I have looked for a penguin brooch all year and this one was ideal and a well received Xmas gift. Good quality and looked better 'in the flesh'.

Wonderfully evocative films of a time now gone. The video of the Tyne Bridge was enthralling, the music is best left on mute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning!, 23 Dec. 2012

This review is from: Mission (Audio CD)
I have enjoyed the music made by Cecilia Bartoli for several years, but this raises the bar to a new level. An example is the transition from track 16 to 17; I laughed out loud with excitement as if I was a child again when I first heard it. The use of percussion is dramatic.
Her control on the quieter track is immense. Steffani is a real discovery.

Hardanger fiddle tracks are awe inspiring, reminding me of time I sepnt in the Hurrungane. A real talent, and an interesting mix of folk and classical violin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strauss & Britten, 23 Oct. 2011
Nice playing with good dynamics evident. Enjoyed both the Strauss, and the Britten was nicely done, but I prefer the Tuckwell/ Pears version on Decca 436 395-2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice performance, 3 Jan. 2011
This is a good presentation of a little played suite. I recently played it in an amateur orchestra and was surprised at the the variety of styles Tchaikovsky used. The speed is a little faster than I expected in some movements, but it does move forward well. There are some memorable tunes and sections in this suite. This is part of a collection of the orchestral suites, and I am tempted to buy them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerising performance, 8 Aug. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
From start to finish, this is a performance of consummate and joyful exuberance, given to us by a group of musicians who obviously enjoy both the composer and playing together. Particular mention for the brass players; as an amateur horn player myself I can only sit back and admire the skills displayed. The trumpet playing was exceptional. No viola jokes here, they deserve special mention too.
Technically, the sound and picture are presented superbly in PCM 5.1 or 2.0 and 1080p respectively
