5.0 out of 5 stars Great pencil, wrong photo, 19 Dec. 2014
I use these for a life drawing class and I think they are great, they are smooth to use and blend really well with a finger or cloth. The pencil wrap means that you can avoid the frustration of loosing most the pencil by breaking tips whilst sharpening and it's a lot less messy. Currently the product photo shown above is wrong, the paper wrap pencils are black with a yellow tip - not a big problem I know but it's nice to know what you are getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait, 9 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Day's War (MP3 Download)
This album has been a long time coming but sitting on it for a couple of years has obviously worked for them, it represents well played, well written British rock. Their music is created with live performance in mind and it goes without saying that they're a great live band too. Buy this then go and see them on tour!.

The Little Book of Vuillard (The Little Book Series)
The Little Book of Vuillard (The Little Book Series)

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars might be fairer, 16 April 2014

This is an adequate introduction to Vuillard's work but it certainly could be better. The title makes no secret of it being a small book so I wasn't expecting much in terms of reproductions but on the whole the paintings are clear despite their size. My main problem is with the format of the monograph, each keyword - such as Nabis, Symbolism, Bonnard etc is asterisked every time they appear in the book, you are then supposed to look them up in more detail in the alphabetical guide. This soon gets annoying/confusing when the keywords are also asterisked within the alphabetical guide so you end up flicking backwards and forwards through the book trying to remember which bits you have already read.
The information seems good, it's just hard work getting it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the images, 3 stars for the layout, 27 Feb. 2014

This review is from: Van Eyck in Detail (Hardcover)
This is a great way to show the work of Van Eyck, he was after all a miniturist who worked full size so most books don't do justice to his incredible skill as a painter. It actually offers an opportunity to see the works in better detail than you would if you saw them in person, I have never seen the Ghent alterpiece close up but I'm fairly sure it's not possible to stand a few inches away from it and take in every brush stroke like you can here.
There are a few downsides here though as Crooklock points out, although the accompanying text is mostly interesting and well researched it has not been translated very well and the use of hyphens is often bizarre such as ' high-quality ' and ' un-representable '. The layout of the book is also frustrating, it is seperated into themes such as The Divine, Humankind and Nature so details from each painting are spread all through the book in a random manner which makes it difficult to get sense of the whole picture.
It's still worth the money for the genius of the art though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, 15 Feb. 2014
This review is from: Peppa Pig Bathtime Boat (Toy)
Like just about every toddler my daughter loves Peppa Pig and I have to admit the cartoons are great fun. So when her birthday came around we thought this would be great for bath time fun, she does seem to like it but it's just a bit awkward to play with - the boat rolls a lot and the characters don't stay in place. From a parents point of view I expected better quality when paying a lot for is essentially a few bits of plastic, our boat has glue splashes all over it and the painting is far from accurate as well. I also don't see why only the bell moves when the boat has a propellor, a ships wheel, a flag and an acceleration lever. Disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average sketchbooks, 29 Dec. 2013
I don't suppose a book called Average sketchbooks would sell particularly well but I personally can't see much here that I would call extraordinary. A lot of the examples given are by art students and only a couple of the professional artists chosen here have really good sketchbooks. Disappointing.

These jeans are good quality for the money but are tighter and shorter than any of my other jeans which are sized the same. They do relax after wear due to the stretch but are still about an inch too narrow in the waist.

4.0 out of 5 stars A better self portrait, 30 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've always enjoyed the warm cosy Dylan of Nashville Skyline, New Morning and the few tracks recorded for More Greatest hits but I never have had much time for Self Portrait which sits right in the middle of those albums. As a result this comes as a bit of a revelation - there was a decent version of Self Portrait hiding all along. Some of the tracks here such as Pretty Saro and Spanish Is The Loving Tongue really are lovely and pretty much everything here is an improvement on Self Portrait - even the cover art, which is still awful but not as awful as the other one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical landscapes, 8 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a lovely book, filled with beautiful examples of symbolist landscapes. What particularly impressed me was the amount of work by lesser known artists here, although some big names such as Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Munch and Klimt are here they in no way dominate this book. The whole book is packed with great paintings by artists I have never come across in many years of art appreciation and it's not often I feel a book has shown me something totally new.

1.0 out of 5 stars Magazine giveaway, 8 Feb. 2013
This review is from: Jack White's Blues (MP3 Download)
The music here is mostly great but this was initially given away with the May 2012 issue of Uncut magazine. You might as well seek out a second hand copy of the magazine because it will probably be cheaper than this download option.
