem. so not ideal either).

Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War
Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting but read other books on Lebanon, or at least wikipedia to get a fuller picture, 4 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Interesting and very, very - too - detailed account. it is the kind of book when you can say that the author did not have enough time to write in a concise manner, ie cared more about his own writing comfort than about the reader. some paragraphs (or remarks) are repeated verbatim more than once.

Fisk kind of blames everyone - the israelis, maronites, palestinians, syrians for this or that. but the real bias is in the time and space he spends describing this or that atrocity. usually, what the israelis or the phalangists did - is described in literally dozens of pages with lots of personal stories and vivid descriptions that make the reader feel the tragedy of what happened; the atrocities of the rest (PLO, syrians, shia) are usualy mentioned en passant, with less detailed, fewer or no personal angle stories attached to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 2 Mar. 2011

it is an excellent book. the prose might not be as tidy and sharp as that of a professional journalist - but it should not be anyway like that. the book is a great read becuase of its substance. i have some experience working for a prime minister of a different country (though much shorter than powell's) and this book was like reading whatever book i would have produced if I had the time, but much, much better. a great read about power, government etc
