2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of a franchise, 19 Feb 2013

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After following the game from its earliest announcement i waited with baited breath for its release ,like many others even got excited by the E3 demo footage thinking man its got to be awesome.
So after waiting 6 years it was finally release day and after installing and starting it up the epic dissapointment set in within seconds of starting.
The talked about next gen graphics are a total fabrication the game looks almost exactly like a old xbox game with muddy textures,no anti aliasing of any sort and mass screen tearing at anything higher than its native 720p.

The story telling is mediocre ,laughable at best ,being announced as "the canon" continuation of the franchises you would expect some sembelence of a plot but it just plods along like a Uwe Boll film ,with no characterization for anyone in the game, characters acting out of context with their own actions for example a "marine" you rescue suddenly decides after having a pain in his chest to just blow himself up taking the docking tube and you with him with no prior knowledge that a chestburster is happening.

The bragged about intelligent AI and hand drawn animations are also no shows with the menace of the aliens reduced to bullet sponges that just charge at you endlessly,or get stuck on door transitions, stuck on objects
with almost every animation in the game skipping animation transitions randomly, teleporting npcs or just plain standing in the way of tight corridors leaving you no way through.

The only saving grace of the entire fiasco is multiplayer which while fun in small doses suffers from most the same problems as single player notibly broken animation buggy hit box registration and lag making it inconsistant some times you can kill in 1 hit and others you can wail on them for ever with no noticable damage. On the downside the games was only 2 days old when the first hacked lobbies turned up with the pc version being a ghost town for multiplayer at times.
