The Yuletide Rescue (Love Inspired Suspense)
The Yuletide Rescue (Love Inspired Suspense)

#1 Alaskan Search and Rescue

Dr Bree Mathison is an itinerant doctor in Alaska, spending a month out in out of the way villages at a time. Jeremiah, a pilot and close friend of her late parents, flies her to and from her visits. This flight was to be just like all the others...except Jeremiah has a heart attack.

He manages to land the plane, but the fight for survival has only just started.

Bree needs to get through the night with a storm front moving in.

Fortunately for her Search and Rescue have been deployed. And David Stone is her handsome hero.

It soon becomes clear that the Alaskan wilderness is not the only foe she has.

Who has ransacked Jeremiah's house?

Then hers?

What are they after?

And can she risk losing her heart to her handsome hero, who keeps coming to her rescue, and whose steady presence is a comfort in her life?

I really enjoyed this story set during the Christmas season. I really loved the tree buying and decorating scenes. I also liked that it was set in Alaska (one of my favourite settings for stories) during the Christmas season (a favourite season of mine!) and that the series is focusing Search and Rescue (which is something I also like to read about).

I was very pleased to win a copy of this book from the Soul Inspirationz blog ~ another great book to add to my large Love Inspired Suspense collection!

#2 Alaskan Search and Rescue: To Save Her Child ~ out Feb 2015.

#1 Northern Border Patrol.

A mysterious toxin has appeared in the lake. Fish are washing up dead, and swimmers are having respiratory problems.

Biologist Dr. Tessa Cleary and Border Patrol Agent Jeff Steele team up and take to the lake to discover the source of the problem ~ and discover a whole lot more than they bargained for.

A simple trip around the lake doesn't go as planned as they experience a shoot-out, have to abandon the boat and escape into the wilderness. There begins the trust they need in each other to survive the wilds of the outdoors and the terror chasing them.

I enjoyed this fast-paced, action filled story and I liked how Jeff and Tessa, with the wounds of their pasts, through this experience grew to trust and heal despite all the problems they encountered.

I've read several books that have featured border patrol agents, but they have been in Texas protecting the southern border. It was nice to read a story with the hero protecting the northern border. I'll be looking out for the other books that will be coming in this series.

I was very pleased to win a copy of this book from the Soul Inspirationz blog ~ another great book to add to my large Love Inspired Suspense collection!

Second Opinion (Healing Touch)
Second Opinion (Healing Touch)
by Hannah Alexander
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Medical Drama, 16 Oct. 2013
Nurse Lauren McCaffrey moved to Dogwood Springs to get away from the pressures of her loving family who feel that at 35, she really should be married and settled with a family. She's had enough of them setting her up on blind dates...and it doesn't help that she really does want to be married and have a family, but the guys she likes always seem to love someone else. Maybe she is destined to be single. Maybe she just needs to focus on God and sharing His love to those around her.

Widower Dr. Grant Sheldon has moved to Dogwood Springs in the hopes that the small town will be a place for him and his children to heal, and so that he won't be exposed to the high rush of ER medicine of the big city.

Only, it's not working out quite like that. It seems there is a drug ring targeting the teenagers of the town, who are staying one step ahead of the authorities.

Also, there seems to be a mysterious "flu" type virus travelling the town with a lethal tendency. It becomes a race against time to figure out what's going on and to stop the epidemic. Especially when it seems like one of his nurses might be succumbing to the illness...a nurse with a big heart for her patients, and who has opened his heart to love again.

If you enjoy ER dramas and small town settings, then I highly recommend "Second Opinion". I was drawn into this story from the start and enjoyed the twists and turns in the lives of the ER staff, and also the wider community. There are a few ends that still need tying up, so I'm looking forward to getting "Necessary Measures" - #2 in the Healing Touch Series & seeing what happens next!

A great start to the Healing Touch Series - a winning dramatic and faith filled ER story from Hannah Alexander.

#2 Necessary Measures
#3 Urgent Care

The Unintended Groom (Love Inspired Historical)
The Unintended Groom (Love Inspired Historical)
by Debra Ullrick
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £3.89

4.0 out of 5 stars Christian Historical Romance, 11 July 2013
Abby Bowen is not impressed. Having her dream of marriage and children quashed, she has moved to Colorado to pursue the only other dream she has - opening a dinner theatre. But the mayor and the other committee members aren't sure of a woman leading such a business. They give her an ultimatum: Find a male business partner or they will not give her a license.

To Harrison Kingsley, Abby's advertisement seems perfect. He can help her achieve her dream, and also fulfil the terms of his father's will, which state he needs to open his own business.

Falling in love was not part of the plan!

A nice, faith filled historical romance from new-to-me author Debra Ullrick. I connected with Abby who has had such a huge dream taken away and is struggling with the consequences of that, and yet keeps moving forward, trusting God even though she doesn't understand why; I appreciated Harrison for his letting Abby take the lead in her dream, yet willing to be a supportive business partner and helping her where he could as well as his commitment to right the wrongs his father had done to his home community; and as for those twins, I enjoyed their exuberance and their loving hearts.

