4.0 out of 5 stars FEW COMPLAINTS AT THE PRICE, 13 Feb 2013
FIRST THE NEGATIVES,SOME WELL KNOWN SONGS ARE MISSING,PAPER PLANE,BREAK THE RULES
AND WHAT YOU'RE PROPOSING AMONG THEM.CAROLINE AND RAIN ARE LIVE VERSIONS,NOT STUDIO
VERSIONS.SOME SONGS SEEM TO BE FADED OUT EARLY AND SOME OF THE SONGS ARE(IMHO)
PRETTY CRAP.THE POSITIVES,THE PRICE OBVIOUSLY,DECENT MASTERING MEANS THAT THE
COLLECTION IS VERY LISTENABLE AND CAN BE CRANKED PRETTY LOUD(IDEAL FOR LISTENING IN
THE CAR)I HAVE FOUND THAT ANY OF THE RECENT SPECTRUM COMPILATIONS I'VE BOUGHT(THIN
LIZZY AND FREE THE MOST RECENT)HAVE PRETTY DECENT SOUND QUALITY AND ARE NOT VICTIMS
OF THE DREADED LOUDNESS WARS THAT HAS RUINED MANY CDS BY MAJOR ARTISTS SINCE THE
NINETIES.IN DEFENCE OF THIS CD IT IS CALLED THE COLLECTION,NOT THE GREATEST HITS,OR
THE BEST OF STATUS QUO SO PERHAPS SOME MISSING SONGS CAN BE FORGIVEN.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXPANDED NOT DELUXE, 30 Jun 2011
UNLIKE THE OTHER RECENT BATCH OF THIN LIZZY REIISUES,BAD REPUTATION IS AN EXPANDED
EDITION, NOT A DELUXE ( TWO DISC EDITIONS)AND JUST A SINGLE DISC AND AS SUCH WAS
LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THE DELUXE EDITIONS.
THE FINE DEATAILS:
THE DISC I HAVE (ORDERED FROM AMAZON/INDIGO STARFISH)WAS MADE IN GERMANY(BY PDO?)
AND AS WITH THE DELUXE EDITIONS STATES ON THE CD BOOKLET THAT IT WAS REMASTERED IN
2010 BY ANDY PEARCE AND MATT WORTHAM AT WIRED MASTERS.TO THOSE OF US WHO ARE
INTERESTED IN SUCH THINGS,WE NOW KNOW THAT ON THE PREVIOUS DELUXE EDITIONS OF
JAILBREAK,JOHNNY THE FOX AND LIVE AND DANGEROUS TWO BAND MEMBERS ( PRESUMABLY
SCOTT GORHAM AND BRIAN DOWNEY)REJECTED THE 2010 REMASTERS IN FAVOUR OF SOME
REMASTERS FROM 2002 PRODUCED FOR DISCS RELEASED FOR THE JAPANESE MARKETS.I OWN ALL OF THESE DELUXE EDITIONS AND THE SOUND OF THESE REMASTERS IS VERY GOOD,THE FACT
THAT WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE(IT WAS PRINTED ON ALL OF THE CD BOOKLETS)THAT WE WERE
GETTING NEW 2010 REMASTERS WAS MISLEADING TO SAY THE LEAST,NOT TO MENTION THE
NUMEROUS OTHER MISTAKES WITH THE TRACKLISTINGS AND WITH THE LIVE AND DANGEROUS
RELEASE A DVD THAT WAS INFERIOR IN QUALITY TO THE ONE THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN ON
RELEASE.GETTING BACK TO THIS RELEASE OF BAD REPUTATION,WHAT DO YOU GET FOR YOUR
MONEY ? THE ORIGINAL ALBUM REMASTERED ( IN 2010 ? THIS REMAINS TO BE SEEN)WITH BONUS TRACKS ALSO REMASTERED COMPRISING FIVE OF THE TRACKS FROM THE ALBUM FROM BBC
SESSIONS MADE IN AUGUST 1977 A MONTH BEFORE THE ALBUM'S RELEASE.FOUR OF THESE BBC
SESSIONS WERE RELEASED PREVIOUSLY ON THE PEEL SESSIONS CD WHICH IS NOW OUT OF
