It seems to have been reviewed in the spirit of the bear riding the bike. By the usual standards of cycling not very impress, but for a bear an achievement. I this not patronising?

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so much bad as nasty, 17 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Blu-ray)
This was part of my exploration of the output of Wes Andersons. The previous film was awful so you would expect he would learn, but learn he did not. The animation has a steely glossiness that in itself is off putting, the models for the style are obvious but it is done with a cynical lack of sympathy. The characters are totally unlikeable, at least I persevered to the end but feel I should have been paid for it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obnoxious movie, 17 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Royal Tenenbaums (DVD)
I sort of enjoyed watching Grand Budapest so thought i would check up on his other films, a mistake. The filming is derivative, anything approaching a good idea has been stolen from a non american film that presumably Anderson has seen at a film festival. The characters are obnoxious American brats, rather similar to the equally obnoxious bunch in The Darjeeling Limited.
Rarely for me I couldn't be bothered to get to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars although some of the translations are not of the best. The commentary by Jan Bazant is perfection, 17 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The texts are wisely chosen, although some of the translations are not of the best. The commentary by Jan Bazant is perfection, cutting through the uncritical assumptions usual in Czech as well as outside views of the history of this fascinating if sometimes infuriating country.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice to hear Elliot as a tempter and a good ..., 17 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Murder in the Cathedral (Blu-ray)
Nice to hear Elliot as a tempter and a good performance by Father John Groser as Becket. Otherwise a depressing experience. Làszló Lajtha wasn't that much of a composer and the lazy use of his music, randomly cutting across the action with no respect of tension or context is a text book illustration of how not to do it. The camera work is wooden even given that this is from the stage production. The posh voices even for 1951 would have been out of place. So two for its historical interest

2.0 out of 5 stars Verbal diarrhoea covering an important book, 19 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a tedious, appallingly written and muddled book. Marnia Robinson comes over as self obsessed and with a city sized ego. Will is her other half who injects some well considered science into the mix. All this has been put together with the consistency of diarrhoea. if only a decent editor had been at hand.
However attack it with a marker pen and rearrange the chapters and an important if much shorter book emerges. This should have 1 star if judged for its authors ability as a writer but 5 stars for the content lost amongst the dross.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five rules for an overwhelming film, 18 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hard to Be a God - Subtitled (DVD)
Rule one: Watch it on the biggest screen you can get, much happens in tiny details.
Rule two: If it has to be your house then lock the doors and concentrate hard with no interruptions.
Rule three: Find a good synopsis of the book not the film.
Rule four: Avoid the majority of the official critics before watching, they seem to have been to busy writing their review to actually concentrate on the film
Rule five: Watch it again

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Rameau, 29 Jan. 2015
William Christie and Sophie Daneman have made a programme out of two separate Rameu scores. The idea works perfectly, giving a satisfying whole out of two otherwise short and difficult to programme pieces. In the scores Rameau wrote for, more or less, private performances he made his most personal utterances. The production is exquisite to look and a very clever mix of modern and 18th century dance movement.
I found this totally enthralling

Welcome To North Korea! - Vitejte v KLDR! DVD documentary
Offered by Mr.Molotov
Price: £7.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Sideways look at North Korea, 28 Jan. 2015
This does not seem to be general known, but is an excellent view of North Korea by a group of Czech Tourists, who unusually, are able to film outside the capital. Perhaps because some of them have memories about how to live in a controlled state they are more relaxed with some of the rules. Good subtitles. Some of the subtleties of there reactions will probably be lost on those without intimate knowledge of Czech moirés.

2.0 out of 5 stars top Vodka for those with bottom knowledge., 21 Oct. 2014
Whilst this is a carefully made product, You are basically being conned. Potato only make a neutral alcohol and is the constituent part of many low grade liquors. The only way to "improve" it is to add flavourings, however the manufacturer dresses this up, this is not how you make good vodka. They have convinced you to pay over the top for crisps now they try alcohol.
I think most people who have reviewed this have not tried good traditional Vodka, hard to find in UK as it is. but there are well made Polish factory Vodkas from rye or wheat that are available.
