A fantastic novel!, 2 Aug. 2013
I have followed Hancock for a while, and jumped at the chance to read this. I had been interesting in the Mayan and Aztec civilizations as a child and this novel seemed the perfect way to learn more. Hancock's writing lets us picture the situations, scenery and characters with ease, as he describes them so well it feels as if you are there. It is one of a few books I have read where I feel so involved in the story. The novel is surrounded in historical fact, so it is all very believable and engrossing. While the description of the human sacrifices is hard to stomach, it brings the situation to life, and is something I am glad is emphasised in the novel.
Hancock has done extremely well with this fantastic novel, and I am already eagerly awaiting the sequels.
