Disturbing horror that stays with you, 10 Nov 2012
"Sinister", unlike films such as "Saw" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" manages to be tense and disturbing, without being gruesome or gory. It sets such a perfect atmosphere from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat, cowering behind your hands. I will very briefly explain the story: A writer moves his family into a new house which, unknown to the rest of the family, was the house where a whole family was murdered, bar one child who mysteriously disappeared. The writer then discovers 5 snuff films in his attic, and a whole new truth begins to uncover beyond what was thought possible... Now to review the actual film. This film is probably the most tense film I have ever watched. This is achieved by excellent camera work, amazing acting and a perfect use of sounds. When a specific tense moment is on, the sounds in the background are perfect, from what appears to be distorted heart beats to creaks and moans. The whole atmosphere is creepy and this is what makes the film so disturbing. Another large factor is the mind games the film seems to play. You never know when a certain "person" is going to pop up, and it actually made me fear any camera shot where the background was slightly blurry or it wasn't fully concentrated on one object. Even as I am typing this i'm looking over my shoulder. The actors in this film are simply fantastic. Ethan Hawke is amazing as the protagonist, and does a brilliant job of showing fear and terror, and Juliet Rylance, a largely unknown actor, plays an amazing role as his wife. The kids are acted very well too, and the officer is probably the only bit of "light heartedness" in the film, though it really isn't much. Now for the reason why it is 4 stars, and not 5. Well, to be honest, the ending is a bit of a let down. I won't ruin it, but i can think of better ways to end it, to make it more realistic. I know, not all films are realistic, but the rest of the movie could be believable, except the end. That being said, the rest of the film is enough to disturb and make you a little bit more weary when going into the attic or watched an 8mm (not that many people do). One more criticism, i'm usually not very good at predicting films, but i did manage to guess (to a certain extent) what would happen, and so did my mum, so its not just me who could. Besides the average ending, the rest of the film is tense and disturbing, even with the lack of gore, and i would recommend to someone who has lost faith in modern horrors, as it will raise your hopes again. 7.5/10

This will be the strangest FIFA review, 1 Oct 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
First things first, I haven't played FIFA 12, and i don't like football. I know how strange that sounds, rugby is my game, yet i have bought a football game. The last FIFA i played was 09 by the way. So, you're probably wondering why i would review and buy a game like this, but i think, even though i don't like football, my review will maybe be more helpful, based on the fact that i enjoy a game based on a sport i don't like. I think this can explain that the game is good, and i'm not biased because i love football. So, now to the actual game. FIFA has improved so much since the last time i played it in 09. It's become much more realistic, and the career mode has been drastically improved. Plus, before now i had never played FIFA online. Pros: - The dribbling system is fantastic. Holding L2 will keep the ball close to you, but you will run slower, and holding L2 and R2 will mean you can move 360 degrees round with it, very similar to FIFA street (which i did actually get, and hated). This makes you feel more in control of the play. - First touch. To my knowledge, this is new to FIFA 13 and wasn't included on 12. Basically, its more realistic and rather than perfectly controlling a ball, if it is a bad pass, the player may knock it forward a bit too much trying to control it. This may seem like a disadvantage, but in actual fact it isn't, as the opposition do the same. It makes you pass more tactically and think about what you're doing. - Scoring. Scoring is perfect, if you have an clear shot, you have to aim and not just kick, unlike you seemed to be able to do on the old games. - Tackling. I believe tackling was completely redone from FIFA 11 to FIFA 12. However, having not played either, the system is new to me. The tackler is much more realistic, rather than charging is as in previous games. You have to plan when to slide, and when to take the ball, otherwise you may miss or be carded. - Career mode. I have only played the manager version, not the player one, but it is so much better than the 09 one. The transfer market is much more realistic, and it actually feels like you are not only controlling the team, but the whole fanbase. You can even eventually manage international teams. - YORK CITY! Alright, just an advantage for me, but York City finally got out the conference, so now i can play as them! Cons: - Single player difficulty. This has always been a big problem with FIFA games. When i play on semi-pro i start to win 5-0, 7-0 ect, but as soon as i go on professional, i start to lose 1-0, or draw. I played 5 matched or professional, and drew each one 0-0, even though one i played as columbia (4* team) against india (1* team). This is mostly what made me give it a 4*, as opposed to 5. - Set pieces. This is just me, but i cant take a successful corner or freekick. Corners dont achieve anything a free kicks just are either too weak or too powerful. I know there are people who can do it, so i think this is just a personal gripe. - No international tornument to my knowledge, if i'm wrong, please correct me! All in all, a great return to the FIFA franchise for me, and i great game to play the lads (this account is my mums, so if it seems weird saying that from someone called Joanna, that's why).

