This review is from: The Prisoner [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This show is loosely based on the prisoner tv show from the sixties. This is a intriguing show that during the last few episodes most people will figure out where the village is. Which is much different than the original show which was a place run by a private organization, or company, was it run by a evil spectre like group or a private venture? Or even the communists? In this one all political aspects of the show are gone. This is not the same situation. I did enjoy it though. As long as I didn't think about the original series, that is. However Ian Mckellen is a very good villain in this one. His number two could have easily fit in with the first series in his cold-bloodedness. Or is he that terrible?. Watch the show to get those answers. If you take this show on it's own and enjoy the fine acting in it , then you can find some good themes and ideas and even drama in this series. If not then you will just compare it to the ultra classic first series and hate it. The blu ray looks very good and each episode has several deleted scenes, some of which should have been left in the show. As well as several other extras each episode too. That's a lot for a six episode mini series.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome classic in very good native 3d., 16 Jun 2013
This is part of the classic monsters set which I own. However this deserves a separate review because Universal really did a great job on mastering this in 3d. This was shot in native 3d and that makes it a better looking film that some modern films that are shot in 2d and then slung out in 3d. This 3d looks really clear and well done and the movie is a classic horror film. The monster is not unsympathetic either as it is defending it's territory against the encroaching humans. The sequel was shot in 3d and hopefully they will put that out in 3d as well. the second sequel 'the creature walks among us' is in 2d. Sadly there are very few movies from the 1950's on 3d blu ray. And universal could do a boxset of 50's 3d films as long as they do it right!. "dial m for murder' , the other 1950's 3d flick out ; has many scenes where the 3d is ghosting and such. this has very few 3d problems like that. Maybe a scene or two. And that may depend on your tv. All in all this worth getting and 3d fans should love it as well as fans of classic sci fi and horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great set., 9 April 2013
The remastering is excellent on this set. The show itself is a classic one in colour from the late sixties. It includes the alternate episodes and 'living in harmony'. This was a worldwide hit and remained in reruns well into the late 1990's. (on American tv). A fine provocative series that has a very strange ending unfortunately. However other than that it remains a true classic series and the late Patrick Mcgoohan was at his best in this one. The series has never looked better than on this blu ray set.

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic from a great metal band., 8 April 2013
This review is from: Lights Out (Audio CD)
As far as melodic metal goes UFO came up with some of the all time great releases in that genre. This one features the hit single "too hot to handle' and many other great songs. It's the typical mixture of hard rock and a few great ballads that ufo brought to the fore back in 1974. Michael Schenker fantastic guitar playing is really at it's peak here and this Is a band doing everything right. You won't be disappointed with this one if you love melodic metal or 70's hard rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars a shift from straighter blues into harder territory., 6 April 2013
This review is from: Ssssh (Audio CD)
In 1969 this would have been called acid rock. But this is really metal or hard rock with acid overtones. And ten years after was one of the harder bands around that time. You could feel the blues influence of course throughout this one. But it was a sped up harder rocker. I have the msfl gold disc of this one. That company would pick classic discs and issue them on gold discs , they used to do audiophile records before that. Mobile sound fedilty lab is now out of business but if you can grab one of their gold discs it's worth the effort. The late Alvin Les (died 2013) was setting a hard rock course for his band which until then was a rocking blues band. (fans of the later ten years after may not enjoy that blues rockin' but I do.) this however was on a whole other level and the band kept up this great sound until their demise in 1974. Then Alvin lee never seemed to rock as hard and he abdicated the hard rock guitar sounds to other players. Still he was one of the fastest and best guitar players of the era and this bands work from this point was great. This oen and next few discs band a little known blues rockin' band into a solid hard rock/ acid overtone band a superstar band until 1974. there isn't a bad song on this one get it now.

Ufo's last one was a solid slower blues rocker. This one has great riffs and is solid hard rock mostly. It's not the same as 'the monkey puzzle' it's got pounding tracks that are very good melodic metal. This is more a return to the older style. Although the songs are not as great as 'you are here' this would be imo the best release from them since that one. As the two others in between were more blues rocking. So I don't understand what the hell those one star reviews are about. This is hard rock all the way. I have the bonus track version with two extra songs on it. which is no longer on sale in the U.S. so I had to grab it on amazon.comuk. I have all their studio recordings on cd , and many different versions of them! and lots of live recordings and such. Some boots even so you could say I am a huge fan. but I would agree that this bands last two were average and bluesy. this one is much closer to what you want from ufo.

