4.0 out of 5 stars Ohh .... which one shall I make first?, 15 Dec. 2005
When I saw the cover of this book I just knew I had to get it. From the picture on the cover I knew that what items it had stored within its pages I would just love to make. How right was I? The items inside the book are delightful and should encourage you to get out your beads and produce one (or more!) of the exqistite items inside. The written instructions are quite easy to understand and these are backed up with excellent pictures, showing you exactly what to do, if your anything like me I am to impatient to read all the instructions thoroughly and I just tend to follow the pictures!!! There are several things to make, all of which are really lovely. It would be for all levels of bead making from the beginner to the 'more used to beading' people. I really love this book, one which I return to time and time again. Trouble is I can never make my mind up which item to do next!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW..., 14 May 2003
I was thrilled with this book as I didn't realise the full potential of free machine embroidery. When you first see the cover you think it looks very complicated and hard to do, but once you've opened it up it explains the basics and goes right through to more advanced techniques. It starts at the very beginning including how to 'frame the hoop' and what to do before you begin to sew. It gives a summary of the stitches, gives you exercises to do and it is wonderfully illustrated with large clear pictures and photographs. It also includes a section on how to paint your own fabric, to give a more exciting background to your embroidery and builds up to applique and stumpwork. Not only is this a wonderful guide but it is also full of inspiration and encouragement for you to let your imagination explode. I would recommend this book to beginners and more experienced like minded people in this field. A truly inspirational and informative book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Without This One........., 14 May 2003
As always Dorothy Wood has done it again. If you know Dorothy's work and the way she presents any of her books then you'll know how informative and easy to follow they are. On the other hand you may have never of heard of her. So let me take this opportunity of saying what a brilliant book this is. As I said beforehand, she, as always, starts at the very beginning of her subject (in this case Embroidery Skills & Techniques) and takes you through step by step, each step having a full explination with no jargon and fantastic pictures alongside so she actually shows you what she talking about and doing, so there's no way you have to imagine what's supposed to be going on, you have the pictures right there to compare your work. She explains what each stitch is used for, where it can be used and explains and shows you how to do it.
This book will take you through from the materials and equipment, different embroidery stiches, needlelace, beadwork, hand stitched applique to machine embroidery and information about the sewing machine itself. A very worthwhile book beautifully illustrated and above all easy to follow. An inexpensive book worth it's weight in gold!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book............, 14 May 2003
Fantastic, great, wonderful....these are the words you'll say once you've bought this book, it's an absolute must have for beginners and experienced quilters and patchworkers alike. It is well illustrated and extremely easy to follow. If your like me and very new to quilting it explains everything in easy terms, no jargon! The pictures are easy to follow too. There were lots of question I had and wondered about many things to do with quilting and this book helped with both. In essence, I would say if I could only own one book about quilting, this would be it. It offers everything you need and want to know. I would highly reccommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this subject.