PRINT.THE FIFTH TRACK FROM THESE SESSIONS IS DOWNTOWN SUNDOWN.THE SIXTH BONUS TRACK IS A LIVE VERSION OF ME AND THE BOYS.THE BBC SESSIONS ARE OUTSTANDING AND FOR ME,WORTH THE PRICE OF THE DISC ON THEIR OWN(ME AND THE BOYS IS NON ESSENTIAL)AS WITH ALL OF THE TRACKS FROM THE BBC SESSIONS MADE AVAILABLE ON THE SECOND DISC OF BOTH JOHNNY THE FOX AND JAILBREAK,THE SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND THE PERFORMANCES BY THE BAND ARE OUTSTANDING.YOU GET A BOOKLET WITH SOME NICE PHOTOS OF THE BAND(BLACK AND WHITE AND COLOUR)AND AN ESSAY ABOUT THE MAKING OF THE BAD REPUTAION ALBUM,ALTHOUGH AT FIRST GLANCE,I CAN'T SEE WHO WROTE IT.ANOTHER DIFFERENCE FROM THE PREVIOUS DELUXE EDITIONS,SCOTT GORHAM,JOE ELLOTT AND RONAN MCHUGH HAVE NOT DONE ANY RE-RECORDING/REMIXING AND IS NONE THE WORSE FOR THAT.THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE THIN LIZZY ALBUM AND WHEN I PUT IT ON AND WHACK UP THE VOLUME (BOTH IN THE CAR AND AT HOME)IT BRINGS A SMILE TO MY FACE.THE REMASTERING HAS REALLY MADE MY APPRECIATE THE BRILLIANCE OF THE BAND AND IN PARTICULAR BRIAN DOWNEY'S DRUMMING.BAD REPUTATION WAS RECORDED AS A THREE PIECE,ALTHOUGH PHIL LYNOTT DID ASK BRIAN ROBERTSON TO OVERDUB GUITAR ON SOME OF THE TRACKS.THE ALBUM COVER ( WHICH UNLIKE PREVIOUS COVERS WAS NOT BY JIM FITZPATRICK) FEATURES JUST LYNOTT/DOWNEY AND GORHAM,MANY OF THE TRACKS FROM BAD REPUATION FEATURED IN THE BAND'S LIVE SET (BAD REPUTATION,OPIUM TRAIL,SOUTHBOUND AND DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT BEING THE BEST KNOWN.THIS REISSUE IS VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST OF LIZZY AT A BARGAIN PRICE, 29 Jun 2011
I PICKED THIS UP FOR THREE POUNDS !!! IN ASDA OF ALL PLACES,BUT I WOULD STILL HAVE
BEEN PLEASED WITH THIS COLLECTION AT FOUR TIMES THE PRICE.SO WHAT DO YOU GET FOR
YOUR MONEY ? 20 TRACKS WHICH COVER THEIR CAREER FROM THEIR EARLY DAYS AS A THREE
PIECE TO THEIR FINAL LINE UP WITH JOHNSYKES ON GUITAR.YOU GET TO HEAR MOST OF THE
GUITAR PLAYERS THAT PLAYED FOR LIZZY THROUGHOUT THEIR CAREER (ERIC BELL,BRIAN
ROBERTSON,GARY MOORE,SNOWY WHITE,JOHN SYKES AND THE EVER PRESENT SCOTT GORHAM)YOU
GET A VERY GOOD BOOKLET WITH PLENTY OF PICTURES OF THE BAND AND LINER NOTES BY
MALCOLM DOME OF KERRANG.I MUST MAKE SPECIAL MENTION OF THE SOUND QUALITY,IT IS
EXCELLENT THROUGHOUT,THE LINER NOTES STATE THAT MATERPIECE MASTERING WERE
RESPONSIBLE AND THEY DESERVE A LOT OF CREDIT.I HAVE A WEST GERMAN PRESSING OF THE
LIZZY KILLERS COMPILATION WHICH SOUNDS FANTASTIC,THIS COMPILATION IS EASILY IN THE
SAME CLASS(JUST LISTEN TO DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT AT HIGH VOLUME-WOW !!!)TO SUM UP
THE ONLY THING CHEAP IS THE PRICE.THIS IS AN EXCELLENT COMPILATION FOR LISTENING TO IN THE CAR.JUST A FEW SMALL NIGGLES,STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU IS THE STUDIO VERSION,NOT THE DEFINITIVE LIVE VERSION FROM LIVE AND DANGEROUS,WHISKEY IN THE JAR
APPEARS TO BE THE EDITED SINGLE VERSION,NOT THE FULL LENGTH VERSION AVAILABLE
ELSEWHERE.WELL DONE TO SPECTRUM MUSIC WHO ARE THE PEOPLE BEHIND THIS RELEASE.I HAVE PURCHASED SOME OF THEIR OTHER ROCK COMPILATIONS RECENTLY (RAINBOW/DIO AND RUSH)ALL OF WHICH I WOULD RECOMMEND,BUT AS A HUGE LIZZY FAN,THIS THIN LIZZY COMPILATION IS THE PICK OF THE BUNCH.