Why has this never been done before?, 10 Aug 2012
I know there are other films, such as Toy Story and Small Soldiers, but they are completely different films. It's such a basic topic for a film, that works so well, and it amazes me no body has ever done it before! Story: Ted is about a lonely 8 year old (John), who is an outcast and has no friends. One Christmas, he is given a teddy bear by his parents, whom he names teddy (generic name, i know, but in reality, it's what most 8 year old's call a teddy bear). He then wishes for his teddy to come to life, and his wish is granted! The film then moves onto John and Ted grown up. They both live together still, but John has a girlfriend. The story then is basically "it's me, or the Teddy". Well, it's more than that, but I don't want to ruin anything. I really found this film funny. There are some hilarious scenes and dialogue, and the films "villains" are simply hilarious (a dad and his son who are obsessed with Ted). The dad reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite's older brother, and the son the fat kid from Bad Santa. Ted should appeal to anyone who likes family guy, the humor is very similar to it, crude in places, but it can be quite dry and witty. Seth Macfarlane, the creator of family guy, voices Ted, and at times he sounds exactly like Peter Griffin, which is actually joked about. The cast is good, Mark Wahlberg is excellent as the lead role, Seth Macfarlane is a great voice actor for Ted (really, nobody else would of worked) and the girlfriend (Mia Kunis) isn't too bad either. My verdict is that this is a very funny film, you don't have to be a fan of family guy to enjoy, but the film is in very similar taste. The jokes are great, the scenes are great, it's just a really great, funny film. One side not i'd like to add, before i watched it, i heard it was extremely rude, and i'd like to say, it really isn't that vulgar. Sure, it's a bit crude, but it isn't over the top to the point of cringing, or where it is hard to watch! Great film!

One of the scarier zombie films, 6 Aug 2012
I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to zombie films. It is only recently i have begun watching them, but i have seen enough to know that the majority of zombie films try not to be a horror, and more a tacky, cliche ridden gore fest. This film is extremely gory and does contain a few cliches, but it is extremely well done, and it manages to successfully create a tense atmosphere at some points. There are a few cheap scares, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat and keep you prepared! Story: The story is about a group of Norwegian medical students who go on an Easter vacation in the snowy mountains. One of the students decided to trek up there on her own, but when the other students get there, she still hasn't arrived... One night, a strange man visits the students and tells them of an evil that lives in the mountains, Nazis who were driven away by the locals at the end of WW2. This is probably the weakest part of the film, as when the Nazis start to attack, there is nothing explaining why they are actually zombies. They just seem to of somehow turned to zombies whilst living in the mountains. There was a perfect way to explain their origin when one of the students falls into a bunker/hideout, where he could of continued deeper in and maybe discovered some science experiment or something. At least some explanation of why they have turned to the undead. But this is a minor complaint, and easily overlooked. Verdict: I found this film thoroughly entertaining. The gore and death scenes are well over the top, the killing is brutal and the characters likable. Some of the deaths, especially Elronds, (which is inspired by Braindead... there are many other film references) are especially brutal and use great effects! The banter between the students is amusing, and some of the scenes are especially funny (a woman having sexual relations with a man after he has just finished "dropping his kids off at the pool", whilst he is still on the toilet is probably the funniest). All in all, a great film that entertains for an hour and a half! Oh, and the opening scenes choice of music is amusing too!

