Toshiba 22DV500B 22-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV and DVD Player Combi with Freeview - Black
Toshiba 22DV500B 22-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV and DVD Player Combi with Freeview - Black

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV, good picture, unresponsive controls, 7 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pretty good TV, decent enough picture, sound quality average (tinny, but acceptable in smaller spaces)

My issue is with the responsiveness of the unit: it's so slow - never sure whether the remote is working or not. Also, you have to unplug it every now and again else the DVD unit crashes (won't recognise disks or goto any menus)

Overall, it'll do for the price, but leaves you underwhelmed overall

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent battery pack, 10 Aug. 2011
I bought this to keep all the gadgets charged whilst on the move, and have been very pleased with the product. The pack takes about three hours to charge using a mains charger, or about double this via a PC's USB charger. The mains charger isn't supplied, though it's a pretty common USB charger, so chances are you already have one from another devices (or can pick one up for less than £2). For me, I can use either my Kindle charger, my TomTom charger, or my Samsung phone charger - so actually I'd rather not receive *yet another* charger to store.

Anyhow, down to the device. I've used it on numerous trips to Europe and it's been a lifesaver. Fully charged it'll fully replenish my smartphone twice and ipod 160gb classic once. Two charging outlets means that it is possible to charge both items at once which is a great feature. Mine is used every couple of weeks, and so far I've had no issues with it discharging between charge and use.
Several users commented on the quality of the connectors. Personally, I've had no trouble with them - with due care they seem as sturdy as any OEM charging adapters. Good selection of them too - most phones and USB devices are covered. Several other users commented that the power switch is easily activated in bag: I am in agreement (and have done this several times myself). However, this just turns on three LED's so doesn't really consume much of the battery.

In summary I highly recommend this charger for anyone who is travelling frequently and needs the security of knowing that recharging of phones etc can be done at any time, without needing to find a power outlet when in some unfamiliar place (and subsequently leaving your expensive gadgets unattended and at risk of theft).

3.0 out of 5 stars Compact drive - stupid cable, 18 July 2011
This is a compact little drive which performs reasonably well, is quite quiet, and is largely pleasing to the eye.

However the main design flaw is the USB connector - it is useless. Slightest movement and it falls out, disconnecting the drive from the computer. It's a pretty fundamental issue if you're trying to use this anywhere other than a desk (and even then it's easy to knock the drive and disconnect it).

What happened to Freecom? Used to be great kit but lately have been really disappointed in their products.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Tree Maker (2005) Versio, 27 Feb. 2011
Had this software for a number of years now - overall a pretty good program.

Pro's:
- simple interface (no instructions required)
- cheap (think I paid about £6 for it, with a month's free Ancestry membership)
- easy to enter all your details and logical navigation
- simple file format (easy to copy and backup a single file)
- works with 2000, xp, vista and 7 (tried with all and hasn't ever crashed)
- supports many file formats

Con's
- reporting is basic
- you're not allowed to have your database on a usb stick (why?!)

Overall a pretty good, simple to use program which whilst lacking advanced features just works nicely for getting your family tree into the computer and printing the lot out again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as previous models!, 11 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This has been my brand of choice for a number of years based on primarily on their robustness and effectiveness (i.e. speed). They've lived on my keyring, subjected to daily battering and extensive usage, and although I always lose the caps they keep on going. For these reasons, I bought the 16GB 34548 Databar.

As other reviewers have noted, the revised design for this model moves away from the matt black into something a little more shiny and plasticy, but it's not too bad. The cap isn't uni-directional, and unlike the previous generations often falls off. The keyring hole is still robust, and I've no immediate concerns regarding the toughness of the device.

However, the Databar has some more serious niggles:
1) Unlike the previous generations, there is no LED to indicate whether the device is active (OK not essential, but a useful addition)
2) Speed: Oh so so so so so slow! I just tested (using Crystal Disk Mark) my old 8GB Databar (19.47 mb/s read, 11.07 mb/s write) and compared to this 34548 (10.29mb/s read, 4.419mb/s write) it is much slower.
3) Price: I don't think the premium on this device (compared to cheaper offerings found on this site) is worthwhile given the above gripes.

To summarise: whilst the device is a capable store for ~16GB of data, compared to the predecessors I am left disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 25 July 2008
Had this a year now - absolutely fantastic. Great sound quality, excellent wireless connection - great controls and a fantastic interface. Hard to believe how good this actually is.

Mine came without the firmware upgrade, so had to knock off the WPA on the router, do an upgrade then turn it back on. Not exactly rocket science, but can see why this would be a problem for those unfamiliar.

Seriously, this is a great piece of kit and worth every penny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Quality - Avoid!, 1 Dec. 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This watch looks great, but the build quality is terrible. Within a month the pin in the strap broke - couldn't get a new pin locally so had to return it. Quick turnaround, but the next pin lasted only a few hours before breaking again. Returned a third time, received a new pin but the watch itself gave up two weeks later. Absolute rubbish, very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 20 July 2007
This review is from: The Turning (Paperback)
I'm not usually a fan of fiction, but I picked this up and found it impossible to put down. An excellent plot, well constructed and brilliantly executed in a great book. Highly recommended.
