5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic reference for statistical tests., 5 Aug. 2015
I can't recommend this book enough. It gives an astonishing level of detail on the most common statistical tests with full and detailed instructions for their use. Each one is described with examples and includes a full description of the assumptions applying to the test as well as the pitfalls to look out for. It's helped me really understand what's going on in the stats package I use (R) and to ask critical questions of myself when building models. It's bloody expensive but well worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars You have to pay at least £10 a month just to play the game and then it doesn't work., 10 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In **tiny** print on the box you are told that you have to pay a monthly subscription to play the game. I bought the game for my son and neither of us knew this beforehand. If it had been mine I'd have sent it back for a refund immediately.

When he did install it it's awful. It crashes every five minutes, drops its connection to the server continually and is generally crap.

I might send a copy of this to trading standards - it's junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy useless zip., 22 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Unless you have a dopey dog that never chews anything, the zip will be wrecked in no time. My cocker spaniel puppy destroyed hers in 4 days.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book but no solutions, 9 Dec. 2013
Cambridge University Press don't seem to have woken up and realised that many people are studying outside universities. There is no point buying this book for self study as they won't give you the answers to the exercises unless you are a teacher. There are many other books from other publishers that don't have this archaic restriction.

Engineering Dynamics

Price: £53.64

1.0 out of 5 stars Exercises have no solutions!!!, 4 July 2012
This review is from: Engineering Dynamics (Hardcover)
A good book but a waste of time for self-study. There are no solutions to the exercises and you have to have a lecturer account at Cambridge University Press to download them.

Elementary Probability for Applications
Elementary Probability for Applications
by Rick Durrett
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £47.99

1.0 out of 5 stars No solutions to exercises!!, 4 July 2012
In order to see the solutions to the exercises, you need to be a registered lecturer at Cambridge University Press. This makes the book useless for self-study as you can't tell if you are doing the exercises correctly.

2.0 out of 5 stars A great book but useless exercises because there are no solutions provided., 4 July 2012
For some stupid reason, you have to be a registered lecturer before you can download the solutions to the exercises from the Cambridge University Press web site. So for someone undergoing independent study, it's useless. The book is well written and clear but you can't tell if you are progressing because the questions have no answers given.

CUP really need to stop doing this and allow anyone access to the solutions.

Life and Times of Michael K

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful writing., 11 July 2007
I can't think of any other author who can write with the economy of Coetzee. With practically no imagery, he manages to convey a sense of emotion and place which is overwhelming. There's something alien about Michael K and the way he refuses all help and seems resigned to the collapse of his life. I think this book is a more subtle but much more powerful allegory of Africa than "Disgrace"

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, 11 July 2007
I haven't done any chemistry for over 20 years. I bought this on a whim and it's got me completely hooked. The book starts with basic introductions on the structure of DNA and proteins and then delves into ever more detail. It's easy to follow, consistently interesting and so well laid out that you find your knowledge increasing steadily as you read.

In order to get the best from the book, you'd probably need to have A level chemistry or similar but I'm managing to understand it despite my memory of organic chemistry being pretty dim.
