2.0 out of 5 stars Tired..., 6 Sep 2005
The problem i've always had with Status Quo is the fact that nearly every song sounds the same. It's the same two-stroke riff in all the songs, and quite franly I don't think they have much talent. I mean, where are all the guitar solos??? The interesting drumming patterns and lyrics. Al we seem to have here are tired, tired old guitar riffs and limited singing styles.
Could this be the end of the not-so-brilliant Status Quo???

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic..., 6 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Best Of (Audio CD)
Ok, so they're not Iron Maiden...but Motorhead will always be THE classic heavy metal band of the 80's (or preferably the 70's). There's just something about Lemmy's vocals which excite me and make me want to carry on listening (or in other words, headbanging) and the fast drumming and hard riffs.
In my opinion, they are the greatest biker band ever...sorry Judas Priest, you get second place!
Best tracks include Ace of Spades and No Class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sequel!, 3 Sep 2005
This review is from: Halloween II [DVD] (DVD)
This film is set on the same night of the original movie. Jamie-lee-curtis is taken to hospital to be treated for her wounds after beeing attacked by Michael Myers in the first movie. However Michael is not dead and comes to the hospital to finish her off...as well as about 50 other people!!!
There is some gore although not loads of it. Friday 13th is better at that. It's suprisingly menacing, but not scary. The creepy music is still here, and Michael couldn't be freakier!
A great sequel!

3.0 out of 5 stars Halloween is far superior...., 3 Sep 2005
This review is from: Friday The 13th [DVD] [1980] (DVD)
I don't want to make out that this is some sort of cheap ripp off from the John Carpenter classic, Halloween, however there are some pointers which suggest this may dissapoint some horror fans.
Usually i'd say it's not just about the gore and violence, but with this film...it is. So i'll get straight to it. There is gore...loads of it. The killings are adventurous at most times, yet there seems to still be some of the boring old 'knife in the stomach' slayings which get repetitive at the best of times. But there are some nice ones in there too. Graphic? Yes, mostly, although 'the killer' is rarely seen and is simply portrayed as a shadow or hand.
Scary? No, not at all. There seems to be no menacing music or soundtrack, unlike Halloween, which had quite a freaky piano playing in the background. Perhaps the silence is scarier that a soundtrack? Sometimes, yet I can't help thinking the movie is missing something.
Another fatal mistake is that the characters who are slayed either at the beginning or end, never seem to build up any sort of relationship with the viewer, therfore you end up not caring whether they live or die, and I was happy to see all the b******s get knifed by the end of the movie. I prefer to have some sort of feelings towards the victims before they get ripped apart, (Whether they are attractive women or not!) it makes things more exciting.

Generally, it a fun movie. There is plenty of violence (considerably more so then in Halloween) and squirting gore and blood, ut don't expect something intellegently scary or menacing, cos all your gonna get is a no holds bared messy gorefest slaughter slasher movie....enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gorefest for the mind..., 1 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Last Hunter [DVD] (DVD)
The last Hunter is basically a low budget gorefest portrayal of the vietnam war. Platoon and Apocalypse Now were some of the most famous vietnam war movies to grace our screens, not to mention the Ultra- violent Stanley kubrick adaptation in the 80's, Full Metal jacket.
The Last Hunter is all three combined, but on a smaller scale. In a way this seems more personal and projects the viewer into a sort of 'you are there' trance, which works to it's advantage.
The effects are decent enough for a movie that's over 25 years old, and some of the explosions make for impressive viewing. However there's not only bombs, but anything from guns to machettes, which can, at times, make for an unpleasent experience.
But 2 stars must be knocked off for the simple fact that the acting isn't A* standard, and the quality of the picture and sound, can at times, be rather poor. Not to mention the editing.

