5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing and original., 10 April 2014
This review is from: Dark Aemilia (Hardcover)
This is an excellent novel. I am not normally a fan of historical fiction, but this had me gripped from page one. Dark Aemilia is an intriguing and engaging proto-feminist protagonist. The period is richly and authentically evoked. The book is a flowing read, all the way through. I would recommend it not only to fans of historical fiction, but to those who might not normally read it. Its feminist theme is as relevant today as then. But the most likable thing about Aemilia is that, despite her feminist stance, her belief in romantic love never falters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great modern rendering., 13 Dec. 2013

Brilliant! Modern, relevant (and irreverent!). The mix of East/West, old and new, the humour: fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed it and am now looking forward to reading his other works.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the ruins of empire, arises the phoenix of a more balanced world., 5 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent. Well-researched and balanced. This is what we need more of, rather than the foolish, one-sided, narrow-minded "West is Best" approach.

Brings Chaucer to life, the wonderful mix of high and low, laugh out loud humour combined with great wisdom. If you ever get fooled again in life after reading this, then you deserve it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 15 Aug. 2002
If you found the original GoF book a bit too formal and you prefer your examples in Java, not to mention the fact that interfaces feature heavily in design patterns and are not supported in C++, then this is the book for you. Covers all 23 GoF patterns in a logical and methodical manner with exercises that lead you through step by step. If you find design patterns rather mystifying at present you will finish this book and wonder what the fuss was all about. Get it!
