Cold-Hearted Concept (Concepts Book 2)

I loved High Concept, there just don't seem to be a lot of really well done whodunit/mystery/suspense type stories in the M/M genre, and Whitley did a wonderful job in the first book and made me root for the two MC's, Beck and Zach. I'm happy to say they both feature front and centre this time around too. 5 stars from me.

Beck Stryker is a cop in the Denver PD, and a murder task force leader. Dr Zach Littman is a profiler for the FBI but based in Minneapolis. Since the end of the last story, they've been having a long distance relationship but neither is happy about it, and Beck hopes that Zach will tell the FBI where to go, and take a job nearer Denver. When yet another serial killer strikes, has victims in both Omaha and Denver and seems to mimic what the killer Xavier Darling did in High Concept, they are flummoxed, as Xav-D is in a maximum security jail on the outskirts of Denver and is not allowed visitors unless it's under strict conditions. Worst of all, the Follower as he becomes known, has Zach in his sights and has warned everyone that Zach will be victim number 5. We then have a race against time, trying to identify other victims of the mass murderer AND the murderer himself, AND prevent him killing anyone else before his prophecy comes true.

I will warn you, there is some pretty gory stuff in this story. It was fascinating, breathtaking at times, and the ending was particularly nasty...but do my two guys make it at the end?? Enjoy the story, I certainly did!! Great job Whitley!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from John....., 9 Feb. 2016
This review is from: Ollie Always (Kindle Edition)
A lovely slow-burn romance between two guys who both deserved more from life.

Ollie, the main character and from whose POV the story was told, suffered from being his mother's muse for her pornographic series of gay books..even though there was a chance he possibly wasn't gay. Oliver Fitzroy, the slutty main character, was always better than Ollie at everything, and needless to say, Ollie had an inferiority complex the size of a house cos everyone thought the books were based on him. When staying at his mother's house on New Zealand's South Island, ostensibly to write a book, Ollie notices a good looking guy running past the house (which is in the middle of nowhere) every day, decides to ambush him and get to know him better. Little does he realise that he already knows the guy from way back when, and life will start to become far more complicated.

If I have a teeny, tiny criticism of the story, it's that I think Tom could have been 'fleshed out' a little more. I loved Radulf's nemesis, hated the mother although she apparently did everything she did cos she loved her son and Ollie's ideas for his stories were spectacular, and guess what...a John Wiltshire story with hardly any sex!! I WILL make it to NZ one of these years...congrats John.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an emotional read this was...., 7 Feb. 2016
**Goodreads review dated 7th February 2016**

Oh, the feelz in this one!! Beautifully written, this tale from last year's Love is an Open Road event on GR is full of love and longing. It was a coming out story, a Gay for You story, a Friends to Lovers to story, an 'I'm not alone anymore' story...it made me cry, and have a huge grin on my face at the end. Absolutely loved it!! Thanks for the prompt and the story.

Really liked this one with Robert and Liam front and centre. I could've kicked Liam's backside for him several times, especially with his aversion to all things bi-sexual but that would mean he wouldn't have any sort of chance with Robert...and they've been besties for 15 years.

We had a wedding (woot!!), some 'designer' kilts (hehe) and the next story comes out over the summer featuring Ben, the wedding planner and Robert's guide to all things Grindr related and that social pariah Evan, who methinks is sincerely regretting running off to Belgium with his new (now ex) lover and leaving Fergus in the lurch all those months ago.

Great stuff Avery. 5 stars from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant trilogy....unforgettable., 7 Feb. 2016

All the stars, all the stars!! Nearly three years to the day since I finished reading Captive Prince 2, the trilogy is now at an end. Yes, it’s been a helluva long wait for the conclusion (!!), but I really can’t quite believe that we’ve come to the end of our Laurent/Damen journey **sniffles** Dare I say...there surely must be room for a few sequels (pretty please)??

CS Pacat’s writing is exquisite, so vivid and expressive that you almost feel you are actually there in the story itself, her world building is just amazing, so exciting and entertaining…she IS just that good. All of the things I wanted to happen did happen…you see I’m not giving anything away **big grin**. Onto my crème-de-la-crème and brilliant writing shelves immediately, and thanks for the wonderful ride dear Author.

See Me (Lightning Tales Book 3)
Price: £2.80

5.0 out of 5 stars Anything Rupaul can do, 'Adrienne' can do better....., 7 Feb. 2016
This story starts approx 10 years ago when Ric Constanza hears crying in the school library, and finds Adrian DeSoto crying his heart out over the bullying he's having to endure. Although Ric is in the same year as Adrian, they are not close but all that changes as they talk about Adrian's tormentors and what he can do to avoid their unwelcome attention. Adrian comes up with a solution to that problem a few months later, the bravery of which amazes Ric.

