Details disrupt, 31 Jan 2012
This is a great book, don't get me wrong, but I was thrown by a few of the details which, to me, seemed wrong.
Nick is 2 years younger than me so he in recalling his youth he is talking about a Cambridge I knew well. He says - as a 13 year old - that nobody in East Anglia could be bothered to be a mod. Well in 1973, nobody was a mod anywhere - was a youth tribe that thrived 10 years earlier in Cambridge as much as anywhere, my brothers picture dressed as a (just post) mod was in the window of A Cambridge photographers still in 1973 for all to see. He is bang on with hairies and soul loving smoothies though.
Only a little thing but it bugged me when so many other details are so well and accurately rendered. Please don't let my pedantry spoil your enjoyment of this excellent book - it won't unless you were born in Cambridge in the 50's.