3.0 out of 5 stars BE AWARE!! NOT SO DELUXE, 27 Jun 2011
This review is from: Johnny The Fox (Audio CD)
THERE ARE NUMEROUS MISTAKES ON THE LATEST BATCH OF THIN LIZZY DELUXE EDITIONS,
JOHNNY THE FOX,JAILBREAK AND LIVE AND DANGEROUS.FIRSTLY THESE ARE ALL SUPPOSED
TO BE NEW REMASTERS,THEY ARE NOT ! BY DOING A BIT OF DETECTIVE WORK,I AM LED TO
BELIEVE THEY ARE REMASTERS FROM MATERIAL ISSUED FOR THE JAPANESE MARKET ALTHOUGH
WHETHER THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES WERE USED IS NOT CLEAR.SECONDLY THE TRACK
LISTINGS HAVE BEEN SCREWED UP.ON JOHNNY THE FOX TWO OF THE BONUS TRACKS SUPPOSED
TO BE BBC SESSIONS ARE SIMPLY ALBUM TRACKS THAT APPEAR ON DISC ONE.THIRD THE DVD
THAT COMES WITH THE LIVE AND DANGEROUS PACKAGE FEATURES MONO SOUND,NOT STEREO
WHICH IS WHAT THE SEPARATELY RELEASED LIVE AND DANGEROUS DVD FEATURES.I LOVE THIN
LIZZY AND LOVE THEIR MUSIC,BUT THE RECORD COMPANY HAVE SHOWN AN APALLING LACK OF
CARE OVER THESE REISSUES.I BELIEVE THE RECORD COMPANY HAS PROMISED TO CORRECT SOME OF THESE ERRORS ON FUTURE SHIPMENTS,BUT THE ISSUE OVER THE REMASTERING IS LIKELY
TO REMAIN UNCHANGED.THE MUSIC ON JOHNNY THE FOX IS FANTASTIC,BUT AS A PACKAGE I CAN ONLY AWARD THREE STARS DUE TO THE FAILINGS INDICATED ABOVE.I WOULD BE
INTERESTED TO HEAR AN EXPLANATION FROM THE RECORD COMPANY(UNIVERSAL)AS TO HOW THEY ALLOWED SUCH PRODUCT ONTO THE MARKET.A STICKER COULD HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE COVER STATING THAT THESE WERE NOT NEW REMASTERS,THAT ERRORS HAD BEEN MADE WITH THE
TRACKLISTING ETC.

One Night In Dublin: A Tribute To Phil Lynott [DVD] [2006]
One Night In Dublin: A Tribute To Phil Lynott [DVD] [2006]
Dvd ~ Gary Moore & Friends

5.0 out of 5 stars OLD FRIENDS REUNITED, 17 Nov 2009
THERE ARE SO MANY POOR QUALITY ROCK DVDS AVAILABLE(POOR SOUND AND PICTURE QUALITY)
WHITESNAKE LIVE IN JAPAN AND GARY MOORE'S THE MIDNIGHT BLUES BAND SPRING TO MIND,THAT I RARELY BUY THESE DISCS WITHOUT CHECKING THE REVIEWS ON AMAZON FIRST.
YOU NEED HAVE NO WORRIES ABOUT THIS DVD,UPSCALED THE PICTURE QUALITY IS FIRST RATE
AS IS SOUND QUALITY,ALTHOUGH NOT HAVING A SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM,I CAN'T COMMENT ON
THE SURROUND MIX.SO TO THE CONCERT ITSELF IT FEATURES A MIXTURE OF GARY MOORE SONGS
AND MANY OF THIN LIZZY"S BEST LOVED SONGS PLAYED BY A BAND CONSISTING OF MOORE,EX.
