5.0 out of 5 stars Thriller and love story rolled into one, 12 Dec 2014

Thriller and love story rolled into one. As with all love stories you know she will end up with him in the end but how they arrive there keeps the reader engaged throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem!, 26 Nov 2014

Having read 'Leaving Pimlico' I was looking forward to reading this and was not disappointed! The attention to detail once again shows either a deep knowledge of the subjects covered or intense research! One assumes from the references that Mr North, (I guess he IS male!), is a Cambridge man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story but you will need to concentrate!, 20 Oct 2014

The gripping storylines are marred by the constant flipping from one line and one family to another. I haven't finished it yet but am finding it difficult to keep up with in which family I am reading about which plot line from one chapter to the next. Well worth the trouble to read though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well within expectations, 20 Oct 2014

It is always difficult to know whether a particular version of a well-known piece (I have sung this in Ely Cathedral) will live up to expectations or will disappoint. This one was a good choice!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Grapes of Wrath meets slavery, 20 Oct 2014

A vivid description of man's inhumanity to man. It is almost impossible to believe that humans could do such things to each other and yet, like the holocaust, we know it to be true. Up there with The Grapes of Wrath, anyone who feels hard done-by should read this.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting insight into a troubled mind, 20 Oct 2014

An informed description of a true and harrowing story. There is a bit too much, though, about the author, as if he feels it necessary to vouch his credentials throughout.

As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (Penguin Modern Classics)
As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (Penguin Modern Classics)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful narrative, 20 Oct 2014

Having been brought up in Gloucester I am familiar with the countryside and villages that feature in Lee's works, although not with the Spanish mainland. However so vivid are his descriptions that it feels as though one is watching a film rather than reading a book. Some of the scenes he describes are frankly horrific and yet, like a scientist, he observes, remarks, and leaves without, in most cases, changing anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story that COULD just be true!, 20 Oct 2014

I wrote a review of the wrong book against this so if you saw it please ignore! This is one of those clever books that, although horror/horrific, could just be true, so one's credibility is not stretched. A harrowing story of one woman's descent into depravity and the fact that when life seems as though it couldn't get any worse IT CAN, MUCH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to put down!, 7 Jun 2014

Brilliantly crafted with the ending well concealed until the very end. The psychological manoeuvrings throughout made this difficult to put down.

An exciting and emotional story. Highly recommended if you enjoy murder, intrigue, romance, and raw emotion. Something for everyone in this book.
