Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragons Unleashed
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragons Unleashed
by Savannah Broadway
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought you knew dragons?, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Brings to life a number of Golarion's most interesting Dragons in a way which makes it easy for a GM to build a campaign around them. It successfully creates dragons who recognizably are red or brass dragons but also have real and unique characters that encourage interaction as well as slaying! As usual with the campaign setting it is more about inspiration than ready made adventures but an experienced GM should have little difficulty in creating a quick ad hoc adventure from the material presented, especially given the details given of each dragon's lair.

Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide To Darkmoon Vale (Pathfinder Chronicles Supplement)
Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide To Darkmoon Vale (Pathfinder Chronicles Supplement)

Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A ready made region to base a campaign in, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This brings quite a large region of Andoran to life with real character, a region which is an ideal base of operations for an adventuring company to grow and develop in, with challenges of differing levels. The towns, communities, locations and people are brought to life and there are a wealth of adventure hooks to inspire the GM - although those looking for ready made adventures will be disappointed - some work is required even if an experienced GM should be able to throw together an ad hoc quickly from the material presented. The reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is the quality of the maps. The large poster map does not include all of the locations and the partial maps in the book can be difficult to locate demanding some work by the GM to orient themselves. GMs may want to make characters pore over confusing old maps - but few want to have to go through the same process themselves to set a session up!

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Mystery Monsters Revisited by Pryor, Anthony ( AUTHOR ) Dec-04-2012 Game
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Mystery Monsters Revisited by Pryor, Anthony ( AUTHOR ) Dec-04-2012 Game
by Anthony Pryor
Edition: Game

4.0 out of 5 stars Breath life into monstrous mysteries, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is really useful in bringing some of the classic 'mystery' monsters - the chupacabra, sasquatch, yeti and so on to life. It generally does so with Paizo's usual quality, the tips on creating an air of mystery and fear for such well known creatures being particularly useful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the nature of mystery monsters - especially as they are presented in the book is such that they are a bit 'one shot'. Once they have been used it becomes exponentially more difficult to have the same impact on your players again. Still, if you like a challenge!

Pathfinder Chronicles: Classic Monsters Revisited (Pathfinder Chronicles Supplement)
Pathfinder Chronicles: Classic Monsters Revisited (Pathfinder Chronicles Supplement)

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just cannon fodder, 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pathfinder's reimagining of the goblin kickstarted renewed imagination about classic monsters in gaming and this does the same for most of the other favourite 'cannon fodder' monsters that can sometimes be taken for granted, generally very successfully. I particularly liked the way the bugbear was brought to life. The only reasons that I have given it 4 instead of 5 stars is that I felt the sections on the monsters in Golarion were a bit perfunctory. This was particularly true for the hobgoblin, the only monster I felt didn't really work - particularly in the context of Golarion. Whilst the organised, militaristic hobgoblin makes sense in itself, such a race would surely build some kind of realm or realms of their own and the only place they do so in Golarion is the Dragon Empires. Therefore, they didn't really convince. Otherwise the book very successfully gives real flavour to old favourites and reminds you why you loved them in the first place.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Undead Unleashed
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Undead Unleashed
by Adam Daigle
Edition: Paperback
Price: £13.48

5.0 out of 5 stars Pathfinder's usual quality., 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The usual high quality, imagination and creativity from Pathfinder, really breathing life into the example undead created. Although they are not modules, there is enough material on each undead for an experienced GM to improvise an adventure on the fly relatively easily but the real strength of this book lies in building campaigns with these beautifully developed undead at their heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of classes full of the usual paizo character, 15 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These classes will give real flavour to your Golarion based gaming, whilst being easily adaptable to other settings. This is particularly impressive as, if I have a criticism, it is that I would have liked to have seen more of an emphasis on developing and exploring the backgrounds of the classes and less on game mechanics.

Justified - Season 2 [DVD]
Justified - Season 2 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Timothy Olyphant
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than series one., 10 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Justified - Season 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Few and far between are the series with stunning first seasons that mature and improve with age, but Justified has managed it. It evokes its place well with even the minor characters well drawn and three dimensional. Justified series 1 and 2 (and 3 and hopefully 4 etc) really should be your next box sets.

This Time We Win: Revisiting the Tet Offensive
This Time We Win: Revisiting the Tet Offensive

5.0 out of 5 stars Over 30 years after the key events, the Vietnam War is currently making the move from reportage to History., 10 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fierce debate is starting to rage about whether the war has been accurately described and explained up to this point. Given the exasperation of Robbins with the failure of the media, politicians and the people to engage with this debate and the lazy use of the "lessons" of Vietnam - especially analogies with Tet - in discussions of Iraq and Afghanistan, this book is timely. Although I would consider myself on the left (and way to the left of most Americans!), a long interest in the war has led me to believe that the dominant narrative about it - America losing because it couldn't cope with guerrilla tactics etc - is nonsense on a stick. The fact is that journalists don't get some things wrong. In their "first drafts" of History they tend to get almost everything wrong (and what they get right, right by accident). Given the fact that commentators grab for Vietnam analogies as soon as America (or any other country) goes to war, it really is time for actual historians to start a serious re-examination of the evidence. And this book is a good place to start.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Magic
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Magic
by Sean K Reynolds
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for both Golarion and other worlds., 10 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whilst some of this book is made up of the obligatory lists of spells, feats and items, the more valuable bits are on the more esoteric spellcasters found in the inner sea region. Helping to get away from the "Buy the numbers" routine of the standard arcane classes, these help create the kind of mysterious, alien and mistrusted magicians that populate fantasy literature and can easily be adapted to almost any setting

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Bestiary
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Bestiary

4.0 out of 5 stars Some really nice new monsters...., 10 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
...which offer hours of fun to the creative and devious GM and their victims (or players if you prefer). Some, but not all, of the creatures do give a real flavour of Golarion's inner sea region - with creatures like the Beasts of Rovagug fleshing out ideas from elsewhere. However, his isn't true of all contained within and - compared to the number of monsters found in the 3 bestiary volumes I might question whether this necessarily offers value for money by comparison.