It's certainly unique, 4 July 2012
This is Dick Valentine's (Lead singer or electric 6, evil cowards) first attempt at a solo album, and i think he does quite a good job. The lyrics are very similair to previous electric six songs, meaning they are quite bizzare and in some cases, relatively meaningless, but very amusing. I would just like to point out that this is an accoustic album, though i do believe there is a synthesizer on one song. I will now go through each song and give my basic thoughts and rating out of 10. Counterattacks (2:03) - The opening song, quite a funny song, guitar and violin sound good, sets the standard for the rest of the album. There are drums too 8/10 Maria Sangriena (1:51) - This song is sung in spanish, and for a song which i dont understand, its pretty good. Dick does sing in English part way through. Look up the translation on the e6 wiki 7/10 One policeman leads to another (2:52) - My second favourite on the album, catchy song, lyrics dont mean much, but its very catchy 9/10 I am repulsed by my daughter's lover (2:59) - One of the very few songs where it is possible to distinguish what the song is about, good song, one of the best 8.5/10 Mr Shadow (2:49) - One of my least favourites, i dont find it as catchy as the others, still an alright song though 6/10 Driving into certain death (59secs) - Bit of a filler song really, slighty pointless, not too bad 5/10 Destroy the children (3:15) - Best track on the album, the one which the album is named after, amazing song, very catchy, great lyrics 10/10 The termite queen (3:11) - Dick sings this song in quite a high voice and its a bit of a bizzare song, not bad 6/10 The earth side of the moon (1:51) - Really good song, pretty catchy lyrics, another good one 8/10 The wild rose of boise (2:45) - I really like this one, i didnt at first but after a few songs i really do like it, catchy song, not sure what its about mind 8/10 Emergency funding for the arts (2:20) - Not that much of a fan, i really like the chorus, the i'm not keen at all on the verse 6.5/10 Fresh faces (2:08) - Another really good song, very catchy 9/10 I don't speak french (2:52) - Very good song, my best line "I don't speak French because it's useless most places in the world" couldnt agree more 9/10 Meet Mr. Monkey (1:22) - Last song of the album, not the best and pretty weird 6/10 All in all, a great album, i would give it more if it was a bit longer but as you have probably noticed, the songs are pretty short, which i suppose is kind of good because it could get a bit droney. Anyway, great debut, I would love to see another! Best songs: Destroy the children, One policeman leads to another, I don't speak French

Very, very average, 5 Jan 2012
I'm a big fan of jack black, but I have to admit, even I was dissapointed by this re-make. It sounds like a brilliant combonation, Jack Black and Gulliver's Travels, surely this can not fail?!? Well it does. Kinda. I think the main problem of this film the they have intended it for younger audiences, but also tried to involve older people, and it just seems to of worked itself into a bit of a mess. Personally, I think they should of made it as a "12" rated film, that way they could of had maybe a few rude-ish jokes, but still been suitable for slightly younger children too. The plot: Basically, Jack Black plays a bit of a failure who is constantly trying to get promoted and impress a girl (TOTALLY original concept...) when this new guy, bit of a douche, comes into the office and pretty much "steals" the girl. Jack Black then goes on a boat trip and goes into a sea storm, only to wake up on a strange island, tied to the ground and surrounded by very little people. He then starts to help all the little people, by fighting off enemies, urinating on fires ect... and also modernising them. When Jack Black starts to modernize the town, thats when the film really starts to suck. It just gets a little bit too ridiculas and stupid, and trust me, i am probably one of the most immature, stupid people on the planet and I found it bad. I mean, robots, what were they thinking? However the films gets a little bit better at the end, and there a few laughs to be had along the way. If it wasen't for Jack Black, and they had of got some other actor, this film would suck so bad, but he manages to save and redeem the film... a bit. Other usually funny actors/comedians include James Cordon, Billy Collony and Cathering Tate, though none of them are particually amusing in this film (i think i just died a little inside, having to say that). Overall, maybe worth a watch if you want to see Jack Black, or something easy going, i'd give it 5/10.

Great bag, 5 Jan 2012
I got this bag in September for the start of school because our school finally converted to blazers, and i thought a rucksack would look a bit stupid with a blazer. The straps are pretty good, i'm 6ft 1 and I think there's still a little bit more strap left. The bag is quite a good size, fits A4 folders in fine, though can get a bit full and hard to zip with a pencil cast and lunch box too. There is one front zip also. I have given four stars because the bag, after about two days, did get scratches very easily, and now after several months, is starting to look scruffy, but it still looks nice, you can only really see the marks up close. Overall, 7/10.

