5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Emotional Drama, 23 Jan 2011
This review is from: Aftershock [DVD] (DVD)
Aftershock isn't so much a big disaster movie but its about dealing with the fallout of what happens after to a family of four whom after the mum is placed in an absolutely awful situation is made to split her family apart. What follows is a heart wrenching tale of how a family that's been spread apart can never really move on from that fateful Earthquake and how broken all the characters are and it takes place over a thirty year period. Beautifully acted, well written and although there's some confusing scenes in places, its a lavishly produced film that had me glued to the screen the entire time. Epic.

Level Up!: The Guide to Great Video Game Design

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Riot of a Read, 23 Dec 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
While I'm sure many of us would love to be games designers, we will never get the chance - but they say everyone has at least one good idea! This book takes you right the way through the design process of your game idea from its very concept to actually putting it all together. Thankfully the book is really insightful so even though most of us will never grace the design room, after reading this you'll feel like you know a whole lot more about the birth of a game. It's entertaining, name drops games in for references and those references come from thin air. It's really as much a gaming enthusiasts book and I've found this book so much more enjoyable than the mediocre 1001 video games to play before you die.

Want into games design? Grab this.
Want an enjoyable narration about how something is created? Grab this too!

3.0 out of 5 stars More like bit a random answer..., 13 Dec 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Truth or Lies (PS3) (Video Game)
There are two problems with Truth or Lies.

The first is the most fundamental and that's the lie detection software doesn't really seem to work. Quite how it can score you on how truthful your answers are I have no idea but with a lot of the questions you can only really give direct answers and so you can only tell the truth or lie. The problem is when we played this we were all actually telling the truth and sometimes it'd say you'd lied anyway. It seems to go by voice inflections and pitch.

That's all very well and the faulty software is actually quite good for a few laughs but sadly the questions are all a bit tame. Quite clearly aimed at the teenage "have you had a crush on anyone in the room" type questions. They're too tame for adults (despite having an adult question section) and teens will probably play it a few times just so they can be told their lying to then have some good gossip.

Also the first retail game I've seen that has no platnum trophy as a side note!

4.0 out of 5 stars Low Res..., 24 Nov 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
In essence Buzz is still great but with this latest version it feels like two steps forward and two back again.

Firstly, the Move games which are played seperate from the main games are good fun although they are over quite quick so you have to really go some. It turns the move controller into magnets etc so you grab the right answer or you pick up the wrong answers and thrown them in the trash grinder leaving the right one remaining. Using the EyeToy to take you picture and adding a customer sound is also a great feature. The single player mode is a little more beefy but still a bit underdeveloped and myBuzz still churns out plenty of quizzes.

The downers are that the graphics have taken a turn for the worse. I assume its so that Move can run because its really noticeable that the studio is now a bit jagged and the new (erk) slim Buzz isn't graphically refined. Bring back big Buzz, he could be a smarty pants but get away with it because he looked cute. Now he's all slick and its not as nice. The new round this time round is the timewarp round which takes snippets from songs and either starts them slowy and then winds them up, or starts really fast and winds them down. This would be a great round had original tracks really been used as sometimes the "as made famous by" versions are a bit different! Also, the questions are massively harder this time round! I was in a 7 player game the other night and the winner won by getting to about 3000 points and that's the highest score I've seen so far!

