5.0 out of 5 stars Completely accurate assessment of the TSR 2 project, 20 Mar 2011
This is a remarkable book. A work of fascinating technical detail, but also military, political and scientific involvement in one of the most debated aircraft saga's. A saga of technical achievement, technical failiure, military desire and indifference, political manouverings, and business in-fighting.
I think the most important aspect to come out of this book, is the final conclusion, that the decision to cancel was justified in the end, and debumks many of the myths of the scrapping of the project.
A truly authorative book, on a very controversial aircraft.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bernie.. the biography he approved...., 20 Mar 2011
The nearest thing to an authorised biography of Bernie. Lots of details and stories, and I think the early part of the book is quite interesting, the used car days, the racing, the involvemnet with driver management, and the early days fo the Brabham purchase, but the second half seems to get bogged down once it goes into Bernie's financial dealings for FOCA, and successive ventures.
Biggest problem is that I'm sure some of the stories have been cleaned up, and some stuff carefully omitted. You don't get to where Bernie is, without "breaking a few legs" or something similar, it's just too nice and simple, "he's a wonderful chap, buys his mother flowers", none of the real "Doug and Dinsdale" stuff.
However, compared to the alternative Tom Bower book, this is a work of genius.

1.0 out of 5 stars So secret, I made it up !!!,, 17 Mar 2011
This book is a shocker !! I suspect Mr Bower doesn't have the faintest idea what actually happens in F1. This book has so many factual errors it becomes quite amusing to keep score. Events happen before things were even made, people who weren't even at certain races influenced the outcome, drivers that we didn't realise were world champions (Carlos Reutemann), overall a complete waste of paper. Probably the worst aspect of this book, is that there is a fascinating story to be told, but his isn't it. Save your money, if you have something better to do that just throw it away, buy the "Bernie" book, it's more factual, not the whole story sadly, but at least what is says is generally correct.
