For a CD produced by Linn records this is a lush recording. The backing is provided by the Robert Farnon orchestra that on some tracks hark back to an almost Hollywood style and sometimes you wonder when the staircase with the chandeliers on each side as in old musical movies is going to appear between the speakers.
In spite of the above statement elements of jazz and a fresh clean approach to each track still shine through and raise this album above those that just copy styles from the past. We must not forget Carol Kidd's pure artistry that seems to unbelievably improve above the excellent from previous albums. Perhaps the one weak track on the disk is "I've got you under my skin" that is not jazz or any other label you could give it, just a bit damp.
If a little more jazz and less of the lush orchestra is more your style then you could look at Dreamsville
that is a 2008 recording. All the above recordings will play with HDCD if you have it.
