5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Stories - perfect for kids!, 23 Sept. 2015
This is a wonderfully warm book, perfect for any family to read with their children.

It is a series of lovely interwoven stories about woodland friends, with beautiful illustrations that complete the book perfectly.

From Tiny Mouse to "not-so-wise owl", the stories have messages of family values and friendship, with tongue-in-the cheek asides that balance out the tales perfectly.

My children already love having this book read to them, and I just know this will become a household favourite for us all in the run up to Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scientifical research at its very best!, 15 Sept. 2014
This seminal tome, as mighty as it is weighty, really raised the bar for would-be researchers in this critical field of molecular microbiology. I will never tire of reading the author's warm, engaging, yet insightful and masterful descriptions as, page by page, he delves deeper and deeper into the enigmatic gene "gerT".

What does this gene do? For years researchers have debated endlessly about the role of "gerN" - a proven Na+/K- antiporter and its impact into the germination of Bacillus cereus. But the discovery of its homolog, gerT, almost shook the academic institution to the ground. BOOM!

I was hooked after the first page. Boom after Boom after Boom!

If you only ever read one PhD thesis then read this one. But be warned... It will change your life forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bawdy, lusty fusion of sex and science, 15 Sept. 2014
"He stood atop of the prow of his ship, wind blowing his hair across his rugged features. She gasped as the rain fell upon his taut, chiselled body, rivulets of cold water running down his tanned muscled arms. The moonlight fell around him in a radiant pool and she almost fainted as she remembered the first time he had held her in his arms and she had set eyes on his Marilyn Monroe tattoo.

'It's okay babe', he murmured. His mancunian accent carried on the wind and took her breath away. 'I'll have you back to shore soon and then you'll be able to continue the scientifical research work that will some day save the world from the toxicity of xenobiotics".

Well, this is it. This is the book that changed the face of scientific literature for chicks, way before writing was even a twinkle in E L James' eye. And reading this excerpt above, it's not hard to see why. Combining every woman's love of romance with outstanding scientific research, this really is the thinking woman's "50 shades of gray".

Buy this lab-coat ripper and, by gum, you'll never look at another Bunsen burner in the same light again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally Sweet, 8 Dec. 2003
Ninjas are some of the coolest mammals on the planet and this book tells us the true life stories straight from their secret training scrolls! Eric van Lustbader must be a big secret grandmaster in getting a hold of these stories - if he isn't then the ninjas will be mad as hippos that their secrets are out to the public! He is a dead man for sure!
Once again we see the ninjas facing their age old natural enemies, the pirates. One of the ninjas, Timmy Slegehead, is on a timeless quest to uncover the secret of the pink curtains. In seeing this quest through he goes undercover into the seedy world of the red light industry to infiltrate pimps in a bid to find the true secret.
In conclusion; you would be a fool to miss it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Alas Glorfindel, we knew him well, 15 April 2003
For many this was the first, the only, the precious. I watched this movie when I was just a nipper and fell in love, and I am still in love with it now (much to the dismay of my good wife).
While it doesn't even come close to the Peter Jackson epic, the characters and storyline are handelled so carefully that they stay much closer to the real books. Hell - there's even a few songs from the books in there too.
It still manages to be dark and brooding, the Nazgul carry a presence not normally seen in a cartoon, and it's obvious that Jackson drew some inspiration from this movie - the Hobbits hiding from the Nazgul in the old forest is almost a carbon copy from the cartoon.
If you're looking for a different slant on the movie then this is the film for you... it might even put a few doe eyed women off of Aragorn!

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer film, 5 Jan. 2003
For sheer ironic enjoyment, this film has to be one of the greatest martial arts films ever made. Join Steve Chase and his gang of friends as they attempt to thwart the evil genius Marduk, and his plans to gain control of the world.... through mind control.
Marvel as Steve decks legion after legion of kiaing baddies. Gasp in awe as he jumps through the air. Suspend your disbelief as Marduk's secret operations (cunningly named "operation intercept", "operation skydive" and "operation water supply") are foiled.
Every baddie attacks with a stepping punch. Every attack, every jump, every god damn move is accompanied by a kiai.
If you like watching karate films, if you like to watch very bad karate, this is the film for you. It rocks.