Abby siblings have their stories told in:
#1 The Unexpected Bride (Love Inspired Historical)
#2 The Unlikely Wife (Mills & Boon Love Inspired Historical)
#3 Groom Wanted (Love Inspired Historical)

I haven't read these 3, but didn't feel I was missing anything from Abby's story by not having read them.

The Earl has made a vow to his dying friend. The governess of his son has made a vow to his late wife on her deathbed. Their vows seem to run contrary to each other - how can they both fulfil the vows they have made?

Both struggle with feelings of failure & unworthiness.

Both have formed strong, unfavourable opinions of the other, & are now feeling disconcerted as their former opinions are revised.

Both are concerned about the romantic feelings they should not be feeling towards each other!

This story is set against the background of the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon has been captured - now the question is, what is to be done with him so he can't escape to start another war. The Earl wants to do his part in ensuring that Napoleon can't return to do damage a 3rd time. Battle wounds though, enforce him to his home to recuperate. Being a soldier is the only thing he is good at - but Hannah Fletcher, his son's governess & late wife's confidant, is slowly showing him that maybe he's not the failure he's always thought he was & that his home is a place where he can succeed.

I loved the depth of feelings expressed in this story & how the passion was there, bubbling under the surface, but due to the circumstances was not expressed.

I enjoyed getting to meet again characters from The Baron's Governess Bride, as well as meeting new friends. While I really enjoyed reading The Baron's Governess Bride last year, it is this story which has made me want to put the 1st 2 books on my Amazon wish list, and am now hoping that Deborah Hale is writing a story for Leah & Evangeline also!

The Glass Slipper Brides:
#1 The Wedding Season (Love Inspired Historical) - Rebecca's story is in Much Ado About Nuptials, & technically where the story of the school friends who become governesses starts, although as it is in with another story by Louise M. Gouge & shorter than the others in the series, it is not advertised as such.
#2 The Captain's Christmas Family (Mills & Boon Love Inspired Historical) (Glass Slipper Brides - Book 1) - Marian's story.
#3 The Baron's Governess Bride (Mills & Boon Love Inspired Historical) (Glass Slipper Brides - Book 2) - Grace's story.

#3 in the Smoky Mountain Matches series.

Lucian Beaumont is tired of the ladies who are interested in him solely for his wealth & social standing. His own parents had an unhappy marriage, & Lucian has decided that when he marries it will be for duty & for the sole purpose of producing an heir.

That is until he comes to Gatlingburg, Tennessee & meets Megan O'Malley.

Megan is everything his future wife shouldn't be. She's a mountain girl, she loves her family & the simple things of life, an avid romance reader she's looking for a "happily ever after"...& she wants 10 children!

She also has a heart of gold, & is the 1st person to see past the man & look into his heart.

Can Lucian trust God enough to put Him in the centre, & marry for love rather than duty?

A wounded hearted hero, a lovely mountain miss, and a heartwarming romance - a sweet historical and faith filled story by Karen Kirst.

#1 The Reluctant Outlaw (Love Inspired Historical) - Evan & Juliana's story
#2 The Bridal Swap (Mills & Boon Love Inspired Historical) - Josh & Kate's story
#3 The Gift of Family (Mills & Boon Love Inspired Historical) (Cowboys of Eden Valley - Book 1) - Cole & Rachel's story.

You don't have to have read the previous 3 books to enjoy this one, but the characters from the previous stories do play a part in this one, so you'll probably want to read them anyway to find out more about them.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
4.5* - "Scorned Justice" is #3 in "The Men of the Texas Rangers" series, but each book is a separate story & not connected to any of the other titles, so it doesn't matter if you haven't read the others.

Judge Rebecca Morgan has a huge case coming up - a trial of someone high profile in one of the local gangs. She is expecting trouble to target her, but when it does arrive it is far worse than she could have ever imagined.

Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun has arrived at the ranch Rebecca & her brother Thomas co-own for Thomas' birthday. He intends to just be there for Thomas, & then disappear again as he doesn't want to spend too much time with Rebecca - the girl he loved & lost. However, a terrible accident puts Brody's protective instincts on the alert & he determines to stay & protect Rebecca, & put a stop to the menance threatening her & those she loves.

The case is not straightforward though, things are not adding up - Brody can't help but feel he's missing something. Can he also keep his heart intact this time, because all the time he's spending with her is reinforcing how much he loves her - walking away will be even harder this time round.

Fans of Margaret Daley's "Love Inspired Suspense" books will notice a very similiar plot from one of those stories with this one. However, even though I kind of knew where the story was heading, & had a fairly good idea who the mastermind was behind it all, I did still get drawn into the story which was well written & kept my attention throughout.

I've already enjoyed "Saving Hope" & am now looking forward to reading "Shattered Silence" & "Severed Trust".

This Kindle edition was sent to me by the author in the hope that I would review it. However, receiving this copy did not influence my review.

