5.0 out of 5 stars Great film - Good DVD, 24 Oct 2013

This review is from: Freaks [1932] [DVD] (DVD)
Film:
Call it horrifying or call it horrible, Tod Browning's "Freaks" is undeniably a movie of historical importance. Personally, I enjoyed every moment of the film: a social commentary on the 1930s view on the disabled, it has many stand-out moments, particularly the dining-table initiation sequence. 5/5

DVD:
There's a lovely featurette that delves into the cast of "Freaks", and its a genuinely interesting and inoffensive documentary. There's a couple of nifty extra bits and bobs, like an "alternative ending" short which is essentially just the same ending with bits cut out, but there's also a fascinating description of the original cut with an ending sequence considered so horrifying it was removed and lost forever! Really enjoyable extras. The quality of the film is also very good. 4/5

Summary:
Definitely worth a purchase, it's enjoyable and am definitely intending to watch again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 3-line by 3-line translation, 24 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I downloaded the original Dante's Inferno onto my kindle and, for about 10% of the way through I found myself realizing that I spent half the time finding out the definition of each word, only to find out the on-board dictionary didn't recognize half the words.

This version is very useful as it splits the text into lines of 3 and follows each paragraph (of 3 lines) with a simplified version of the text. This saved me time from searching for the exact definition of each word and I could instead glance at the (differently aligned) English translation.

For those who are new to Old English or simply want to read one of the great classics, I'd definitely recommend this. It not only eases you into the language (I'm getting more and more used to it as I read!) but it ensures you can understand what's going on and ENJOY it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great films, decent extras, 30 May 2013

Films:
Okay, so the four films as a whole aren't as memorable or influencial as Kurosawa's greatest, more respected titles, but they're still an enjoyable watch and an interesting insight into Kurosawa's early filmography. Though a select few are borderline propaganda (admittedly "The Most Beautiful" is, reflectively, 100% Japanese ww2 propaganda) - all films are entertaining. Personally I found The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail to be the most enjoyable.

Contents (subtitles, extras, transfer quality),:
No image issues here, the subtitles are good, too. The extra's aren't great, however. A nice booklet is included, and some rare cut scenes from Sanshiro Sugata are also featured, but overall, for a BFI investment and project, I expected a little more for such a project.

Overall:
The lack of extras aside, I am utterly enthralled with this purchase: it's nigh on impossible to find a copy of The Most Beautiful and Sanshiro Sugata Part 2 in English, For approximately 20, you're spending 4 per film, which is a reasonable and worth-while investment. Don't knock this aside for cheap imports from Korea or China: this is all you need. The quality of film and subtitles will confirm this for you.

Cant find the EP anywhere. Please help.

My grandfather listened to this and requested this for his funeral. The whole thing. From the carrying of the coffin, to the Eulogy and then to the cremation, he wants this album playing non stop.

Thanks amazon for this awesome piece of history.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, solid guide., 9 Sep 2008
Fitting in a condensed HL2 guide and then HL2.E1 and E2, followed by Portal and a summary of TF2 is what is written on the book - and thats what you get.
It also lists the achievements you can get, some easter eggs and other munchy treats.
The portal guide, however, is a bit hard to understand when doing the puzzles (I never did need the guide, but looking through it and playing it was a bit of a toughie) therefore the photos that go with it are a bit unneccesary, usually the entire photo is blocked with a picture of a companion cube.
The TF2 guide is useful - for its time. Now with updates, new maps and new weapons its dated. However, it still only points out the bloody obvious. Ofcourse you would know which key is reload, ofcourse you know heavies and medics are a good pair - its simple stuff.

It has some artwork pieces of extras, etc, but it would have been nice for even more extras. Worth the 5 quid I spent on it, though I would hesitate with 10+.