If its not broke, don't fix it. Some of these tweeks are steps back and that's a shame. Quiz World is still the best Buzz game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and gentle on sensitive skin too, 27 Oct 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have particularly sensitive skin and so try to shave as little as possible because I end up looking like a beetroot afterwards and so I try to leave stubble behind as it helps a bit. This i-stubble was easy to use, very precise and I've used to 0.4mm (1 day shave) clipper and so far my skins been fine, which to me is a big plus. Highly recommended - my friend's already decided to make himself a Beppe Beard (if anyone remembers him from Eastenders!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simples!, 21 Oct 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Really easy to use, I needed this to convert some old music scores and scripts into pdf files and it was done in a couple of clicks. Everything feels intuitive and where you'd obviously look for it in the menus. It's also great for getting loads of silly 2 page PDF's and merging them all together for one nicely organised PDF's. It also allows you convert PDF files into office documents too, which took me about 20 minutes to just rearrange some of the text boxes etc how I wanted it and I've yet to come across any compatibility issues so far. Very useful product if your using PDF's daily and one of the easiest modding products I've used for ages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strangely Unbalanced But Fun For Quiz Fans, 21 Oct 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
There's a lot of holes you could pick in Nat Geo Quiz. It says Wild Life but actually I've spent the last few hours answering questions about nature instead! The voice presenting is slightly aggrivating. The questions are sometimes answered for you by reading the fact files that are presented with each section of questions and just remembering those facts. Questions sometimes are repeated. Gameplay is generally quite slow.

So why 3 stars and not 1? Well its not all bad. You do actually learn as you go along. There's also for the first time a quiz game that has a proper 1 player mode. Quest mode is the 1 player yarn which places loads of categories of 10 questions for you to answer. Get 10/10 (not really hard as the questions dont change on reattempts) and it unlocks Nat Geo clips, puzzler pieces for jigsaws of HD photos for you to put together, really infuriating slider puzzles (which I really cant get into) and cards the quite fun Stat Attax mode. Stat Attax is effectively Top Trumps but with places in the world or animals. You unlock more cards to play with the more questions you get right.

As a result, the game has so much more to offer than just the multiplayer quiz. It has minimal, clean presentation but for the most part it suits the game as I'd rather be looking at the pictures of vistas and small video clips.

Is it as fun as Buzz? No. Is it better than the PS3 Scene It? Yes, unless movies are your big topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best instant gratification launch Move title, 18 Sep 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I think everyone knows what your getting with Start the Party and therefore it plays to its strengths. You have over 20 mini games that turn your move controller into different objects for quick fire mini games. Some like fish popping, topping catcher, ghost scarer use the controller to mimic your movements. Others such as Robot Destroyer hark back to the evil but madly addictive Mirrors game from the original Eyetoy. Infact, EyeToy Play is very much the sibling of this. The photo characters are helerious and the single player survival mode is bound to have leaderboard lovers in a tis.

If I could talk about down sides, there arent as many mini games as I'd like to see and one or two overlap slightly.

Either way I bought this, Kung Fu Rider and Sports Champions and found myself enjoying this much more immediately - especially with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously Addictive, 22 May 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Split/Second (PS3) (Video Game)
I bought this and modnations at the same time and after having plenty of online probs on the first day with my initial "i must have" modnations, stuck this in... and didn't get back the MNR the rest of the day!

Split/Second is set in a rigged to blow tv studio world which 8 drivers race round for the win. By drafting, drifing, passing and jumping you can fill up a power gauge under your car that once filled to at least one of three segments, can be used to tactically blow up parts of the track or set off set piece events that can then take out your opponents. Some of the set pieces literally made my jaw drop, as it all kicks off in such a big way and the graphics never slow down, not even online.

However once the initial thrills of the explosions and wrecking half the field subside a bit, it then becomes much more tacticul - especially racing online as everyone knows where half the stuff explodes, and its more about trying to wrong foot drivers and then catch them off guard or if someone moves to avoid say a blown up building, you blow up the bus next to them instead which takes them out, or drop a pile of metal girders on them instead!

I have to say its been one of the best and most instantly gratifying experiences that then stays with you and lasts I've had with a game probably on the PS3. Love it and recommend it to everyone who likes their racers.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does work, but you need to persevere, 24 Mar 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This toungue cleaner (the scraper doesnt work, its just a slightly indented piece of plastic) does get rid of bad breath to an extent, but it works strangely. If you do it a bit, then actually I found it made your breath worse, probably because you've scraped the top layer of stuff covering the smell off. If you do that, then use mouthwash and then scrape again, it works a treat (or the best way for me anyhow). Good idea, handy to have.
