A moving portrait of a very unhappy child brilliantly and energetically played by the unknown actor, Thomas Doret.
Cecile de France is a most sympathetic actor and a pleasure to watch. Indeed there is no tendency to portray any of the care workers as unpleasant, in spite of the very difficult and provocative behaviour of Cyril. His father was also not totally unpleasant although his attitude to Cyril was hard to accept. One could understand his unfortunate circumstances.
A feel-good film which made it charming and 'sympathique'. Well worth watching. Another success for Dardenne

Having read and possessed all of Debbie's novels over the last 20 years I consider this book one of her best. The large number of characters make it complicated to follow and the prior reading of her earlier novel the Ex Wives is probably very necessary. Maybe a fuller description of the characters at the beginning,(a la Jilly Cooper) might be helpful. The end was unpredictable and the narrative congenial. There are a number of perceptive comments,' Fat people always look the same,' for example, but other remarks I have read in Debbie's previous novels.
I hope this novel is made into a film which should be as successful as 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' The casting of Buffy will be crucial and I hope Debbie will write the script.