#1 Saving Hope
#2 Shattered Silence: Men of the Texas Rangers Series #2
#4 Severed Trust

Dangerous Allies (Love Inspired Historical)
Dangerous Allies (Love Inspired Historical)
by Renee Ryan
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £3.57

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Romantic Suspense During WW2, 19 April 2013
Wow! I can see why this book won the 2011 The Daphne Du Maurier Award For Excellence In Mystery/Suspense, Inspirational Division. The intrigue level was exceedingly high for most of the book. I found it very engaging - although not at all restful!

Katarina Kerensky is an exiled Russian princess living in Germany. Horrified at what the Nazi's are doing, she is working for the British, getting them the information they require to help protect Britain & to win against the Germans. An excellent actress on stage, she also uses those skills to play the very dangerous game of espionage. That, & also to hide the fact she & her mother have a very dangerous secret.

She trusts no one. Not even God - He let her down years ago when her father was killed at the hands of the Russians.

Then she meets Friedrich Reiter, her contact for the next mission she has been assigned. He is the first person to get through her guard, knock her off balance, get her thinking about God - & prove himself trustworthy of her secrets & her heart.

Jack Anderson has been working undercover in the SS, is now to meet up with the famous actress. Hardened by the persona he has had to take on, & the things he has had to do, he can't afford to let this beautiful contact turn his head & trust her with his heart.

As one thing after another goes wrong, Jack & Katia forge an alliance to beat the enemy - & find not only a love to last a lifetime, but one also for eternity.

Having greatly enjoyed this book, I now have the 2nd of Renee Ryan's WW2 books on my list. Courting the Enemy (Love Inspired Historical) won the 2012 The Daphne Du Maurier Award For Excellence In Mystery/Suspense, Inspirational Division, so am expecting another great read!

The Heiress's Homecoming (Love Inspired Historical)

The mystery & intrigue surrounding Lord Everard's death was cleared up 8 years ago & most of the stipulations of the will have been attended to. Now there's only 1 stipulation left: that his daughter Samantha, now Lady Everard, must marry before her 25th birthday or the bulk of her inheritance will go to charity.

It is a fortnight before Samantha's birthday and she has returned to her childhood home Dallsten Manor for the last time to prepare the annual summer party. The next day will be her 25th birthday. Her heart is heavy as she gets herself ready to say goodbye to her beloved home. Having been courted a lot over the past 8 years since her debut Season, Samantha has had her heart broken a number of times when she finds out she is only being pursued for her fortune. She has decided she has had enough, that she doesn't want to get married just to secure her fortune, & that her father has left far too many edicts in his will that she must follow. Losing the money is almost a relief, even if it does mean she won't have a marriage & children like her beloved cousins do.

Mystery & intrigue are still lurking though. Before coming north, Samantha's London home had been broken into on several occasions and her belongings rifled through. Samantha had hoped that it would stop on her return to Dallsten Manor, but trouble seems to have followed her steps.

William Wentworth, Earl of Kendrick, is Samantha's neighbour. He has never considered marrying again, having lost his wife while she was giving birth to their son James 17 years ago. Until now. The beautiful Lady Everard draws him with her independence, her dark eyes shielding troubled secrets, & trouble that seems to be following her around. Can Will convince her to trust him with her secrets, & her heart?

I loved this action, mystery & faith filled Regency romance, a great conclusion to The Everard Legacy. I'm so glad Samantha ended up with who she did - I'd been hoping for that since book 1! While this book can be read as a standalone, you will probably still want to go back & read the previous 3 to get a better picture of the Everards and their history, & I think that you will appreciate this story more for having read the other 3 first.

"Where was he?"

Lady Imogene Devary is puzzled by the stranger who has appeared at their door the past 3 days wanting to speak with her father. Even more curious is her father's point blank refusal to see the man. As her father won't talk about it, Imogene figures the best way to find out is to meet the man herself & find out from him what it is he wants. Here at the Mayweathers' ball, is a chance for her to find out.

Vaughn Everard is reluctant to involve Lady Imogene in his quest to get answers from her father about his uncle. However, he has no choice as the Marquess is becoming more difficult to pin down, & Lady Imogene stands ready to offer her friendship & help. For so long, he has believed Society's opinion of him being a rake, that he believes redemption is impossible, until a beautiful young lady's faith in him causes him to think otherwise.

I really loved this 3rd book in The Everard Legacy, an action, mystery & faith filled Regency romance, continuing the story from The Captain's Courtship, and clearing up the mysteries surrounding Lord Everard, his death, & the secrets he had kept. It was good to see Vaughn meet his match in Lady Imogene Devary & I appreciated how she believed in him, even when most of Society had given up on him. I also admired her depth & strength of character as circumstances involving her family & the Everards started getting horribly out of control.

The titles & ways of addressing titled people has been well researched throughout this series, although I'm not convinced Lady Imogene would have been referred to as "her ladyship" by her footman, but rather "my lady" as she is the daughter of the household not the lady of house. However, the story itself was so well written that I got caught up with the plot so that they were only mild irritants not major jarrings, & did not detract from the story enough for me to want to drop a star from the rating, & this is actually my favourite story of the series.

While the background of Lord Everard's death, the mystery surrounding it & the terms of the will from books 1 & 2 is provided, you will have a fuller appreciation of the story & all its implications if you read The Rogue's Reform & The Captain's Courtship first.