Fast forward to the present day and we meet up with Ric and his boyfriend Connor from Trust Me and Alex and Nick from Teach Me having a night out at a restaurant called Lips...and drag queens feature front and centre, especially a stunning looking one with a great voice called Adrienne. She's sassy, bitchy and gives the customers as good as she gets. She recognises one of the faces she sees at the guys table, and after her set, sends a little note to Ric...of course, Ric is gobsmacked to learn that Adrian and Adrienne are one and the same person but Adrian removes all of his make up and joins the guys at their table.

Sitting in the audience is a regular customer as far as the rest of the queens are concerned...they all know him cos they've all been up close and personal with him...in costume. He seems to have a drag queen fetish and after Adrienne's appearance, she becomes his number one target. Of course, once the other queens fill Adrian in on 'Mr Quiet sitting in the corner', he insists on meeting the guy and is stunned to find out that it's his former school crush and erstwhile member of the bullying section Marty Cavanaugh.

When Marty won't take no for an answer, Adrian decides to hand out a highly public humiliation to Marty with the help of the other queens. It . was. vicious, and I was on the fence as to whom I felt more sorry for...Adrian and his remembered pain from school or Marty and his mortification at the restaurant. Of course, we knew some of Adrian's past and the bullying (I would've loved to discover what he did between school and Lips), but Marty's background was an unknown quantity and as we uncover more details about him and his circumstances, I definitely pitied him. I'll leave this one here....

5.0 out of 5 stars A very touching and beautiful story with an older MC....just perfect!!, 21 Dec. 2015
Yay, it's Collars and Cuffs time again!! Yes, it's obviously one of my favourite series and of course, it goes without saying that it's written by one of my favourite authors. Does it also go without saying that it gets 5 stars?? Mais oui...5 stars it is!!

Well, to say I was intrigued is a huge understatement. The biggest plus point for me?? The fact that the usual Dom/Sub roles have been completely reversed, and the elder of the two main characters was/is the sub...Jarod, a 50 year old sub who has been turning in on himself and quietly fading away since the death of his Master Philip 4 years previously. He takes his courage in both hands and goes to a down market club where he's laughed at by practically everyone until Eli, a young fledgling Dom, walks in and immediately knows that Jarod is the one that he wants (there must be a song in there somewhere...)

It's such a refreshing change to find a story where one of the MC's is an older 'statesman' with considerable life experience under his belt, but nothing in life is certain or easy, and Jarod certainly goes through the emotional wringer more than once. There were plenty of tears at one point in particular BUT there were also lots of smiles, laughter and most of all LOVE for all of these characters.

I can give this story no higher recommendation than to say that I obviously have no need to buy it, I have an ARC copy but I HAVE pre-ordered with Dreamspinner Press. This is SUCH a lovely story, it's totally worth it and you too will be rooting for Jarod to get his own Happy Ever After.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fitba!! The beautiful game...LGBT Scottish style., 2 Oct. 2015

4.5 stars. Really enjoyed this little prequel novella of two 18 year olds navigating their way through the turbulent waters of gay adulthood, and all that that entails at a Glasgow University. The central theme of the series is the LGBT Woodstoun Warriors football team, and its players.

Brodie comes from a small village in the North of Scotland where being gay just isn't acceptable, and he's mercilessly bullied by practically everyone including his own mother. Duncan comes from a privileged Glaswegian background with parents who are gay friendly especially if it brings them more sales in their upmarket store...he's more of a possession than a person.

Duncan is quite experienced, Brodie has been too terrified to gain ANY experience but they connect. How Brodie's background of being bullied by footballers meshes with Duncan's playing for an LGBT friendly team, and the abuse (both physical and verbal) it attracts is something they'll both have to work at if they want their relationship to overcome all obstacles.

Have already bought books 1 & 2 and will keep reading AND keep the faith!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read Taylor....., 22 Sept. 2015

Yay!! 5 stars from me. Another story that's finally seen the light of day, having been buried in my mountainous to be read pile for nearly 2 years...eek!!

An unusual but fabulous read from Taylor set in New York featuring Cedric and Kevin. Cedric, an eccentric young English guy who is a germaphobe and suffers dreadfully from OCD and other things but is trying to get his life back on track. He needs to be away from his extremely wealthy but shamefully apathetic English family to do that and gets a job teaching at a college in the Big Apple for as long as his visa will allow, hooks up with a new therapist and tries different medication...and things are finally starting to come together for him.

Kevin is a recently divorced dad of 3 from New Jersey who has finally had the courage to come out of the closet to his wife but no one else yet and needs his cherry popping. He and Cedric meet in a sex shop, it's an absolute disaster and they disappear without swapping contact details BUT surprise, surprise...guess who one of Cedric's new students is?? Both guys are keen on one another but will Kevin bolt when he finally realises just how much work getting together with Cedric will involve, how frustrating things will get AND how much is wrong with him?? He'll need to have the patience of a saint and a shed load of compassion that's for sure....

I admit to crying real tears reading this one. The interaction between Cedric and Kevin's 3 children was just so touching, amazing...and yes, of course, there were bigots in Kevin's family and even friends who had known him since he was a kid turned against him, afraid to catch the 'gay'. A truly delightful story.
