2.0 out of 5 stars Almost unreadable, 6 April 2014

The language is hard to read. It needs translating into modern language. No doubt the film succeeded in doing this, but the written word is too much of a chore to be enjoyable.

This is the first 'Sarah Newby' that I have read. Gripping plot and well drawn characters. I am just about to download the others.

Highly recommended

1.0 out of 5 stars Probably the worst book I have ever read, 10 Aug. 2012

Hard to find anything good to say about this book. The plot, such as it is, is full of holes. The English and grammar are terrible (e.g 'upon' spelt 'apon', Scotch whisky constantly referred to as whiskey. The research woeful at one point someone dials 911 instead of 999. This in a book set in England.

At one point I thought I had missed the point and it was actually an allegory of the troubles in Northern Ireland, but then I decided it was just bad.

Its a good job it cost nothing, or I would want my money back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot shame about the English, 18 Sept. 2011

Very enjoyable book, but the English drives you mad. Set in Manchester it is fine for "he was sat" and "gotten" in dialogue, but not in the narrative please. I look forward to the next book, but please get a good editor.