INVADERS-
This opening song starts off brilliantly, the riffs are amazing, the drumming fast as usual and the whole thing sounds like it's been recorded on a rollercoaster. However I don't like the lyrics much. 8/10
CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED-
This is one of my least favourite tracks, mainly because it's rather slow and cannot really be classed a heavy metal. 6/10
THE PRISONER-
This is one of my favourite tracks. It's got loads of catchy guitar riffs from Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, fast paced druming from Clive Burr and nice vocals. 10/10
22 ACACIA AVENUE-
Another very enjoyable song. I don't know why it's called '22 ACACIA AVENUE' but i'm sure there's a reason. 9/10
THE NUMBER OF THE BEST-
Perhaps their most famous song??? I think so. Fast and heavy drumming and the lyrics are brilliant!!! 10/10
RUN TO THE HILLS-
This is perhaps my favourite of all their songs! Some say that it's over rated, maybe it is, but it's still darn good! The lyrics are great, you'll be singing it all day. Super fast at it's best, nice guitar riffs and even solos... a great song! 10/10
GANGLAND-
I don't hate this song, but I can't say i like it much either. Avergae maiden. 5/10
TOTAL ECLIPSE-
A slower song then the rest, nicley paced with some good lyrics. The guitar riffs are impressive too. 8/10
HALLOWED BY THY NAMED-
Too long! Lasting just over 7 minutes it's a good song but should have been kept to about 3.50 minutes like most of the others. 6/10

2.0 out of 5 stars Watchable...perhaps once., 29 Aug 2005
Do we really need a DVD of this??? I mean it's great watchin' it on tv, however once you've seen an episode more then twice it gets pretty boring, repetitive and yo'll get completly sick of seeing Xzibit's cheeky little face.
So my advice is turn on MTV and watch this show on there. Cos your gonna get bored.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice...very nice!, 27 Aug 2005
This review is from: Carlito's Way [DVD] [1994] (DVD)
If you've enjoyed the likes of Scarface, Goodfellas and Casino, then this is definatley worth your time. The movie is never slow and sloppy, which certainly helps retain any of those 'I think i'll just go and put a pizza in the oven' moments. Al Pacino plays Carlito, a former mobster and drug lord out of prison and ready to turn around his life and ditch his gangster buddies. If life were only that simple. Soon, he ends up in trouble no thanks to his lawyer who is played by Sean Penn. The film builds up with lightning speed and leads to a furious climax in which all hell breaks lose, with Carlito on the run from a group of notorious mafioso's out to kill him.
A violent tale of life in the mafia.

2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get into it..., 26 Aug 2005
This review is from: Romper Stomper [DVD] (DVD)
I stayed up to watch this movie one night, and simply couldn't keep my eyes open. I don't know whether it was because I was tired, or if it was because the film was boring...I guess it was a bit of both.
It's a total bloodbath from begining to end. I'm not dissing that because I like violence in movies, however not when it's gratuitus. This was...very. I found the characters dull and lifeless, having no sympathy for any of them and not giving a lying toss whether they died or lived or got called naughty names.
So why 2 stars? Because it was a good try, and could have been a good film. Sadly, the only people who give this 5 stars fancy Russel crowe.

4.0 out of 5 stars An under-rated classic...., 25 Aug 2005
This movie should have had a special edition release 10 years ago on it's outing, it's brilliant! I was captivated from start to finish, and wanted to watch it again straight away after it finished. At points I thought I was watching the sequel to Goodellas as the two movies are so simialar. Ok, so Goodfellas scores higher, mainly because it's alittle darker and grittier, however both movies gain points in my books for the violence...it's basically gore galore from begining to end! (Watch the end killing of Joe Pesci, truly shocking stuff!)
But gangsters killing gangsters isn't all what makes this movie good, it's the script and storyline. Pesci is sooooo good at playing the psyhco mafia boss who will start a fight with anyone no matter how big they are. I really would like to show a few examples of the quotations from the movie however i don't think amazon allows excessive profanity.
As for the storyline, I don't really want to spoil it. So let me just put it this way. At the height of fortune, you have the money, the jewels, the women and the guns...and your living it up like there's no tomorow. But when tomorow comes, no one stays at the top forever...
