5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vocals!, 20 Dec 2007
This review is from: Apologize (Audio CD)
I've been listening to this all week after hearing it on the radio, and it really appeals to my musical tastes: a classical-orchestral mix with a pop-rock beat. It's also vocally brilliant in my opinion. The lead singer Ryan Tedder possesses a soothing voice and a powerful range and he's created a melody that combines the two well; it seems a lot of music these days is pretty generic in that respect.

Their debut album "Dreaming Out Loud" is next on the list. I'm glad to have found them; they're a joy to listen to.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny little movie, 24 Nov 2007
Watched this movie a couple of months ago and it seems far more scarier on the cover than it actually is. That was a little disappointing but being interested in mythology, it was fairly obvious from the start that the writers had some knowledge of the hero archetype. They even named the main character "Fool", a young kid on a mission to rescue a damsel in distress imprisoned in a house.

Traversing the labyrinth of secret hallways and chambers, he succeeds in freeing her, defeats the abusive bad guys and gets the girl and the gold at the end! It wraps up nicely, but not something you'd want to watch for a good scare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and thought provoking movie!, 24 Nov 2007
A really interesting movie which follows the life of a man named Truman Burbank, played by Jim Carey. Born into a reality television show, he grows up unknowing that every single person in the little town he lives in is an actor. Every single movement and conversation has been scripted, and every thing surrounding his life is filmed and broadcast as part of a show in the "real world".

It follows the standard Hero archetype - which is covered in depth by the American mythology professor, writer and orator, Joseph Campbell - of a human being born into a life of illusion and ignorance who comes to suspect that there is something wrong about his world. He develops a burning curiosity and insight and begins to see through the deception and removes the wool that has been pulled over his eyes for so long. It's a heartwarming film, with a balanced mixture of comedy, romance and a tragic awakening towards the end.

Not only does it deal with the potential horrors that may lie in an industry bent on transmitting - for entertainment - so called "reality television", but is actually a stunning metaphor and portrayal of the drama that lies in wait for every human being.

Should be watched hand in hand with the Matrix. Very thought provoking indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Read, 4 Nov 2007
This was a really shocking book to read and taking a look at the figures Stout presents - one in twenty five people are sociopathic - it really boggles the mind that this knowledge isn't incorporated into our educational system! Nobody really and truly knows about it, or talks about it seriously for what it is: a constant lurking presence that could enter a normal person's life at any moment. And because we're not aware about it in a very in-depth way, how are we ever going to deal with it effectively?

That's why this book is a must read for everyone with a conscience, and it's certainly a subject that has received far too little attention. One wonders, is that intentional?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but now faulty, 3 Nov 2007
Worked fine for about a year, but then the alarm on/off switch started playing up - it's now flimsy and comes off easily - and the led light for it stopped working. It could just be a slightly faulty model and it's good generally considering the price.
