4.0 out of 5 stars remixed versions., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Double Platinum (Audio CD)
these remixed versions of the earlier released songs. At the time this hit disc was seen as a greatest hits package. It had a hit single in the u.s. 'strutter 1978" on it. which sounds quite different and more dancey perhaps. The songs are mixed diffferently and the sound is different. Which means that this is not re-recorded but instead had studio people make a new version of older songs mix wise. which was a interesting idea. Kiss fans liked this one but most of us liked the original versions better. So this is one that fans should grab after getting the early catalog probably. hit single regardless.

4.0 out of 5 stars still able to make very good ones., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Chinatown (Audio CD)
Thin lizzy was about to head down. Phil lynotts drug problems would destroy this band and take his life in 1986. drugs suck , what else can you say? but in 1980 this one came charging out with some really great tunes. I couldn't have guessed how phil was blowing it at this point. Song's like 'killer on the loose' are still played by thin lizzy today! 'chinatown' was prime hard rock too. Some songs are not as great but overall this was a strong effort , even if you could see the cracks starting to come to foreground.

5.0 out of 5 stars strong live cd. and studio tracks that are good too., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Alive II (Audio CD)
This is traditional kiss , hard rock with lots of melody and good licks. this features mostly live tracks , from their monster tours of the period. When they were the worlds number one band , they repeated this in the 1990's tour wise! The rest of the songs are late seventies hard rock and they are good songs of that genre. 'rockin in the usa.' , 'rocket ride' , 'larger than life' were good enough to make any kiss and hard rock fan happy. Noone at this point could see the pop stuff that would damage them in 1980. so fans were more than happy with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolute classc rock cd., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
This is a complete classic of 1970's hard rock and rock in general. It has the huge hits 'sweet emotion' and 'walk this way' on it. But overall this is a band who had truly found greatness. NOt that their earlier stuff was less than very good mind you. but this one came and conquered the world with it's hard rock riffs and really cool songs. From the start of this one to the end of it , you'll be hearing a rock band that did it their way and made some powerful and yet fun tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars back to the top!, 4 Aug 2012

Aerosmith was back at the top! With this huge hit cd. It had no less than 4 big hits on it: 'dude looks like a lady", 'love in a elevator' , 'angel' and 'ragdoll" . But this one just zings through will lots of wonderful riffs and a band who were obviously having fun. This isn't hard metal but rather great hard rock or just rock songs that have the hooks to lift you up! I like it much better than 'done with mirrors' and that was not a bad cd in the least , it's just that this one is far more well made and played and everythin is firing here like a well oiled machine made up of five guys who know how to make good songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars varied from hard rock to pop., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Gene Simmons (Audio CD)
This was at the time a departure from the regular kiss groove. It had alot of good songs on here though in various styles. A few songs sound like beatle songs even. Fans were amused to not happy on this release. This does have lots of great guests on it though , like bob segar and cher! (who gene was dating at the time). Fans of hard rock only will not be overly joyful about this one but if you like well made pop rock then this is a fun cd. And songs like 'living in sin' , and 'burning up with fever' are very traditional kiss sounding.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic live cd and debut for this band., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Live Im Roxy Und Bunker (Audio CD)
this band could have been huge. If they had sung in english. But they unwisely stuck to german, which killed their sales outside of germany. And this is a hot band playing hard rock in a very good slamming style. silimiar to hard rock that was out around the world but it's also punky in some songs. I had this on album and although I couldn't understand the words I loved the music. The singing is better tha ramstien too. But this isn't that kind of hard rock it's more 1970's style , which fits the year this came out in 1979.

4.0 out of 5 stars well played and sung. worth owning., 4 Aug 2012

By this time 'rainbow' was no longer a prog rock band. they were now selling well made strong hard rock songs. and this one had the hit 'street of dreams' on it. Joe lynn turner keeps up the great work as lead singer. The band here is tight and the songs well played , but fans of more expiremental prog rock would not agree that this is a great one. I like it alot and in fact rainbow didn't make a bad cd in their popular period from 1975-85 so if it's in that period you know you will get a good cd of hard rockin tunes done by pros. This is more commercial than the early stuff but it still has a good feel to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars kiss still riding the crest., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Kiss-Animalize (Audio CD)
This well recieved and selling kiss cd was similiar to 'lick it up' but it had a new guitarist . mark st johns. (he died of cancer a few years back rip). The whole band rises to the occasion and lands a hit single 'heavens on fire' on this one too. The sound is great 1980's melodic metal , which is derided by some , but lets face it , todays thrashy scene has almost no women enjoying it. this isn't about angry meth users , this is typical kiss and that's a good thing for fans of this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars return to melodic metal greatness., 4 Aug 2012
This review is from: Revenge (Audio CD)
This cd brought kiss back from it's poppier last effort. Which still had some fine moments and a hit single. This one had the hit single 'god gave rock and roll too you two' which was used in 'bill and teds" second movie. it was a remake of a old argent tune and they did it right for sure. This one is a very solid hard rocker and it was well recieved by critics and fans alike. The general tone is hard rocking but not grunge or thrash at all. The bands great drummer eric carr had just passed away of cancer (rip) , and he was replaced by the excellent eric singer. This one is a must for fans of traditional hard rock metal. It's melodic and well played and sung. There's not a bad song on here and that's more that can be said about 'hot in the shade' , which is still not too bad overall.
