4.0 out of 5 stars A nice little package., 20 Aug 2012

There has been some mixed revues about this and some of the other Woodstock sets but I must say that I did really enjoy this from Janis, with worts an all!
I guess most people will be buying this mainly for the live Woodstock disc. I do not think it disapoints. Sure, this may not be her best but it is an honest, soul bearing, gutsy performance and slots nicely amonst those other famous Woodstock performances by so many other artists that, I think, seem to ooze something a little bit special, whether it's something to do with the occasion, the equipment used, the sound engineers or something in the water at the time.
The accompanying studio album may not be the best of her studio albums but you can sense the transition of where she is at and it gives you an indication of what she was like at the time of the Woodstock Festival.
There is some great playing by some great musicians on both discs, packaged rather nicely and a worth while addition to any collection.
It would be nice if there were some more additional Woodstock releases, to the five or six that already exist, to build up a bigger collection of that momentous occasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy !, 26 April 2012

This was a real pleasant surprise. Not so much a surprise because it's good, I hoped it was going to be, and I wasn't dissapointed. More of a surprise because of the content. I'm a big fan of CSN&Y and love the songs that they've penned, collectively and seperately. But, I just didn't realise how much of an input David Crosby had really put into his contribution in writing the most well known of their songs. All the great classic cuts are here, and they are fantastic versions, with some lovely musicianship. A really great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Berkeley 1st Show, 7 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great to have this as the companion to the official 2nd show release from a couple of years back. Yes, some individual tracks have already seen the light of day over the years, most noticably the classic Johnny B. Goode and the definative Hear My Train a Comin', but it's great to have them all together as one set. I believe only Star Spangled Banner and Purple Haze have been omitted, and that's probably due to the running time of the hole show not being able to fit onto the one disc but it's good that this disc has had other songs included instead, like Ezy Rider and Freedom. Although not an official release, the sound quality is remarkably good. You could play the 1st & 2nd show back to back and have a fantastic night of Jimi playing a whole host of different songs from his repatoire with some fantastic playing besides. Such a shame the dvd will never be re-released in full to accompany the shows cd releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Play it again, Eric., 1 Dec 2010

I was really surprised at how good this concert sounded. Caught the abridged version on the BBC and had to get a copy for the collection. To many people that i've met over the years Clapton's glory days go back to the sixties and early seventies and anything after 1980 is not worth listening to. I know these two guys have had a long admiration toward each other and maybe the timings may not of been right before and things may not have worked out 100% before and maybe that's why they were both keen to give things a go again. Sure glad they did, though. There seems to be an attack of guitar playing from Eric that some people will say has been lacking from his playing over the years. Maybe playing with Steve again has brought that out of him. Maybe he's enjoying strolling back down memory lane, what with the recent Cream refomation as well. He's not getting any younger, you know! Steve Winwwood's guitar playing is not to be doubted either. I always knew him for his keyboard playing and will certainly check out more of his back catalogue after hearing him play now. Stand out tracks for me here surprisingly are Voodoo Chile and Little Wing. There is real sensitivity, passion and feel to these songs. They almost don't want to stop - just keep playing and playing.

Wow, an awful lot of Jimi here to listen to. Probably more for the die hard fans. I'm one of those that can listen to Jimi over and over and hear different things again and again.
For the most part, allot of what you hear may not sound any different from other versions on other collections but there are subtle differences, albeit different mixes, different panning, different fazing/fading, different takes, etc, etc.
One or two songs of ropey quality but the vast majority seem very good. What makes this set a real pleasure are the few stand out tracks, that i've not come accross before, that other reviews have also mentioned, that are truly exquisit. Real gems. Jimi just playing and doing what he does best. A magnificent musician and guitarist.
What I really need is to have some quality time to myself, with absolutely no interuptions, and just sit and listen and listen and listen to truly appreciate this collection. Trouble is I'm now getting excited about the new box set West Coast Seattle Boy. May have to wait a little longer for that now.

What a gem this is. I caught this either on Sky Arts or BBC4 and was gobsmacked at how wonderful this gig was. Went to order the cd the next day and to great surprise was chuffed to find that the cd was accompanied by the dvd, at a very reasonable price. These guys are no spring chickens anymore but boy, can they still all play wonderful music. Fantastic !

Great to hear this album again, and on cd. Last heard this many moons ago when I could still play my vinyl collection. Will endeavour to replace my other 70's Rod albums also.

Had a bit of a problem receiving this item initially but Amazon were great to send a replacement.
Like many other BBC Sesions now available, by various artists, this shows how bands sound in a live setting without overdubs, etc. The recording quality may sound a bit dated but the quality of the music is fantastic. These guys really cook and when you consider that some of these tracks were recorded in 1966, when I wasn't born, it does give goose bumbs. Great value for money as well!

Really enjoyed this DVD. Although visually, this is more of a collage of film put to the music. Some on stage, some back stage, some on the road, etc. The music is really great. Great value for money.

I'm quite new to this guy but after a chance listening became drawn to listen to some more material. I don't really know the history or the in's and out's of his life or politics but I think this is quite a nice listen. There are some good tunes here with some really, really good playing. A good addition to any collection.