THIN LIZZY FOUNDING MEMBER BRIAN DOWNEY ON DRUMS(WHAT A SUPERB DRUMMER HE IS)AND
JETHRO TULL BASS PLAYER JONATHAN NOYCE,THIS BAND IS AUGMENTED BY A VARIETY OF PAST
LIZZY GUITARISTS ON SOME OF THE SONGS(BRIAN ROBERTSON,SCOTT GORHAM AND ERIC BELL)
NO SIGN OF SNOWY WHITE AT THIS GIG,ALTHOUGH HE ALWAYS LOOKED A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE AND
OUT OF PLACE IN THIN LIZZY.IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT ERIC BELL NOW LOOKS LIKE DAVID
SOUL'S LONG LOST BROTHER(NO ONE CAN PLAY WHISKEY IN THE JAR LIKE ERIC BELL,HE PLAYED GUITAR ON THE ORIGINAL RECORD)IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT NOYCE HAS NO CONNECTION TO THIN LIZZY THAT I KNOW OF AND LOOKS LIKE HE SHOULD BE IN THE STAFF ROOM OF THE
LOCAL COMPREHENSIVE THEY ALL PLAY THEIR PART IN MAKING THIS CONCERT SO EXCITING.AS
ANOTHER REVIEWER HAS COMMENTED THERE ARE SEVERAL MOMENTS DURING THE DVD WHEN THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF YOUR NECK STAND UP.IF YOU LOVED THIN LIZZY AS MUCH AS I DID(AND STILL DO)YOU MUST BUY THIS DVD(OR THE BLURAY VERSION).THE CROWD ARE CLEARLY HAVING A GREAT TIME AND SING ALONG ENTHUSIASTICALLY.GARY MOORE IS NOT A GREAT SINGER,BUT
THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT HIS ABILITY AS GUITARIST,AND DESPITE HIS PAST FALLING OUTS WITH PHIL LYNOTT,HE CLEARLY LOVED THE MAN AS HE PUTS HIS HEART AND SOUL INTO THIS GIG.YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE HIM AT THE END OF THE DVD,SHIRT SOAKED WITH SWEAT SINGING THE FIRST FEW LINES FROM PHIL'S SONG OLD TOWN,YOU JUST KNOW HOW MUCH HE MISSES LYNOTT AS WE ALL DO.A GREAT CONCERT IN PHIL'S HOMETOWN.PHIL WOULD HAVE LOVED IT !

This review is from: Cate Brothers (Audio CD)
ALL FOUR OF THE WOUNDED BIRD CATE BROTHERS CD REISSUES ARE WORTH OWNING,BUT FOR ME
THIS IS THE PICK OF THE BUNCH.ONE OF MANY GREAT AMERICAN ROCK BANDS WHO PRODUCED
SOME GREAT MUSIC IN THE 70'S BUT WERE LARGELY IGNORED IN THE UK.OTHER SIMILAR
BANDS ARE PLAYER,ORLEANS AND SANFORD TOWNSEND.THE CATE BROTHERS WROTE GREAT SONGS,
THEIR RECORDINGS FEATURED GREAT MUSICIANSHIP AND PASSIONATE VOCALS.A MIXTURE OF
ROCK,SOUL,COUNTRY AND BLUES, I WISH MORE PEOPLE COULD HEAR THIS MUSIC.FAVOURITE
SONG IS I JUST WANNA SING.NOT ONLY IS THE MUSIC SUPERB,THE CD COVER IS FANTASTIC
AS WELL.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars HAPPY MEMORIES, 9 Nov 2009
This review is from: Seventies Power Ballads (Audio CD)
AN INTERESTING BUT FAR FROM DEFINITIVE COLLECTION WHICH HAS SPENT A LOT OF TIME
IN MY CAR'S CD PLAYER AND HAS BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF HAPPY MEMORIES FOR ME.THE
PROBLEM WITH THIS SORT OF COMPILATION IS THAT IT CANNOT INCLUDE ARTISTS FROM OTHER
RECORD LABELS,HENCE THERE ARE MANY BANDS THAT ARE NOT FEATURED OVER THIS THREE DISC
COLLECTION I.E. NAZARETH,THIN LIZZY,ZZ TOP,LED ZEPPELIN,REO SPEEDWAGON,THE ALLMAN
BROTHERS AND SANTANA TO NAME BUT A FEW.SOME OF THE TRACKS ARE THE FULL LENGTH ALBUM
VERSIONS,NOT THE SHORTER AND MORE FAMILIAR SINGLE VERSIONS.THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT,
JUST AN OBSERVATION,OVERALL QUITE GOOD VALUE BUT SOME OF THE SONG SELECTIONS ARE A
LITTLE STRANGE.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOLID GOLD, 29 Oct 2009
This review is from: Rolled Gold (Audio CD)
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ROLLING STONES BEST OF COMPILATIONS AVAILABLE.THIS REMASTERED
DOUBLE CD IS ONE OF THE BEST,BUT IT CONCENTRATES ON THE EARLIER PART OF THEIR
CAREER.FOR A BROADER SPECTRUM OF THEIR MUSICAL OUTPUT(WHICH INCLUDES MORE OF THEIR
MORE RECENT TRACKS)I CAN RECOMMEND FORTY LICKS (ALSO A REMASTERED DOUBLE CD)
FOR THOSE OF US WHO STILL CARE ABOUT SOUND QUALITY, IT IS VERY GOOD AND HAS ALLOWED
ME TO HEAR LOTS OF LITTLE DETAILS I HAD PREVIOUSLY MISSED.BUT OF COURSE YOU WANT TO
KNOW IS THIS CD ANY GOOD.OF COURSE IT IS ! JUST LOOK AT THE TRACKLISTING(40 SONGS IN
TOTAL)PAINT IT BLACK,LETS SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER,RUBY TUESDAY,SATISFACTION,BROWN
SUGAR,HONKY TONK WOMEN ARE JUST SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS.GREAT CD FOR PLAYING IN THE
CAR(I GUARANTEE THAT LIKE ME,YOU'LL BE SINGING ALONG)OR FOR PUTTING ON YOUR IPOD.
