2.0 out of 5 stars Hippy Vamps that suck, 2 Oct 2014

This review is from: Death Master (DVD)
Very low budget B movie horror. The plot is very basic, but that aside the acting is awful. There are no real shocks or scares (or any sense of tension.)
The film opens very well with an iconic macabre scene of a coffin conjured up from the ocean and a giant mute dragging the said coffin along the beach.(stylish).Then everything deteriorates into a feast of bad dialogue and acting. If you can stomach meaningless 1960's
hippy jargon and platitudes that's fine but the action is limited to the protagonists running around the cellars of a imitation gothic house.
Robert Quarry starred in two great vampire movies COUNT YORGA and the RETURN OF COUNT YORGA. Both these films are vastly superior to this sad offering. However if you are a collector of vampire films this cult movie is worth obtaining purely for the price.Other versions of this film are too pricey. The quality of the picture and sound in this release are both good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Horror, 26 Sep 2014
This review is from: Dark Star Rising (Kindle Edition)
Average horror yarn.Very dated Mills and Boon style, with protagonists who are rather one dimensional with over simplified character traits.Historical mistakes such as afternoon tea being served in the 15th century( Tea was not available in England until the 17th century). There are much more terrifying satanic tales that are worth reading HELL CANDIDATE by Thomas Luke & THE DEVIL RIDES OUT by Dennis Wheatley, among others. This book is okay if you are on a long flight with nothing to do.

Outstanding value. Great pencil erasers -picks up most pencil marks without damaging the paper and does not leave unsightly marks after use.Because of their softness they get worn out very quickly so buying them in a double pack for such is price is a bargain.
As an artist and illustrator, I highly recommend this great product from such a reliable and professional quality manufacturer of pencils.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality sketchbook, 23 Sep 2014

Very useful sketch book . I got it because of its size - it's easier to sketch a decent sized image or a montage of smaller related pictures. Not handy to carry around but great for studio work. The paper has a good texture, great for pencil or pen and ink drawing and at 150 g/m2 it's strong enough not to be damaged by erasing. This series of books come in A4 size as well if you need to sketch outdoors.Very good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic war movie, 27 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First class war movie that does not pull any punches. The secret war to destroy the nazi V-1 rockets is handled with sensitivity, without losing any of the excitement and pace of the narrative. In parts, harrowing, as the innocent suffer for the greater good of the mission.(The region 1 DVD I owned was not good as the picture kept freezing and jumping scenes half way through the film). The picture and sound quality in this DVD was excellent and it is well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vampire tale, 13 Aug 2014

This review is from: Midnight Mass (Kindle Edition)
First written as a short story which was stunning-Where the fight against the vampires was restricted to a local parish.A disgraced priest teams up with a rabbi to defeat the blood sucking horde lead by a renegade priest. This book incorporates another short story about a vampire hunting nun to produce a much longer story about humans at war with an increasingly powerful global corporation of very nasty vampires. The book is hugely entertaining and a real page turner. The protagonists are well rounded characters with flaws and self doubts and are not one dimensional. The vampires are truly nasty and not the vapid ,beautiful, creatures found in some modern tales of the undead.Great read -Well worth the price on kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for history buffs, 22 July 2014

This a very balanced look at the early years of World War 2.It covers the prejudices, vanities and preconceived notions of the various nations involved in the conflict which lead to horrendous mistakes that was paid in human life.Technological advances that were ignored by the Allies, while Germany and Japan forged ahead with newer innovations and the racial stereotyping that underestimated the Japanese is a shocking revelation.Len Deighton destroys the myths that we grew up with in this outstanding eyeopening book.It also warns us that the present economic recession, the widening gap between the rich and poor together with unrestrained economic migration (conditions prevalent at that time)can lead the world into another horrendous conflagration.

Good Guys & The Bad Guys [DVD] [1969] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
Dvd ~ Robert Mitchum
Offered by EliteDigital UK
Price: £37.95

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable comedy western, 22 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Robert Mitchum is a aging weary town marshal who teams up with his old equally aging adversary George Kennedy to foil a robbery planned by younger ruthless outlaws given to needless violence. It's all about the older generation longing for the good old days when even outlaws had a sense of respect for life and behaved decently towards their adversaries. The usual supporting actors like Martin Balsam do their best and Burt Kennedy does a good directorial job.The film is a sort of comic Sam Peckinpah movie (Ride the High Country, Ballad of Cable Hogue) that entertains- but don't expect comedy on par with great western comedy films like Support your Local Sheriff.
