4.0 out of 5 stars Fears for Frears, 9 Feb 2014

Following Nina Stibbe's entertaining and very readable collection of letters to her sister, written during her period employed as nanny to the delightful Frears children during the 1980's, a huge and troubling lacuna remained, how was Sam Frears ?.
The delight in finding that "Being Sam Frears" was a recent mini biography of a very extant Sam , who has suffered the appalling and worsening rigours of the Riley- Day syndrome since birth, made the book a must. The humorous and stoic Sam the younger brother is more concerned about incipient baldness and West Ham than the more deleterious features of "the Riley-Day" as Sam refers it.
A satisfying companion to the serendipitous "Love Nina".

I can't imagine a more honest and revealing politically related autobiography. McBride's mea culpa smacks of the unvarnished truth .
I found him a more sympathetic character than I thought I would. If only the wretched Campbell could deliver something on this level !.

A magnificent piece of research, beautifully written with a compelling rationale of the link between the experiences of the 1914/1918 war and its impact on many members of the three expeditions.Evocative descriptions of the Tibetan world in the early 20th century. My book of the decade so far, which will be hard to beat.

I purchased this item on behalf of a 92 year old lady who has trouble with anything heavier. A small convenient vacuum for light cleaning duties.
