Consider the Fork: A History of How We Cook and Eat
Consider the Fork: A History of How We Cook and Eat
by Bee Wilson
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fascinating look at the history of food, 24 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With the focus on the utensils used to cook and eat food throughout the centuries and all over the world, I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in history - by focusing on the things that people have used to cook and eat with, Bee Wilson has managed to focus history through an entirely different lens then we are accustomed to.

Also worth mentioning is that the focus on examining item by item also makes it a good dip-in-and-out book for those with limited time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great summary of all lessons learned running Pixar, 24 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
(just a quick intro - I'm an animator, and so have more than a passing interest in the inner workings of Pixar).

This is a really excellent look at how Ed Catmull has operated Pixar - a peek behind the curtain of the business side of the animation giant, and how they're work to hang on to the creative culture they've fostered, avoid mistakes others have made in the past, and be aware of the mistakes they may subconsciously be making day-to-day. It covers some Pixar history but this is much more focused on the business side of things.

I loved it, and devoured it in one sitting. Most fascinating was Ed's success in taking everything he learned running Pixar and applying it to Disney, with the opening up of creative control for the directors and the commercial successes that have followed (Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph, Bolt, and of course Frozen).

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant version of Sherlock, 19 Sep 2011
This review is from: Sherlock - Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
Freeman and Cumberbatch play the roles of Watson and Holmes brilliantly, the shows are well-written and beautifully shot - a fantastic addition to the body of work surrounding Sherlock Holmes. Roll on the second series!

Dvd ~ Dara O Briain

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great DVD from Dara, 19 Sep 2011
Big fan of Dara O'Briain and this is a fine addition to the shows; there were a few routines that didn't sit so well with me but that's purely a matter of taste, there's more than enough great stuff here to keep you laughing - and good to see the extras from pervious DVDs have been continued. Great stuff.

How to Cheat in Maya 2012: Tools and Techniques for Character Animation
How to Cheat in Maya 2012: Tools and Techniques for Character Animation
by Eric Luhta
Edition: Paperback
Price: 22.60

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for 2012, 19 Sep 2011
This is the first of the How to Cheat in Maya books that I've picked up and I've found it incredibly useful so far; it won't teach you to animate, but if you're looking to improve your workflow and speed in Maya this will certainly help you.

As I said before I don't own any of the previous books, so I don't know how different the 2012 book is compared to, say, 2011 - but would definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a How To Cheat book yet.