JAGGER AND RICHARDS HAVE WRITTEN SOME FANTASTIC SONGS ALTHOUGH THEIR EARLIEST
RELEASES FEATURED COVER VERSIONS OF OTHER ARTIST'S SONGS(CHUCK BERRY WAS ONE WHO
FEATURED STRONGLY)I.E.CAROL WHICH IS ON DISC ONE OF ROLLED GOLD.BUY AND ENJOY.

5.0 out of 5 stars CELTIC ROCK AT IT'S BEST, 31 Aug 2009
IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE WORK OF HORSLIPS,THEN THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO
START.I HAVE JUST PICKED UP THE REMASTERED CD WITH BONUS LIVE TRACKS AT A GREAT
PRICE.HORSLIPS CDS HAVE BEEN HARD TO FIND IN THE SHOPS OR ONLINE,HAVING OWNED THE
VINYL VERSION FOR MANY YEARS,I AM DELIGHTED TO FINALLY OWN IT ON CD.AS OTHER
REVIEWERS HAVE STATED IT IS BEST TO LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE CD FROM START TO FINISH.
THIS RECORDING BLENDS TRADITIONAL INSTRUMENTS WITH THE USUAL ROCK INSTRUMENTS
(GUITARS,BASS,DRUMS,KEYBOARDS AND ON MANY OF THE TRACKS VOCALS).HERE IN
NORTHERN IRELAND HORSLIPS AS STILL HIGHLY REGARDED NOT LEAST FOR THE FACT THAT
DURING THE WORST OF THE TROUBLES,THEY WERE ONE OF THE FEW GROUPS BRAVE ENOUGH TO
PLAY GIGS IN BELFAST.I LOVE THE MUSIC ON THIS CD,THE BONUS LIVE TRACKS ARE WELL
WORTH HAVING AS THE BAND MANAGE TO RECREATE THE SOUND OF THE STUDIO RECORDING LIVE
ON STAGE.THE GROUP ARE DUE TO PLAY LIVE IN BELFAST BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR.
THIS CD IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED(I REFER TO THE REMASTERED VERSION WITH THE BONUS LIVE
TRACKS)

4.0 out of 5 stars MISLEADING TITLE, 7 July 2009
THIS IS HARDLY THE BEST OF GARY MOORE.THE REALITY IS THAT IT FEATURES
A MIXTURE OF TRACKS FROM MOORE'S TIME WITH JAZZ-ROCK OUTFIT COLOSSEUM 2
AND A SELECTION OF TRACKS FROM MOORE'S HARD TO FIND ON CD (AND EXPENSIVE)
SOLO RELEASE BACK ON THE STREETS.LIKE THIS SOLO ALBUM THE MIX OF STYLES
(JAZZ ROCK AND HARD ROCK )IS A BIT STRANGE.THE LINK BETWEEN ALL OF THESE
TRACKS IS THE QUALITY OF MOORE'S GUITAR PLAYING(OFTEN AT BREAKNECK SPEED ON THE JAZZ ROCK TRACKS)PERHAPS GUITAR PLAYERS WILL ENJOY THIS CD MORE
THAN THE REST OF US.I BOUGHT IT FOR THE TRACK LAMENT WHICH THE MUCH MISSED
JOHN PEEL PLAYED QUITE A LOT ON HIS LATE NIGHT RADIO SHOW MANY YEARS AGO.
THE CASUAL LISTENER OR NEWCOMER TO MOORES MUSIC WOULD DO BETTER TO SEEK
OUT ONE OF THE MANY COMPILATIONS AVAILABLE ON THIS SITE.
