5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Live Performance, 20 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A really enjoyable performance from the homecoming friends. I loved the 'In The Round' presentation which they have done previously in a studio setting, however the live atmosphere is outstanding. Some great turns by the always pleasing Booth Brothers, The Hoppers and The Isaacs. A wonderful rendition of Why Me, Lord by The GVB with their new addition of Wes Hampton. For me the highlights were a beautifully lilting performance of Sanctuary by the charismatic Jessy Dixon and the welcome return of gospel giant Michael English with I Bowed On My Knees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patriotic Gospel, 17 July 2014
A great heart pounding patriotic installment of the Gaither Gospel Series. This DVD features most of the regular homecoming friends including some wonderful appearances by The Martins, Ivan Parker, The Isaacs and Jessy Dixon. Gospel legends feature heavily with the likes of Jake Hess, George Younce and Armond Morales. For me the absolute standout performance has to be Let Freedom Ring with one of the best Gaither Vocal Band line-ups including Guy Penrod and the heaven sent vocal ability of David Phelps.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Legendary Congregation, 8 July 2014
The Gaither Homecoming friends perform in the beautiful setting of The Cove, a purpose built church on the grounds of the Billy Graham estate. We are treated to some wonderful hymns and gospel favourites such as On The Jericho Road, Take My Hand Precious Lord and a stand out rendition of Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. Some nice guest artists include The Hayes Family, Selah and for me the highlight of the dvd is a version of Farther Along by The Peasall Sisters. A worthwhile addition to the Gaither series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Singing Saints Of Gospel, 5 July 2014
This review is from: SINGIN WITH THE SAINTS (DVD)
A great addition to the Gaither Gospel Series in the familiar homecoming casual setting of a seated studio around a piano we are treated to some wonderful songs to warm the heart. such gospel luminaries as JD Sumner and Jake Hess are joined by other legends and modern voices giving the viewer show stoppers from Guy Penrod like It Is Finished and subtle harmonies from The Cathedrals performing Mexico with sombreros supplied by the always entertaining Mark Lowry.

5.0 out of 5 stars GVB In Indiana, 29 Jun 2014

Another great installment of the Gaither series. Here we have a concert performance with it has to be said not the greatest Gaither Vocal Band line up but the quality is definately present with the newly recruited Guy Penrod whos contribution to the GVB and gospel music is now legendary. The guest stars headlining are Gospel icons Jake Hess and Hovie Lister and the ensemble performance of Without Him is the highlight of the show. Heartwarming songs to lift the spirits and harmonies that sooth the soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaither Back To Basics, 4 Mar 2014
This is a great accoustic set by possibly the greatest Gaither Vocal Band line up to date, with some excellent turns by The Booth Brothers and Joey & Rory. The performances are the usual top quality from GVB with stripped back musical accompaniament from familiar faces such as Ben Isaacs & Kevin Williams. This is definately worth getting hold of if only as it is possibly the final gathering of this existing Gaither line up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaither At Its Best!, 26 Feb 2014

If you're a fan of the Gaither Homecoming DVDs then this is a essential! If you're new to the experience it's a must! put simply, it's a wonderful collection of songs, with a sprinkling of testimonies and lighthearted anecdotes, featuring familiar faces from the Homecoming friends with current southern gospel artists, seasoned legends and a heartwarming nod to those from previous gatherings that are no longer with us. The theme being 'Giving Thanks' draws back the curtain on some of the lives and experiences of those present leaving the viewer touched and uplifted. This is definately in my top ten of Gaither Homecoming DVDs, a nice partner to this is 'Count Your Blessings' which is from the same gathering.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bleak .....but don't turn off., 26 May 2013
This review is from: Meek's Cutoff [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
This won't be what you expect but if you take on board the date of 1845, pre - Civil War and pre - gun slinger you get the idea. This is a bleak tale of dirt poor immigrants trecking across America to find somewhere to settle, putting their faith in misfit Bruce Greenwood and then in 'an Indian' to lead them to greener pastures. This has a documentary feel to it that may be offputting to some but stick with it. You won't be fully satisfied with the end result and I may have been a bit generous with the three star rating which I class as 'average' but a little wiser for having watched it. Adios.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bronson's Land, 26 May 2013
This review is from: Chato's Land [DVD] (1972) (DVD)
Whether you're a western or Bronson fan you'll definately enjoy this movie. From a western point of view it's an atmospheric and steriotypical view of the 'cowboy' but the theme hints at the change in attitude toward the treatment of the native american. The merciless hunting down of a savage who inevitably thwarts his persuers by leading them into his own world, something John Rambo turned into a franchise. Bronson is on top form with surprisingly little dialogue whose mere presence is invariably enough to propel the action. Superb supporting cast and unrelenting storyline. A definate buy for fans of the above. Adios.

5.0 out of 5 stars Casino Royale - 'the missing track'., 7 Dec 2010
Having recently read Ian Fleming's Casino Royale (the first of the James Bond novels) I discovered that a piece of music is playing whilst Bond and Vesper Lynd are enjoying a meal at a nightclub. "In the far corner, a trio, consisting of a piano, an electric guitar and drums, was playing 'La Vie en Rose' with muted sweetness". After scouring through Amazon I found the track performed by this trio which to my ear sounds like piano/guitar/drums.
