5.0 out of 5 stars Good product! Great value!, 21 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This notebook is built to the high standard you would expect of HP. It was purchased for an elderly relative who hasn't had much experience with computers. The modern Windows 8 Metro interface was too complex for him so we tweaked the operating system to boot directly to the Desktop and placed shortcuts there to enable him to easily access the internet, email and Skype. Because he was a bit clumsy with the touchscreen and touchpad we also bought him an HP wireless USB mouseHP X4000 Wireless Mouse with Laser Sensor - Ruby Red which he is very pleased with.
He is using the notebook regularly, and accessing Skype and the internet has opened up a whole new world for him. At 96 years old he says we are dragging him into the 21st Century!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good case for under £20., 18 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this from Amazon when the price was below £20. I was building a micro ATX system for a friend and this case came complete with a Power Supply Unit and was definitely good value for money at that price. Yes, as others have mentioned the construction is a little on the flimsy side, but it still does the job well enough. Not sure that I would pay near £40 for it though as there are plenty of other cases priced well below this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good velcro ties., 18 Feb 2013

Tidying up computer cables is made a lot easier. Being able to cut off the length you actually require comes in really handy. The girlfriend also used some to secure her rolled up yoga mat.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oversized groove design flaw!, 5 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The keyboard itself is well made, works well, looks good, and doubles as a case using a rather flimsy clip mechanism.

However I do not think that this product was specifically made for the Galaxy Note 10.1 because of the oversized groove in which the tablet sits.

The disappointing oversized groove is 15mm wide. The Galaxy Note 10.1 at the bottom where it sits in the groove is about 6mm. This means that the tablet slides forward in the groove and is not properly supported by the tiny upstand at the back.

This makes it unstable and means that the keyboard has to be used on a completely flat surface to stop the tablet falling over.

As a temporary measure and experiment I have inserted a few blobs of blutack at the front of the oversized groove to ensure the tablet has greater contact with the upstand on the back. This has definitely helped with the stability but looks really awful.

To conclude it's a great pity about the badly designed oversized groove as this would be an excellent 5* product otherwise. (Reading other reviews it seems that all these keyboards have the same problem so I've decided to keep it as I need it for an upcoming trip.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent SSD, 19 Sep 2012

This is an excellent 256Gb SSD for the price, especially with the £20 cashback. Installed easily and used Macrium Reflect free version to clone existing SSD boot drive. This worked smoothly, boot times and program loading times improved...and much more free space for the future. Recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange clicking/screeching/chirping noise, 23 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thought excessively noisy hard drives were a thing of the past.

I have been building computers for myself family and friends for around 15 years. During which time I have installed dozens of hard drives from the major manufacturers.

This particular 2Tb drive ST2000DM001 is purely for storing data. It arrived 2 weeks ago well packaged and seemed fine. It installed easily as expected and was noticeably faster than my old Samsung drive. But then it started making this strange kind of click/screeching/chirping noise.

I have never had a brand new drive that makes this kind of irritating noise before. At first it only happened a couple of times when the computer was initially booted. But since then it seems to do it randomly throughout the day and far too often for my liking.

I downloaded Seatools to test the drive and the program says the drive passed. That might be technically correct, but I also remember the infamous IBM "click of death" fiasco which saw many hard drives failing a few years ago.

The noise it makes can be found on youtube just search for "Seagate ST2000DM001 noise" but mine is much louder than the one in the video. Others are also complaining on Seagate's own forums, so it's not an isolated problem.

I have ordered a Western Digital from Amazon to replace this drive.

If you are thinking of getting this drive yourself I'd recommend you check online first to see if Seagate have sorted out this noise problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 6 Sep 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mafia II (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
Like many others I bought and played the original Mafia game back in 2002/3 and thought it was brilliant. The storyline in particular was very good. The game contained 20 Chapters. There were lots of side missions and you could also hop onto the trains and trams to explore the city. Graphics for the time were spectacular. The game included music from the 20s and 30s and was a genuinely classic game.

I eagerly awaited the release of Mafia 2 hoping that this second installment from 2K would contain everything that the first game had...and perhaps more. Sadly this has proved not to be the case. 15 moderate chapters with no side missions and nor can you access the public transport. It is a severely cut down version of what it could have and should have been.

Yes the graphics are fine with lots of detail but the fairly repetitive game playing experience barely last 10 hours. It seems that 2K have lost the plot and instead of offering a genuinely good product at a decent price are now more concerned with the revenue generation that the upcoming DLC will potentially provide. I for one will not purchase any addons. Nor will I recommend Mafia 2 to anyone. Overall I'm very disappointed with this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as described!, 13 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this mat as a birthday present believing that it was 275cm long and 61cm wide as per the description. (This is 9ft long and 2ft wide in "old money") What I received was a flimsy mat overall size approximately 180cm long and 30cm wide. (6ft by 1ft) Very disappointing. The mat has now been returned. The description is evidently wrong.
