Blues Jam Live Audio: Magic Slim
Blues Jam Live Audio: Magic Slim
Price: 5.94

1.0 out of 5 stars Forget it!, 9 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I jumped at this, because you can't get enough Slim!! But on listening, this sparse collection (some mis-titled anyway) seems to be lifted from the Buddy Guy's Legends series of CDs & DVDs, from which the Charly 'Blues Guitar Summit' CD and various 'Chicago Blues Jam' DVDs (at LEAST)are still around and infinitely better buys............

2.0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL!!!, 9 Jan 2014
I've only had a quick listen to see what the 'Re-mastering' has produced. The sound does indeed seem to have been beefed up, BUT SOME OR ALL TRACKS SEEM TO HAVE BEEN SPEEDED-UP, MAKING SOME SOUND SHRILL & DOWNRIGHT SILLY...................

SO, IF THE DOWNLOADS ARE LIKE THE SAMPLES, COUNT ME OUT.................

4.0 out of 5 stars CAN SOMEONE, PLEASE LIST CORRECT TRACKS! Good, solid Chicago album, 16 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: It's the blues (MP3 Download)
(ALL THE LISTED TRACKS ARE SHOWN WITH SAME TITLE!!! PLEASE ADJUST)
This was a fine, rocking Chicago LP in its day (1980) and it's a pity the 1991 CD was so short-lived. Behind Koda's own solid vocals, guitar & harp, he used some Chicago stalwarts (Michael 'Mudcat' Ward, Brewer Philips, Left-Hand Frank - and the MUCH-missed LEFTY DIZZ, who gets a fragmentary vocal at the end...............) Good to see available again. This contains the ten tracks on the original 1981 Baron LP, plus six live tracks (aurally, from around the same time? There was an incarnation as a CD, around 1991; tracks unknown to me)

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be much better, 3 Oct 2011
I bought this, even as a United fan. Now the pain has subsided (a bit!!), it is still a spellbinding game of football. I endorse all RebelScum's comments - also, both teams played some wonderful games in the earlier rounds...why no "How They Got There" extras??? Just bare match coverage is NOT good enough, these days.....it's no wonder the eBay bootleggers do such good business!! At least it is better than the utter GARBAGE masquerading as United's own Season DVD, this year, which MUST be the worst of its kind EVER, EVER made!!!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Yes, dubbed from disc (& not very well!!), 29 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Pieces Of Hancock (Audio CD)
Yes, shame that it has been badly dubbed from vinyl, after waiting for 50 years!! All episodes long since out on CD, anyway, but THIS one was well liked because of Hancock's specially recorded introductions to each extract.
What with EMI preventing BBC issuing its own complete, Goon Shows, (coz it was allowed grammophone rights in perpetuity, yet not even issuing all of even their hacked-up versions) I despair of these big companies who don't even seem to KNOW what they're issuing or sitting on.....!!

1.0 out of 5 stars NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!, 21 Jun 2011
I OBJECT TO HAVING TO GIVE THIS ONE STAR.....IT DESERVES NONE.....IT IS UTTERLY UNWATCHABLE......and I thought it was just me getting crusty, till I saw what everyone else was saying!! I've long since become sick of the increasing gimmickry with football highlights coverage; the manic over-editing, excessive zooming, flickering/jerky picture presentation & other annoying special effects, ghastly growling film-trailer-type voice-overs and the now obligatory intrusive music - but these are all here in abundance. It's hard to express my own crushing disappointment, as a fan, as I've eagerly bought these things FOREVER, but this is BY FAR the worst I've ever seen. I defy anyone to recognise a single game or goal before you are told what it is, as build-up is shorn utterly; and the multi-camera angles are not shown separately, to emphasise a great goal, but are all edited into one, with some showing 2-3 angles between shooter and net! WHY?? Because they CAN!! But it makes watching it a total torment and is worse (given the technology) than the old newsreels we used to laugh about. I can JUST ABOUT live with only having MUTV's highlights, though the varied mix of Sky, BBC & ITV commentaries always made for better viewing.....just think of some of the iconic descriptions over the years - as much a part of the coverage as the goals, but now apparantly a thing of the past in the name of profit.........

IF THEY BOTHER TO READ THESE REVIEWS, UNITED SHOULD BE BIG ENOUGH TO PULL THIS DISASTER-MOVIE NOW and get their old producers to do some rapid damage-limitation....but I'm not holding my breath, now they've got my money!! If they don't, try to catch the MUTV Season Highlights show; a bit clipped, as it's only an hour, but superior in every way................VERY sad to say it, but - TOTAL GARBAGE!! AVOID!!AVOID!!AVOID!!

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE, BROTHER BEWARE!!, 22 Aug 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this, after buying the long-awaited DVD issue of "Help!!!!" , thinking it might similarly be the DVD release of the tape issued as a separate companion issue when the film was issued on VHS a few years back. The listing said little, not even the usual running-time info.
NO WONDER, as it is apparently only contains "22 minutes of Silent film footage". The single star, is purely coz I've not WATCHED it (left sealed for refund purposes!!), though the 22 silent minutes would have to be pretty special to warrant even that!! Mine's going back, as someone's having a laugh, here..................

4.0 out of 5 stars Another lost opportunity???, 27 Feb 2006
Other reviewers are dead right. VERY disappointing to have been led to believe the other episodes had turned up, only to find it's only these AND not even including all KNOWN remaining shows, anyway!! IN ADDITION they still hold (and have shown fairly recently) a smashing little sketch recorded for their "Christmas Night With The Stars" annual Christmas show, introduced by Billy Cotton (1964)- said to be a coup at the time because it was such a new series. VERY sloppy!!
(There was a similar Steptoe sketch in a later year - wonder if they'll overlook that too!?)
