5.0 out of 5 stars FORGET THE REST - BUY THIS!, 27 Feb. 2015

I have owned this Andrew James machine for a couple of weeks now and I must say I'm very, very impressed. Despite its low price, the build quality is high; it has a good solid feel about it and, for me, scores highly against the competition. For the money, I'd say it's extremely good value. It's a no-nonsense functional machine with straightforward controls, though the user manual could have been more informative. The machine arrives packed in two cardboard boxes (one inside the other) with foam protection.

Filling with water is simple - there's an easy to open flip-top lid at the back. There's a warming space at the top for cups, but for speed I usually flush the machine through with hot water into a cup to heat everything before making the coffee. There's a drip tray at the bottom which slides out easily to clean. The handle scoop is very robust and locks into place firmly. It has 3 removable inserts for 1 and 2 cup measures plus a third for capsules (I think).

As with most of these machines, it takes a while to perfect your technique but I'm already very happy with the quality of the coffee it produces. Finally, it doesn't take up too much space on the worktop and its satin stainless steel finish looks great. A quality machine for a brilliant price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Russell Hobbs - sack the designers!, 28 Sept. 2014
How can a company like Russell Hobbs fail to design a spout properly? Boiling water goes everywhere when you're trying to pour into a cup. Reading some of the other reviews here makes depressing reading - truly a shocking indictment of a once great British company...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 11 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
By the end of Chapter One, the number of technical errors I spotted led me to the conclusion I was wasting my time with this book (example page 4: the built-in microphone is labelled as a speaker in the photo!). This is not really a field guide at all, rather it seems like a collection of the author's personal opinions and a showcase for her own work. The technical details have not been properly checked and the book is way too bulky for use 'in the field'. Maybe the author should stick to what she does best - taking photographs! Book returned for refund and instead I bought David Busch's Compact Field Guide for the Canon EOS 60D, which is excellent.