Lives up to the expectations!, 5 Jan 2012
I recieved these for christmas as I have been wanting to try these for ages because I am a massive fan of american foods! I am happy to see they do not dissapoint! This particular size are prefect as you get about 1 serving, but they are only about £1.69 from my closest distributer. It may seem a bit steep for just one serving, but you probably shouldn't eat these every day, say buying them occasionally is a great treat, and the novelty won't wear off! The marshmellows, whilst not soft, are absoloutly freakin' gorgeous, there like extremely sugary balls of hard marshmellows, and they work so well! Unless you have diabetes, i'd advise everyone to try these, they are simply amazing!

Still amazing! *possible minor spoilers*, 5 Jan 2012
I try to avoid stating the obvious, but yes, as many other people were, i was slightly concerned for the new series as Nathan would not be in it, and in many people's eyes, including my own, he was pretty much the star of the show. However, i soon learnt his "replacement" (I use the word loosely as they are individual characters who have similair aspects) was Joseph Gilgun, who plays Woody in "This Is England". I can now confirm that he does an amazing job of filling Nathans boots! Of course all the other characters return, with different powers however, as we know they get different ones from the christmas episode. Some of the powers may seem a bit s**t (Curtis) but the writers do a good job of making the worst of powers interesting! The new character, Rudy, i think has a deeper, better background than Nathan, and I think they are both equally as funny! This series sees the misfits fighting Nazis, zombies, and even past foes! I know there has been complaint about the plot holes in the nazi episode, and yes, it is extremely unlikey that everyone would be born if Nazis had taken over the world, but to be honest i found myself not really caring as I found it amusing enough seeing how all the characters fit in the Nazi world. I think the weakest episode is episode 2, which follows and focuses on Curtis' new power, but i still don't think it is particually bad, just the weakest out of the lot. One of my favourites is where Kelly swaps bodies with somebody in hospital, I won't ruin it for you but it is a suprisingly deep and emotional episode for Misfits. All in all, it is still the same Misfits with the same humour, just with a different character. I would reccommend to people looking for a dark comedy, yet still with a very, very good storyline! One minor critisisim, is it doesn't really explain what happened to Nathan, apart from a very brief referance to him going to Vegas, but it doesn't really explain a great deal about why he went, or when he went (unless i'm missing something?). I would give it 9.5/10!

Brilliant!, 19 Nov 2011
This is my second electric six album (the popular "fire" being my other) and i am in no way dissapointed! I have reciently just got really into the band after getting a bit bored of hip hop and the usual punk rock (the offspring ect) so i was looking for something new a fresh, and i decided to YouTube some bands and ended up on "Gay Bar" which i heard before and remembered how much i enjoyed the band. I then purchased the first album and went online only to find out they were touring the U.K, so i obviously got a ticket, and realised it was their "Zodiac" album so i though might as well get that album too! I'd already heard a few songs on YouTube so i knew what to expect, but there is plenty of others i hadn't which have really pleased me! Here's my quick thoughts on each song: After Hours - A fantastic opening song which really opens the album and sets a good standard. Catchy lyrics and synthesisers (i think) American Cheese - Quite a bizzare song, but very catchy with good sax ect Clusterf**k - One of my top songs on the album, extremely catchy. Countdown to the countdown - Very good song with pretty cool drums and good lyrics Doom and Gloom and Doom and Gloom - Another one of my favourites, watch out for the legendary sax solo, slightly different to previous electric six tracks Jam it in the hole - Literally one of the best songs i have ever heard, and most definately the best on the album! It ain't punk rock - More of a heavier electric six song, another top class song! Love song for myself - What i call "traditional" electric six, very similair to songs from "fire", which is a good thing, because its a good song with some extremely weird but amusing lyrics! The Rubberband Man - A cover of "The Spinners'" song, i haven't heard the original but i love this version! Table and Chairs - Pretty cool guitar with a catchy riff and lyrics Talking Turkey - Brilliant closing song, one of the more serious electric six songs, but very good nonetheless. Overall, not a single bad song (in my opinion) worth it for anyone looking for a different kind of music, or any current electric six fans! SONGS TO LOOK OUT FOR; Clusterf**k, Doom and Gloom and Doom and Gloom, Jam it in the hole, Love song for myself and It ain't punk rock
