5.0 out of 5 stars Hot new Scandanavian crime fiction, 14 Mar. 2012
This review is from: Lucifer's Tears (Kindle Edition)
The story is told entirely in the first person by the hero, a detective who lives in Helsinki. He is in charge of the investigation into the sadistic beating and killing of the wife of a Russian businessman. But he is also involved called in to deal with other deaths, and gets involved in the extradition of a Finnish war hero. He juggles work with family life - his wife is expecting their first child. The story is very well told, providing a lot of insight into Finnish identity and psyche. Some aspects are rather clichéd - the troubled childhood, disturbed family life and guilt about previous cases. But altogether it's a great read and compares well with other Scandanavian crime fiction. I'm looking forward to more by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 5 Aug. 2011
Written with credibility and sensitivity. It's nice to see a story about what happens to a victim after a crime. Would make a good film or TV series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 12 Mar. 2011
I was disappointed with this book. It is rather brief and doesn't go into a lot of detail. There aren't many places and many people. The topic is very disturbing though, that there are parts of Afghanistan that used to be hostile to the Taliban but are now falling under their influence. I think this would work better as a magazine article with some good photos.
