5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent variation on the Sussed brand., 4 Sep 2014
Another excellent variation on the Sussed brand.

I have played (and reviewed) a couple of the previous Sussed games - and have used them as part of team building exercises (to great amusement from the team).

This one is a bit more personal in its questions - being called "Vices and Virtues" is a bit of a clue!

So, I will probably not play this with the team, and have instead tried it out on a family gathering.. to great hilarity!

4.0 out of 5 stars A salad a day - to brighten up your lunchbox., 3 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A salad a day - to brighten up your lunchbox.

My wife saw this reviewed in the Sunday paper - so we thought we would have a look.
There is indeed a salad for every day of the year - and a simple salad building method:
- bottom layer of leaves etc
- then the various vegetables, fruit or whatever you fancy
- a variety of protein options (fish, meat etc)
- and finally all sorts of toppings - herbs, dressings

Not sure I will manage a salad every day... but some great ideas to liven up that bit of lettuce left in the fridge

4.0 out of 5 stars A different view of cooking - for those of us who think the world revolves around potatoes!, 3 Sep 2014

A different view of cooking - for those of us who think the world revolves around potatoes!

I am not looking for a diet book, but though this would give me a new view of cooking.
It doesn't feature radically new ideas - just some reasonably tasting looking carb-free alternatives.

Not sure I will be using this very often - but there is (pun...) some food for thought!

Eat Istanbul: A Journey to the Heart of Turkish Cuisine

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good introduction to Turkish cuisine, 2 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Very good introduction to Turkish cuisine.
I am not very familiar with Turkish food (apart from a few trips to a Cambridge Turkish restaurant in the 1970s) - so this was a great eye-opener.
As with many cook books these days, the emphasis is not solely on the food and the recipes - but also on the culture from which the food comes (see the TOTALLY amazing book on Spanish food by Claudia Roden: the Food of Spain).

So what do we get? Fabulous location photos, mouth-watering food - and some interesting (to me) new recipes - and some new (and hopefully not obscure) ingredients.

A pleasure to read, and an introduction to a new set of tastes and experiences

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound from a very small little speaker - easily carried in the pocket (or handbag if so inclined), 2 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Wow! This just works!

Using the iPhone with a load of music - a quick set up and this tiny (not tinny) speaker links up through the "magic" of bluetooth.
The volume is controlled from the phone (whose sound is turned off).

We sat in the garden with the XMini on the patio - and listened to an excellent sound - broad range and LOUD!

Unbelievable quality from such a very small system... when I think back to ny 4 foot tall KET Celestions back in the 1970s...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rotary razor, 26 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Great shaver - replacing and old Philips which gave great service but has eventually worn out.

No messy gels or potions required - just a quick (2 minutes or so) race around the face and a pretty good clean shave.
On "special" occasions I will still use a proper razor to get that very smooth feel - but for day to day use - and to save time (and blood stains) in the morning, I find these Philips razors excellent.

I have previously had the Braun razor (just a single bar head) and that was never as good as these ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quirky cookbook, 26 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Lovely and quirky cook book.
I don't know this chef (not one of the "celebrities") and was pleased to find an interesting and different (now there's a thought!) cook book - with a range of tasty looking dishes.

There are lots of photos to give you an idea of what the dish "should" turn out like... there is always hope!

The book is divided up in to logical sections - from Eggs to Meat and Seafood to Desserts.
The recipes are an eclectic mixture - starting with simple recipes such as "Proper Custard", and "Perfect Boiled Eggs". It then goes on to the serious stuff - "Malaysian Prawn Laksa" or "Haloumi Sausage Rolls".

Lots of new ideas (and some revisited old favourites) with clear layout, unfussy pages, and those gorgeous photos!

Melissa & Doug Ladybird Tent

5.0 out of 5 stars Great play tent - lots of fun for a toddler, 26 Aug 2014
This review is from: Melissa & Doug Ladybird Tent (Toy)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Just what the young man wanted!
A tough tent, that is put up in seconds and is a jolly red colour.
It has a front door and a back window - and will be the scene for a plethora of games.

At present Benjamin is playing "peek-a-boo" through the window and doing his famous chortle.

The material seems tough enough (so far) to cope with an energetic toddler - and he hasn't managed to wreck any parts of it yet!

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever device that seems to work well, 23 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Smart piece of technology - seems to work well in terms on generating the right result.

Useful blue light indicator to show when your arm is at the right angle to make a correct measurement

Neat interface to your computer (once you have downloaded the software) - with useful graphs.

The only slight grumble is that there is not very much documentation (although dozens of different languages!)

Tomorrow and Tomorrow
Tomorrow and Tomorrow
by Thomas Sweterlitsch

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea for a futuristic novel, 22 Aug 2014
This review is from: Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
What happens when intrusive adverts intrude on your every waking moment... and all your actions are recorded.
A terrorist nuclear bomb has destroyed Pittsburgh, and the surviving relatives use "the Archive" to revisit their pre-bomb world.
The Archive is the online record of everyone's recorded videos, with software to extend and expand the records to give a 3D virtual world that you can walk around.
Someone is deleting parts of the Archive - and our hero (one of the traumatised surviving relatives) is tasked to find out why.

I really enjoyed the book, the idea is well thought through and well written.