5.0 out of 5 stars two classic horror films on blu ray, 31 Mar 2013

Demons is one of the best modern style horror movies ever made. The second demons is not as great but it's close to it. The second doesn't have the great hard rock soundtrack that made the first so chilling. And hard rock back then was really good as opposed to the snarling growling junk of today. There is a slight damage problem with demons 2 that is from the master print. other than a few scenes the movie looks great. these movies look as good as they did when first shown on the theaters. They are not available in the u.S. yet so I went ahead and got them from amazon.uk. You have to have a all region player over here to watch them though. Not in Europe though. The movies themselves are incredible visceral horror films in which demons overrun a theater and a highrise condo building respectively. These films only get better as time goes by because they came first and all the video games in the world won't take that away from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars fine documentary shot in hd., 31 Mar 2013

This is a documentary about how mankind has introduced invasive species and the damage they do. You get a lot of scientists talking to you about the problem and the filmmakers made a interesting film here. The film was shot in native 3d so that's excellent too. This is not a nature show though it more about the effects that the toads have had on Australia. The history of the toads, the damage they have done. It features people killing the toads , and a few trying to save a few. It is a documentary and social history as well. So don't expect a nature show. It is a heartbreaking show though to be sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars top gun 3d is a upgrade.., 18 Mar 2013
Unlike many movies that were shot in 2d and then processed into 3d this one is absolutely excellent. 3d is often used for depth and they painstakingly did a 3d transfer for this movie. So comments that the 3d is bad are not accurate. This is not 'clash of the titans' ,or "i robot' which were ok at best in their 3d processing. They did this one for Imax and it just shines in 3d , in fact the film looks much better color wise than the 2d version because that was put on blu ray in 2006. There's a huge difference in what they can do on blu ray in just those seven years!. The movie is a classic action movie from the 1980's and watching it transports you back to the late cold war period and the 80's too. The music was better than todays pop music for sure and it was varied and fun. This movie features hot performances from the stars involved too. It's a sizzler and it made tom cruise a superstar. He was already a star though. Kelly mcgillis also shines as the romantic lead. part of the magic of movies is that even 30 or forty years later we can see people as they were and the woman had star power. which lasted at least five more years. (for female leads that is not a bad run). Still the movie is wildly exciting and the late tony scott really knew how to make a action film with interesting characters. This was the mid80's biggest hit and for good reason. Everything just smokes in this movie. The planes, (some of which are now retired!, just as many of the sailors of that era are now retired too!). still tear up the sky and this was the pre drone age all the way. when pilots were still the gods of the sky and were used for every mission. get the 3d version the film has never looked better. and it can now be said that a movie mastered on blu ray 5 years ago can look much better today with a new remaster.

this is a outstanding television show. It's a fascinating show about plants. You will learn alot and be entertained at the same time. It was shot in 3d over a years time! David attenbourgh is outstanding as usual too. His brillaint and entertaining at the same time. It has 3 episodes on it , as it was a tv show after all. Shown on sky tv in 3d in 2012. The second disc is the extras and it is only region b or europeon format. So YOU can watch the show with this but for the second disc you will need a all region player. (u.s. readers, euros you can watch it of course) If you don't care about the making of disc then it shouldn't be a problem to you. So yes, if you order this on amazon.com or amazon.comuk (that's where I got mine), you can watch the 3d series. I have a allregion 3d blu ray player so I can watch the second disc as well. You will learn alot of facts about plants , for instance how they interact with animals and other fascinating facts. the photography is one of a kind because they took a full year to shoot some of this. In this you can see plants move in motion that shows them for the vibrant creatures they are. Sometimes they can move relatively fast of course but often we don't notice it all. the picture on this blu ray is amazing and the colors are truly a sight to behold. Only a twit who is very shallow wouldn't enjoy this fine nature series. this does have a 2d version on it as well for non 3d viewers.
